GRG a/k/a goldenrulegirl - how's the mouth doing? Thursdays is typically leftover night. We still have some shredded bbq beef and the fixings for more salads if we wish. Still have two of the garlic chicken thighs as well. Can steam some cauliflower for a complete meal. OR...if work is anything like I think it may be we'll be hacking up the rest of the French loaf for some comforting French toast. We'll see.

Ok, am I the only one who's stuck on the fact that in a nation of 320 million people it only takes less than 11K copies sold to make the best seller's list? I find that fact much more tragic than anything else discussed here. I have no idea if Kindle editions and audio CDs of the book are counted in grand total the NYT's book sales, but many folks do buy those two things instead of hard copy or paperback editions of books. Good point. I'd love to know the answer to that... ETA - found this: www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/2015-07-19/combined-print-and-e-book-nonfiction/list.htmlFrom the bottom of the page click on "Read a full explanation of our methodology": ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "... Rankings reflect sales reported by vendors offering a wide range of general interest titles. The sales venues for print books include independent book retailers; national, regional and local chains; online and multimedia entertainment retailers; supermarkets, university, gift and discount department stores; and newsstands. E-book rankings reflect sales from leading online vendors of e-books in a variety of popular e-reader formats. E book sales are presently included for all adult categories (fiction, non-fiction and advice) except for graphic novels, and all children's categories with the exception of picture books." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So it would appear electronic forms are included. Don't know about audio books but I can't see that jacking up the numbers a whole lot.

My trainwreck brother left a message on my cell phone that he wants to list me as closest relative on his rental app. I sent him an e-mail asking why he's moving. He wrote back that the owner wants to move back into the house.
While I guess I should be grateful that he asked beforehand I have the gut feeling this isn't going to go well. Technically his two adult sons and my father are his closest relatives; none of them are speaking to him. I also know my brother has been late on his rent in the past. And I doubt his credit score is higher than 500.
I have limited contact with my brother because I hate getting sucked into his drama. But I want to stay in contact with my 16 year old niece. I'm thinking of responding with a return "you can list me as a relative but don't do anything to make me regret doing this".
I'm sure it will hurt his feelings but he needs to know I'll cut him out my life too if I get calls from his creditors.
And just to be clear, this isn't a reference. The only time a LL would contact me would be to try to locate a deadbeat tenant or inform me that my relative died.
What would YOU do? Get your niece's cell phone number and tell you brother that you appreciate the thought, but aren't up to dealing with potential drama. Based on what you've mentioned of his history, I don't think there's a lot he can do to argue against that. No, just no.

Dinner tonight julieann salads Bagged pre-washed spring mix - 1.50 Persian cucumbers - $2 Hearts of palm - $3 Hard boiled eggs - .75c sliced mini sweet peppers - .75c So $8 for three salads or 2.67 a salad. Truth is I'm the only one who eats the hearts of palm so My salad is like $5.50 and the other two are 1.67 each. Guess I'm high maintenance .

Where spiders are concerned, the tiny ones are as venomous as the large ones. If the bite starts spreading red, get to the doctor. I suggest you look up brown recluse bites and black widow bites to see if yours matches. Warn me before saying something like this. Some of those pictures were majorly gross! No, thankfully mine looks nothing like that. Bit isn't spreading either.

Dumb car salesperson: Talking to my boyfriend (now DH) when I was car shopping. He was in school and didn't have any money. I was buying the car. DH came right out and told the guy that he should talk to me because im the one buying the car. He kept talking to DH. No, I didn't buy a car there. I can do you one better. I actually had a jackass tell me I should bring my husband back so we could finish negotiating. Umm, may I speak to your manager... Once I got done ripping them both a new one (and sending a letter to the dealership owner and corporate to boot) I went to another dealership and bought a different car. DH says to this day he's sorry he missed the show.

During lunch today I: 1. Set up cat’s physicals at vet 2. Set up drapery visit in home 3. Faxed declarations page to mortgage company (for the third time) 4. Called insurance company to make inquiry on refund check for primary house policy 5. Paid auto insurance 6. Paid Kohl’s charge 7. Got rental paperwork sorted from house paperwork 8. Set up 2015 tax fileI was impressed until I read this, LOL!
I can't get past the 2nd week of January without having the year's tax file set up. It's not that I'm OCD it's just I can't function. I also don't work outside the house and have no kids.
Yes you are, and that's ok (so am I) . Why the heck do you think I feel like I'm out of control. I'm behind on my 2014 taxes and haven't even started our 2015 taxes. That hard drive crash is still kicking my ass. And, since I'm whining, this quarter is the first time in 1.5 years I finally feel like my department is fully trained and up to speed. Turnover sucks. I need some stability for at least a year or two. (ok back to work now)

Hopefully you're joking.
No offense to the single moms on the thread, but I barely keep my shit together with one and DH doing a lot. I can't imagine going solo and trying to handle two.
Plus, you don't seem the type to be ok with total chaos in her life.

