I'm just thinking reading that title, hubs and I are the aging parents, LOL! Hard for me to believe. It's hard to believe our parents are aging, too. For some reason, getting close to being 80 is a thing that is making me pause. None of my grandparents made it that long. And if my inlaws aren't moving, you wouldn't think they were close to 80.
I see this from the other side: my middle aged "kids" find it far too scary to be willing to talk about what to do when I die. And while that may be still a few decades away chances are it won't be. Yet, if I try to bring it up they walk off. So that leaves me grappling to find the best/easiest way for them to deal with what will inevitably happen. Aging is not for the weak...

trump left the NY courtroom today, where he had voluntarily showed up to sit through the first day of the trial, complaining that the trial took him ‘off the campaign trail.” Yes, it - you didn’t have to be here? He also complained that he didn’t get a jury trial. Because he didn’t mark the check box on the paper his lawyers filed saying that he wanted a jury trial. Mr Whiner. Well, it was either this or he had to make a deposition in the Michel Cohen lawsuit. This delay was requested by the loser and/or his team. For some reason he seems to be trying to dodge making that deposition. Go figure

The Sacklers need to burn in hell. Every last one of them. I had to Google them but now I say wholeheartedly

On the ABC news APP, which I don't have on this tablet - old, and memory challenged so no link - there is an in-depth article about this situation under "HEALTH". It is quite interesting and it makes me happy I don't live in Idaho.
Note at my age I would possibly make the Guiness book of records if I were to give birth but that is irrelevant to my feelings about this. I am especially disgusted with the reactions of the politicians who sponsored these laws at the end of the article.

Heartbroken. My old undergraduate advisor died this morning. Other than the fact that this man was a tremendous teacher, he was a concentration camp survivor from Auchwitz (complete with his number tattooed on his forearm). The outpouring from his students on Facebook is incredible, the man touched so many lives and inspired so many careers. He will be missed.

Holy shit! When are you moving andi9899 ? You need to be out of there like yesterday.! Girl! That happens all the time. It'll probably happen again before I move out next weekend. Well, at 71 yo (for about one more week) I have experienced this exactly zero times. And I hope it stays that way until my "planned" departure date at 100. You better stay safe. We need you here

anyone else still awake? I'm wide awake watching Las Vegas reruns. I'm more awake now than I was all afternoon. wtf?? Yes, I am but it is only 11pm here and I'm a night owl so no surprise here. That not sleeping thing sucks though. For me tbe only way to get over it is to just sacrifice the next day and skip sleeping all together. Wishing you some peaceful snoozing soon

The big Elvis movie that came out in 2022 is free on amazon with prime. Is it worth my time? I am not really, or rather really not, a Presley fan

has this board been down for awhile? I've been getting the angry bear for a couple hours now. on a day when I'm literally stuck in the house? that's not nice, internet gods and wizards... ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/whip.gif) I got the bear for a while earlier. I was going to say how someone was outside shooting up someone's house and how I'll be glad to move. The bear didn't care. Holy shit! When are you moving andi9899 ? May she rest in peace. And while I agree that she hung around somewhat too long there are others who qualify for that designation and they have decades to do before they reach her age, just saying - age is not the end all in making this determination! The first time I was of age to vote, Nixon was running for a second term. Didn't like Nixon and didn't vote for him. Voted for McGovern. But in his late years as an elder statesman, I respected the job Nixon was doing. There is no reason why senators like Feinstein, McConnell, Sanddrs, etc. can't retire from the Senate (or House) and become elder statesmen and women. They have a lot of political experience and knowledge how things work in Congress and Washington. Their experiences and knowledge can and should be tapped by younger members or Congress. I agree with you but that was not the point I was making. The real point is that only those fit for office should be allowed to serve. Oh, and they need to know the SERVE, they do not RULE even if they do draw up rules

My friend texted me yesterday saying it's her birthday weekend and she has no plans. This tells me that everyone else was busy so she's asking me. I don't want her to not do anything for her birthday, so I agreed to go out with her. I don't really want to the more I think about it. Ugh! This bitch just canceled on me! I didn't even open the text message. I know I didn't want to go, but how shitty is that?! You couldn't find anyone to celebrate your birthday so you ask me, then when someone becomes available you cancel?! Well, at least now I don't have to comb my hair. Block her and be done with her. She is not worth the aggravation. Now you can be nice about it and leave it at that. I would send her a text telling her politely (I really mean that -politely) what I had done and why bug that is just me.

