So freezing someone is a big no no but it is ok to cook/boil people (rhetorical question, I am not accusing you of anything in the slightest)? I would think a similar restriction needs be in place for the summer in the hotter parts of the country! They do not disconnect during extremely hot weather here. That is good but do they have specific months during which they do not disconnect? Just because the "current" heatwave is over does not mean that there won't be another one in the season.

So if you are late paying any portion of those utilities, they can disconnect all of them? That sucks. Just doesn't seem right. this may not apply in TN since it's generally warmer than here, but we aren't allowed to have heating fuel completely disconnected for non-payment in the winter. I've gotten the disconnect letters b/c I sometimes forget to pay those bills (aren't on autopay) but never in the winter. Close but not quite. I have been chatting with DB1 and, according to him what my recipe lacked is some kind of herbal mixture he always puts in. One guess what will be in my luggage when I return from vacation come January. I WILL get that perfect goulash soup. Is this it? Easy enough to make at home. Lots of different spices and herbs are added to the broth including the sweet Hungarian paprika (of course) plus caraway seeds, marjoram, dry thyme, parsley, garlic and bay leaves.
www.afamilyfeast.com/beef-goulash-soup/ Thank you weltz. I will most certainly try this recipe but I am trying to recreated a goulash soup we (it was a family vacation) had in Graz, Austria. I am not even sure whether it is that specific recipe or the memory of the taste I am chasing. It is all so long ago -more than half a century. And after I have this it will be on to Klagenfurt and Serbische Bohnensuppe. My youth through soups LOL

My longer than 10 year love affair with Sprouts is over, over, over. They should be honest and just rename themselves to "Who!e Foods Wannabees" we got the prices already.
I passed up all but two items (which I needed for the soup) and went to TJs. Now I am sorry I even bought those two items as TJs was cheaper for each and every fresh veggie/fruit on the shelves.
But be that as it may, it is time to get myself to the kitchen and try out this recipe. I have been looking for a good one for quite a while and the ingredients/proportions look right in this one.

I want to make goulash soup today and have most, but not all ingredients. I knew this yesterday when I was out for another errand but I had forgotten that the weekend is the annual Art and Wine festival. The festival is in our Central Park, across the road from the store. The parking lot looked very full (people circling) so I drove right on past the store. Now I have to go to TJs and Sprouts to get the missing items, but I am so comfy right now... The tribulations I have to go through just to get my soup. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/tongue2.png) Off to the stores it is.

I was just browsing retro candy for DH's birthday. They still sell candy cigarettes on Amazon. They do? Wow. I would have never guessed. I loved them, as a kid. Not for pretending I was smoking. But I liked how they were in a box and I liked the peppermint taste. Ooooh, our candy cigarettes were chocolate. I swear I came by my chocolate addiction the "honest" way

Mister’s friend D is Muslim. But he is a Black Muslim, which I think is a bit different from Muslims from other parts of the world. I feel like I am showing some ignorance by saying that, but with the little knowledge I have, I think it’s true. Anyway, D was not in town when Mister’s Mom was laid to rest because he was in another part of the country providing service for his brethren. He is out of town now, helping tend to the acres of farmland that they have in another state. I knew D years before I even met Mister, and we use to talk about his faith and his beliefs, just because I was curious. I think that the Black Muslims in the US follow Louis Farrakhan’s teachings. Dr. Farrakhan is seen as controversial by many people, but the times I’ve listened to him speak, he was encouraging Black people to own their power and take care of themselves, their families, and their communities. I didn’t have a problem with what I heard. Maybe he’s said some more controversial stuff at other times besides the (admittedly few) times I’ve listened to him, but I haven’t heard any of it with my own ears. I’ve had a close friend that was a Jehovah’s Witness, and I was curious and had conversations about their beliefs too. Whatever my own personal beliefs are, I enjoy having conversations with people whose religion is different from mine, as long as we can have a respectful conversation despite our differences.
What I’ve learned from talking to people of different faiths, is that when you subtract all the nonsense, the bottom line for most major religions, before the extremist kind of shit, is…. Try to be a good, loving person, and take care of your responsibilities. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/yeahthat.gif) but you lose me the moment you try to force your beliefs on me. I will respect you but I expect, no make that demand, that you show me the same respect. And since Rosh Hashanah is about to start any moment now to all our Jewish members L'shana tova