having killed the Wisconsin economy, he is moving on to kill the best school system in the US. jolly good. Wisconsin has some serious challenges- a 7.65% and 7.9% respectively top marginal personal and corporate income tax, not a right to work state, and shitty weather. It's main industries are manufacturing- which is subject to the lagging US and global economies, and the overall long term trends away from domestic manufacturing, crushing environmental regulations, taxes, and of course the job killer of job killers- SCOTUSCare. The fact is, no one is going to start a business in Wisconsin when Texas and Florida offer better weather, lower labor costs, 0% personal and 5.5% corporate tax rates. Wisconsin should end their income tax immediately, and drastically cut spending, and reduce public employee payroll through attrition, and new workers that do come on should be offered defined contribution plans like the private sector. As I'm fond of pointing out- it's going to happen anyway. Why not get and stay ahead of the collapse of the government bubble? www.alec.org/wp-content/uploads/RSPS-FL-15.pdfFlorida has an intangibles tax on certain balance sheet items that is pretty hefty. It makes doing business efficiently difficult at times. The Texas gross margins tax is brutal. It's not a pure income tax but a blended receipts tax. And Texas Franchise tax audits are the stuff of nightmares AND it's a unitary state. You need to consider the overall tax situation, not just the income taxes.

(knocks on wood)
For the most part I wonder where the damn horse shoe is because I've lucked out with DD in so many ways it would seem.
Kiddo is 12. Looks like she's going to get her momma's "attributes" with an athletic figure. She likes to dress modestly and so do her friends. I never get any arguments when clothes shopping. I'm having a hard time keeping DH's head from exploding as it is.
Yea, she sasses us in private but never in public. Her friends are respectful in public as well.
I know we still have a ways to go, but I still have hope for future generations.

Easy Garlic broiled chicken, artichokes, and French bread.
French Bread loaf $1 Bone in Chicken thighs - $1 a pound 5# Artichokes - three jumbo at $1 each. Garlic .25 1 stick of butter - .75c 6 tbs soy sauce. .25c Dried parsley .25c Pepper and a dash of cayenne
Melt butter and mix in soy sauce, parsley and garlic. Pat thighs dry and brush with mixture. Cook on grill until skin is crispy and chicken is cooked through.
We steam our artichokes.
So 10.50 for three dinners and the base for several lunches. The artichokes are an expensive veggie, but sooooo good!

Didn't make it through a whole inch, but I did get through two days worth of mail, finish the Sunday paper, and finish reading two of my financial magazines. Did get through a few things from the pile and didn't add to it.
One of the magazines had a good article on financing college. Dayum - I didn't realize there was a 4% or more origination charge on parent plus loans. DH and I had a sit down with DD (again) about the importance of getting good grades, applying for scholarships, and getting a job and saving for college.
Yea, in one ear and out the other (again). I hope with repetition some of it will stick. Kiddo's 12 so we have some time yet.
That's gotta count for something, right?
Brought some more paperwork to work on during lunch. Will tackle more tonight.

::1. Note I said knowingly initiate. Huge difference bucko. Yes accidents happen and people can get distracted by things beyond their control.:: Really? You've never driven with the radio on? They've proven that to be dangerously distracting as well. Also eating, talking to others in the car, talking on the phone even with bluetooth, and some other things that it seems very doubtful you've never done. Those are all things you would knowingly initiate. I have a hard time believing you, or nearly anyone else, hasn't done some of them while driving in their life. Seriously hoops? By your logic even breathing or scratching an itch would be distracting. I don't use my cell phone at all, even with blue tooth, when driving. Most of the time I have a CD in the player so I'm not switching radio stations cause, yea - that can be distracting. But there are studies which show listening to music while driving can actually improve focus and concentration so if you'd cite your source for your dangerously distracting comment on that I'd appreciate it. Here's mine: www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/06/130606101550.htmMost people are capable of multi-tasking to a certain extent. You can walk and chew gum at the same time, right? I bet if you focus on it you can even talk and pat your head at the same time. If we're in heavy traffic it's not uncommon for the driver to ask passengers to be quiet so they can focus. We take driving pretty seriously in my family. And no, I don't eat when I'm driving - that to me is gross.