Sitting at a red light coming home I just had a ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/lightbulb.gif) moment. I was on the way back from Costco and, as is so often the case,I had wildly overspend. Granted I now have a number of Xmas presents, my shearling slippers have been replaced and yada, yada, yada. But I had a shopping list! Since I just about always buy extra things when I go there it was not the money spend that that bugged me but the fact that I bother with a shopping list at all. And that is when the ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/lightbulb.gif) moment struck. My list is NOT a shopping list in the traditional sense at all: it is a "do not forget" list and now I am proud to say that every item on that list made it into my shopping cart

I was pretty meh about this government shutdown...let the morons fight and accomplish nothing... But my poor kid! He was going to have his first collaboration meeting with NASA next week for a research project he's working on for them. He was so excited, it's been his dream since kindy to work with them, but he got the official notice today that "yeah, we're probably going to be able to attend". Hopefully it doesn't last long.
I'm sorry. That really stinks.

I have not been on this thread for awhile now. I have been getting rid of things here and there but nothing spectacular. However, as of early last early last week I have been on a hot streak. Last Saturday I disposed if some electronics - here I need to make an appointment for doing that. While there I saw people a!so get rid of o!d paint so when I got home I went rooting through my storage and found at least 8 partially full cans. Also some old household cleaners I no longer want to use as they are too aggressive. Now I have an appointment to drop this stuff off on the 14th.
No hot streak right? But I went into a storage area with boxes that I had not touched since moving in 20 years ago. There were good reasons for that but it is neither here nor there: I was in there and I have been pulling out box after box. Very little of what was in the boxes is in the keep pile. I have made a couple of Goodwill trips and had 3 FB Buy Nothing pickups with more to come this weekend. I even pulled a box today after stripping the bed, running four loads of laundry and getting it all put away. I don't know how long this will keep going but I know myself well enough that once I stop that will be it for quite a while. Good thing my move is still two years or so into the future. 😎
Oh, that storage area? (the smallest of two). It is half empty now

Well, I have been decluttering the last couple of days and found a boat load of coins. Several hundred dollars worth of coins. I rolled them to take them to the bank. Let me tell you, there is a reason they call money filthy! So no rolling around in money for me but I am not adverse to selling gold coins I have two buckets of pennies. We don't use pennies anymore. I don't bother with rolling them, just them in the coin machine at the supermarket, little by little. They're freaking HEAVY! A lot of quarters. Still heavy though and I had started on the rolling a long time ago so I had the cardboard tubes available

I would love to frolic and roll around in gold coins.
Theoretically nice, but probably not very comfortable in reality. I'd like to try first hand to find out. Well, I have been decluttering the last couple of days and found a boat load of coins. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/yeahright.png) You mean to tell me there is a committee on stupid shit? If I am not mistaken all members have to vote on the budget. They are all supposed to be working on whatever is assigned to them. And, if required and justified, spend some time on illegal behavior of those in power. Not on petty HS clique shit. They are not even putting in enough effort to get paid the federal tipped minimum wage.

Because no rich kid in the history of the world has ever used mommy/daddy's address when it suited their interest. JFC. I'd love to pick through every one of these clowns' familial history and see how much nepotism, drug addiction and other bad shit there is. I mean look at the Kennedy and Bush families alone. We could write a novel about the Trump family on here. FFS shut up you bunch of wankers. I am flabbergasted at how many people consider this shit to be Congress doing their job. Meanwhile there is a government shutdown in the making in just four days if these clowns don't get their act together and do the work they are actually hired and paid for.

well, it doesn't matter what the weather is in OCMD this weekend, or what I pack to wear in it. I woke up this am with a 101deg fever and vomiting. nothing would stay down, even water. went out (masked up) and curbside picked up a 2pk of covid tests. well, while I was waiting for it to cure some positive result, I checked my temp again. 102.8 around noon I've basically been sleeping all day and have listed my 3-day festival ticket for resale. 😔 Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well, what a rotten turn of events. Hope you can get some rest, food, meds to get you on the path of healing soon. Hang in there 🤗 As NastyWoman mentioned last week, anyone can order more free tests from the gov again so I just signed up to have some shipped for our family for this fall/winter. I also looked at making an appointment for the vaccine for our family. Our insurance said they’d open up tomorrow so I’ve been checking. The first available appointments are in 3-4 weeks so that’s a bit disappointing as I hoped for something sooner but it’ll have to do. So in one of my aimless musings I am now wondering what will happen with these test orders if there is a government shutdown? Will they just be delayed until Congress is ready to work something out? Or is this more like SS which supposedly will be paid on time? These tests may be pre-funded but someone will have to do the shipping and that costs money too. ETA: my order included the message that shipping would start October 2 - after the potential shutdown date hence my "musings". I am not losing it completely yet.

Most frequent complaint from the far righties on this judge taking apart Trumps company is that it’s suspicious that Trump went 77 years without any lawsuits against him and now suddenly when he’s trying to run for president again all these lawsuits pop up. Sure - so those 4000 some lawsuits he’s been involved in since 1990 didn’t give you some hint about what a crappy business man he is. That's just willful ignorance on their part that could be fixed by a simple google search. Google = deep state out to destroy all that is "good and true" about the orange loser. Don't you know that?