Our state has been very welcoming to immigrants from Muslim countries. However, they're moving out of the city towards our community, and we've got at least 4 Muslim families now living within a city block of me. The women are very nice, but I'm not going to comment on the males, 'cause that'll get me in trouble... ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/zipit.png) We are getting more Muslim businesses nearby too, including the recent opening of a Halal grocery store. It DOES feel like they're taking over. They may not want to join us for a meal, as we do tend to eat stuff like bacon & pulled pork. I did speak to a Muslim male who said all dogs should be eliminated from my neighbourhood...they're haram. Dream on, asshole! (It will happen. Just not yet.) You are running a bit behind. It is at least 15 years ago that we had a big ruckus in a town just south of where I am from. A Muslim father came to the elementary school his 4th grade son attended and demanded that his teacher cover up as "required" (it is NOT in the Koran hence the quotation marks) or else son needed to be moved to a class with a male teacher. There was no 4th grade male teacher so father sued. Fortunately he lost in court. I don't know what the family ended up doing but at least, for the time being, that nonsense was nipped in the bud and until today no one has tried this again though there are far more male elementary school teachers today so who knows what would happen if one is available...

My comeback to that would be if you are charging me $400 to have her husband buried beside her then your ass can go out and put a flag up without me asking. One of the ladies in the office gave me a brochure to give to Mister, for pre planning to be buried there. Ummmm…. No. We should plan things, but it definitely won’t be there. I hope you paid those $400 with a credit card as I believe you have a good case to contest that payment since it was made for services NOT performed!

I have some questions as I start to tie up loose ends in advance of leaving my current employer in the not-so-distant future. hoping nobody minds if I post about them here? doesn't seem worthy of its own thread. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/idunno.gif) I have direct deposit, so I don't often check the ADP site. 1. vacation payout - are payroll taxes taken out on vacation payout upon severance? I just input the three days I need for a long weekend in a couple weeks to head to another music festival, and as of now still have three full weeks of vacation time with nothing else planned through year end. there's also 8 sick days, which I'd lose upon leaving. so those mental health days where I've really just had enough? those will be billed as sick days now. 2. "adjustments" - what does this actually mean? I have a handful of these line items in my ADP ledger, all dated August 9th. various amounts are listed under "gross" and there's nothing under take-home. is this possibly related to stock transactions pertaining to a secondary bonus? the "gross" number isn't small, so I'm a little concerned. Yes. I have always had payroll taxes taken out of my vacation pay. It has been done each of 2 ways. Once all my vacation was dumped into my last paycheck. That meant whatever algorithm they use to calculate taxes assumed I made 2.5x the salary I did, and took out proportionally more taxes. The other way, vacation was sent as a separate check. One thing you might want to check on, if you have not yet given notice is finding out how far in advance your healthcare is covered. One job I had, if you worked one day in the month you were covered for the full month. If your last day was the day earlier, your health insurance stopped then. As a result, I (obviously) set my last day as the first of the month, started my new job a week later and had seamless health insurance. As it turned out, all my other benefits (like vacation) were added the first day too so I scored another 2 days of pay since I was earning 5 weeks/year by then. Your second item I’m clueless about. Maybe call HR? ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/yeahthat.gif) and that is why I retired on December 3rd and not at TG. SS couldn't get my Medicare in place in the over 4 months I gave them so I covered December that way.