I'm completely shocked reading the most recent set of posts. You work with people who verbalize their racism and yet they're nice? Sure many people have negative thoughts for a variety of reasons (not necessarily race) based on another persons appearance but to actually verbalize them? And better yet, in a work setting!? How old are you hickle? I ask simply because I think a timeframe surrounding your life experience and understanding our history would help me better understand some of your perspective, but frankly it comes off as naivety. You need to check in with reality! I am 54 and work in construction. People are racist even if they do not say the word. I don't know where you work or what you do, but I would bet money that a good percentage of your co-workers would be upset if their child were to marry someone of a particular race. Maybe black or maybe some middle easterner or whatever. We live in a racist world, not saying some word or verbalizing it does not make it a better world, just a more covered up world. I am not saying that no one is racist, but I am saying it is almost an impossible standard to not have any prejudice and I think most here who claim that are full of it. Did you think the people bad talking southerners were hateful bigots? Take some guy you think is nice, and imagine him saying something racist, does that one sentence change the other ten thousand things he has said or the way he treats the people he meets or the integrity he shows? Racism is never going to go away because there is some stupid impossible standard that people say they live up to that is almost certainly bullshit, and they act so superior to others who are more honest in their prejudices. So many here want to project themselves as such pure beings, never did anything to put anyone at risk, never thought a pprejudicial thought, it is just bullshit. Do you think the Captain never allowed herself to become distracted whiile driving or to drive when she knew she was too tired but only a half hour from home. According to her she has never done anything that would put someone else at increased risk of injury. Maybe, but it doesn't fit my understanding of human kind. It is the same with people who say they have no racial prejudices at all, and can't even comprehend the idea. 1. Note I said knowingly initiate. Huge difference bucko. Yes accidents happen and people can get distracted by things beyond their control. Pounding down several drinks does not fall under that header in my book. 2. I work downtown and commute from the burbs. My drive home from the train station is 10 minutes. I have stayed in a hotel room downtown, sometimes at my own expense, at least a dozen times over the years when I knew I'd be too tired to drive home when working late. It sucks when I do this cause I don't see my kid at all for over 24 hours. Driving while drowsy is just as dangerous as driving while drunk or texting. We have the stats to prove it. On road trips DH and I spell each other and have stopped early many times when we felt tired. When I drive distances alone, the timing is planned specifically so it will be when I'm most awake. Seriously, what is so hard about this? I'm truly stunned you take operating a machine capable of killing others so lightly. Guess I shouldn't be though, if everyone took it seriously we wouldn't have as many auto fatalities as we do, now would we?

Ouch, OUCH, OUCH!!!
I work over twenty floors above the ground in an office building. Sitting at my desk in my office when I notice my arm (with a suite jacket on) is burning and itching.
Go into the women's room, take off my jacket and I have two red welts spaced unevenly on my arm. Both have a little blood circle in the center.
I have tums, advil, Dayquil, and bandaids in my desk. I'm the unofficial mom nurse for the floor. Guess I'll have to add Benadryl to the list.
AARGH!

Found a quiz to help determine if you're a sociopath.
Take it if you want and post your answers.
1. Are you superficially charming and intelligent? Nope - in fact I'm kinda coarse and as dumb as a rock at times. 2. 2. Do you have delusions or other signs of irrational thinking? No, I'm fine - every one else is irrational. 3. Are you overly nervous, or do you have other neuroses? Why are you looking at me that way? 4. Are you reliable? Yea, can't come up with something smart ass here. Like someone else said, to a fault. 5. Do you tell lies or say insincere things? Have you heard me talk about DH's family? 6. Do you feel remorse or shame? Yep - every time my verbal filters are online. See #5. 7. Is your behavior anti-social for no good reason? I have a perfectly good reason for being anti-social - I like animals more than most people. 8. Do you have poor judgment, and fail to learn from experience? Actually can't be a smart ass here either - I rarely make the same mistake twice. 9. Are you pathologically egocentric, and incapable of love? Groan - no if anything I'm told I'm too self-depreciating. And I love coffee, oh - and wine too. 10. Do you generally lack the ability to react emotionally? I have a robot for an avatar. You figure it out. 11. Do you lack insight? Into people? Yea - I can't figure out what makes some people tick. 12. Are you responsive to others socially? If they go first, yes - it's painful and doesn't come naturally. 13. Are you a crazy party fiend? No. 14. Do you make false suicide threats? Never. See my current tagline. 15. Is your sex life impersonal, trivial or poorly integrated? Nope, in fact my sex life is highly reliant on emotional connections. 16. Have you failed to follow a life plan? No - in fact I have a plan, and a few backups as well.

Bonny Dad's house is owned free and clear. The title has him and sissy on it community property with right of suvivorship I think? We put her on it to make it easier for her to do things for Dad. Yea, I don't go for DIY estate planning, but I do want to know enough to ask good questions.

No guys, we're good on the frEEzer space. Remember the PO I put in a few weeks ago? Bring all you "problems" here...we've got space. I think Carolina may need all the space we have available. Dayum. No, really. Double dayum. Booze, fireworks, bodies rolling down stairs, blood, someone doing the Elin-vs.-Tiger thing with a golf club/tiki torch, cars in the back alley, a drunk locked in the garage...as Dannylion said on another thread (about Carl's family issues), this is weapons-grade drama, times Southern fried family ferociousness plus a dollop of "Holy f*$! we need a scorecard to keep up, Batman!" Comon Nancy, you just need to think strategically. What we need here is a surgical strike. I think one "problem" gone, two at the most - would resolve most major issues. Just think about it.