Why do you want to smack her? I am bothered by all this nonsense as well but I am pissed at the so-called news sources who all seem to think the need to outdo the National Enquirer. Real news, especially news without someone's opinion attached to it, is getting hard to come by and that pisses me off. I'm pretty surprised there's not more news of the gov't shut down. I'm finding I have to go to reuters to get any info. Reuters, AP, and at times BBC though they are no quite as good as they used to be, are my main news sources as well. It is sad that people are more interested in paparazzi "news" than actual events that impact people's lives. And the mighty $$$ follows that interest

If I NEVER have to hear another word about Taylor Swift, it will be far too soon. She dominates all the headlines...who she's dating, the game she went to, the special sauce Heinz manufactured just for her, how she brought skorts back, yadda, yadda, yadda. Frankly, at this point, I just want to smack her. Why do you want to smack her? I am bothered by all this nonsense as well but I am pissed at the so-called news sources who all seem to think the need to outdo the National Enquirer. so now I am steaming (like smoke coming out of my ears) on behalf of Mister. So brother is grieving? Sure, I do believe that. But what does he think Mister is doing? He too lost his parents. How dare he expect Mister to put his own grief aside so he can have it easier! Brother is lucky there isn't a sister named NastyWoman in that family. I would tear him a new one ... and keep going if I heard just a single "yes but" from him ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/angry2.png) The self-centered such and so! We can always say you are MY sister, and let you give him hell. Sure. But let's make it aunt since I am old enough to be your mom ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/cool.png) Added bonus: he might think I'll be easier on him with my white hair - he could not be more mistaken. I've left more than my share of macho men quaking in their boots

I swear to God if I have to hear about Travis Kelce one more time today! She's an Eagles. Fan it's all a long con/elaborate revenge plot. 🤣 Am I supposed to understand these posts? I have no clue what the two are talking about. Due to the Eagles reference I suspect it is football related so I don't care to enlighten myself. Just let me know if I am wrong in which case I will call on Google to help me out

... Mister told me yesterday that he called his brother and told him he was handing everything concerning his Dad’s estate over to him. He’d made a spreadsheet of his Dad’s bills and accounts, and how much the bills were, and sent it to his brother. He said his brother was shocked at how much it cost to pay the household bills and for the car. How, when Mister had been telling him all along? He tried to slide it in the conversation that he’d get a checking account (whyyyyy does he not have one?) and give Mister the account info so Mister can pay the bills. Mister said no, you’re on your own, I’m trying to clear up some headspace, I’m not dealing with anything over there. I told Mister his brother’s wife must have paid all the bills when they were married, because Brother does not seem to know how to function as an adult. I knew he was “different”, in the way that very creative or geeky people can be different, and when he had money, it was like a buffer that kept him from having to live in the real world, but good grief. Anyway, I told Mister I felt like he was doing the best thing for himself, giving it all to his brother for him to deal with. Mister has been holding everything together for over a year now, which his brother benefitted from, and it was very stressful for Mister to basically have to take over his Dad’s whole life, so it’s okay for his brother to have his turn now. Especially since it’s his brother that actually needs the house if it can be kept, for him to have somewhere to live, and because of his business space in the back. And since both parents are gone now, Mister doesn’t have to try to protect them or look out for them. The only person that will suffer if his brother doesn’t do what needs to be done and screws everything up, is his brother. His brother tried the excuse again that everything is just so hard because he is grieving, Mister said it was hard on him to handle his parents business this whole time, but he did it. And Brother is just going to have to do it, and grieve later or something. I am proud of him for sticking to his guns during the conversation, I just hope his resolve holds, because I know that’s not the end of it. His brother is going to try to rope him back in and get him to concern himself with all of it again. I’m willing to bet money on that. But since Mister didn’t make the decision out of anger or frustration, or on the spur of the moment, I think he may be done for real, and just ready to free himself and try to move on. so now I am steaming (like smoke coming out of my ears) on behalf of Mister. So brother is grieving? Sure, I do believe that. But what does he think Mister is doing? He too lost his parents. How dare he expect Mister to put his own grief aside so he can have it easier! Moved my grandma's cedar chest into the bedroom. It now holds all my winter shoes. It was a pain for DH to get it out of the basement but I couldn't leave it. Those used to be handed down and the idea of leaving it to be tossed in a dumpster broke my heart. I will have to leave the steamer trunks behind most likely I have no where to keep them which is unfortunate. Unless....I could try to convince DH that two steamer trunks is less space than multiple totes either for winter clothes or my Christmas crap. Hmmm.... I vote storage of Christmas stuff.