same, MPL. I'm on my phone for the night, without a lot of the mod interface buttons, and another mod yanked the more salty posts tonight. idk what was in the water today, it definitely wasn't a full moon. I'm aware that some posters just don't like other posters. and I'm no different. there's a few I'd love to block, but modding. 🤷♀️ I've managed to do my best to scroll on by. I'm sure a few have blocked me, too. but that's why the block option is there. please use it, kids. -chiver mod I see that you removed the posts relating to the contentious issue and I am totally fine with that. without touching on what caused the disagreement I DO want to bring one comment I made back: we are losing members because there is a tendency here to fall over a member's comment if it does not align with the majority opinion, like a pack of hungry wolves. We try to silence that person. I think that it is important to realize that everyone has a right to their own opinion and they should be able to voice that opinion. At least one poster reacted to my comment by saying that she at times has an opinion that she does not bring up because it is easier to avoid having to face the backlash. THINK ABOUT THAT! SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT US! WE ARE THE ONES THAT ARE CHASING POSTERS OUT and that needs to stop. As chiver78 mentions above, if you don't like a poster just block them or scroll past their posts. It really is not that hard. I love this little e-village we have here and it would be sad to loose it just because we feel the need to behave like a high school clique.

Sometimes it pays to have a reasonable memory. About a decade ago I had also let my library card expire and I remembered that little thing called a utility bill needed for address verification. So today Iaalk ingo to the front desk and tell them I want to reactivate my card. I pull out my DL and the bill. Cute young guy behind the counter says he doesn't need the bill so I stick it back in my purse. He goes through umpteen computer screen and then asks, looking up from my DL, is that the same address as on the utility bill? So out comes the bill again with my sure - here it is so you can compare. There must not be a lot of people who let their account go inactive but the last time I showed my face there was in November 2019 to return books and I had not been back when the world shut down in March. Well now he knows something like this is required. And I didn't mind as he was very friendly and cute to boot (sorry for that sexist remark but he WAS very cute)

I feel a bit guilty about posting this since so many are having a hard time at the moment and even my good news is so trivial. But things are looking up here. I just saw the pool has been refilled so the repairman must have been and done his job. I expect that the pool will reopen tomorrow which is great as the weather is glorious - I only partially joke when I say the weather is why I pay those high taxes. Sometime this week there will be people walking over my roof. As disconcerting as it is to hear someone walking above me when I live on the second (top) floor, I like that the HOA is pro-active and has all the roofs inspected before the rainy season starts. I have several lunch dates in the next couple of weeks with people I have not seen for quite a while due to their and my traveling. And, most importantly, all my family (blood and adopted) and most of my friends are healthy and doing well. I would love it if all of my virtual village people here join that group ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/hug.gif) Now off to find my latest electricity bill to reinstate my library card - for some reason they like that better as proof of residency than something like my driver's licence

wow. That's cold... you'd ask our Military to kill unarmed, non-military, barely a threat people. Have you ever looked into the PSTD and mental and emotional trauma that this kind of thing (killing more or less 'innocent' people) has on the people doing the killing? and the toll it takes on them, their families/loved ones? Not to mention the amount of tax payer dollars it takes to help them (sometimes for their life time.) Or perhaps you'd suggest that this duty is something members of the military would need to apply for (because they wanted to do it) - rather than just be ordered to do? And what does that say about someone who would kill more or less innocents? I thought you wanted to hurt the people crossing the border - not our own people. Who said anything about our military? I'm sure we can find some highly trained mercenaries that would sleep like a baby at nite after executing a trespasser. Look at it this way if someone ran after Biden if they couldn't tackle him they would shoot him. Treat every wall jumper that way. If your visa is expired you get shipped back immediately and not allowed back for a few years. Jump a wall death. It may be creul would end alot of this bullshit. That sure is one way to proof "we are the best". Hiring others to do our dirty work for us. How very Whitey of you (and know that this definitely is not aracist comment)

Most people here illegally came by plane. Do know how a wall will prevent that. Really, really tall wall manned by US Space Force. Now we know why Trump wanted them. But, but, but...what about that Jewish Space Laser? Surely those "evil Jews who want to replace the MAGA die hards" will not hesitate to take this Space Force out by playing Space Invaders with your them ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/idunno.gif) Don't ignore the enemy within - you know the not white, not protestant, anti- MAGA crowd!

Did you ever find out why your neighbor was picked up andi9899? Curious mind (aka nosy poster) wants to know and may have missed the relevant update. In other news, and far less urgent than it is for opti, we are now also waiting for some kind of plumbing service. There is a leak in the pump house of our pool and water is leaking into ? (not a clue where) but now the pool is closed until the issue is fixed and the water level has been restored -> it is down by 1.5ft right now so I suspect swimming is not happening until the end of the week. Too bad as it is perfect pool weather with temps around 80°. Still.. I have water so not complaining too loudly

So I have a bit of a weird problem. I live in a 2BR/2bath condo. Both bathrooms are in perfect working order and clean (the bedrooms are irrelevant to my conundrum). This morning they came and painted my front door as part of the complex painting project. Now I have to go to the loo but I need to keep my front door wide open for another three hours. So I feel the need to stay in my living room to prevent anyone from just walking in. But I've GOTTA GO yet I can't, two available bathrooms but I can't go. So if you read in the next couple of hours about an explosion caused by a bathroom emergency in the Bay Area be aware that you have just read about my pitiful demise... I would go to bathroom and if anyone had the nerve to enter my place they would just have to deal with me and my sh## as I come out from bathroom and attack them! But that’s just me. If anyone were to unexpectedly walk in I might just have to post the results on that other thread. You know the one about the airplane turning around ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/rofl.gif) Still I am not risking anyone catching me with ,literally, my pants down.

Thank you. I know you said you will probably be somewhere in my area soon, and if you will be close enough and it works with my work schedule, I am willing to drive to meet you. I don’t remember what part of the country you live in, I know (think) you recently said you grew up in Baltimore, but I don’t think that’s where you live anymore. I have a running list in my mind, of places I want to visit so I can meet some of my friends here, in person. My wish list already includes Washington state, Oregon, California, New York, Massachusetts (I think, but not sure if I have that state right lol), Colorado, Utah, Nebraska or Iowa (I get confused about where one poster actually lives, and there is another that has lived in a couple of the states I’ve mentioned, but I’m not sure what state they live in now), Kansas or Missouri, and even Canada. Ive always wanted to visit all 50 states in the US, the ones where I might be able to meet my Internet friends are priorities though. And just because I didn’t specifically mention the state some people here live in, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to meet them in person. I was just naming the states that immediately came to mind. ETA that I just remembered one of the posters I’d really like to meet lives in Texas. I’m not keen on spending my money in Texas or Florida, but I could be tempted if that’s what I gotta do to meet some of my friends here. And a couple others in Indiana. Imma leave that at that. If you vibe with me here, even if we don’t always agree on things, I’d probably like to meet you IRL. If ever in KS, MO, IA, NE, or OK I would drive to meet you. I fly to TX all the time, so I'd go there. I'm honestly willing to get on a plane and go pretty much anywhere. And I'll meet you in any of the west coast states - driving, flying, who cares. but I do draw the line at Florida and Texas (even though my absolutely wonderful DDIL is from that state).

I know we have been dealing with a lot of deaths lately, particularly of our older relatives. Add me to the list. My ex's mother had a heart attack playing bingo on Wednesday. At the ER, the doctors discovered that her aortic valve had collapsed. She is on a morphine drip and getting weaker and weaker. This is really hard on my children, even if they are in the 40s, because they were extremely close to their grandmother. She's had dementia for the last several years, but my daughter said that when she couldn't remember the relationship, she always introduced her as someone she loved a lot--her sister, her aunt, and so on. Some of the relationships made the caregivers smile at the absurdity, Losing her and my former FIL were one of the harder parts of my divorce. And they always treated me with kindness afterwards even though I asked for the divorce. I met my ex when I was 18, and we were married for almost 25 years so she was a significant part of my life. I have always tried not to intrude unless necessary (my grandkids' birthdays, graduations, etc.) where my ex's family was concerned, but I wanted to say "I love you" and "good-bye" even though she is basically comatose from the morphine. My daughter made that happen when her father and his wife had gone home for the night. I am not sure they would have said no, but I didn't have to ask. I won't go back to the hospital unless asked, but I am at peace with my good-byes. And with her death. We all are, but it is still difficult.

Hoodies in the summer (Carrot) shorts in the winter (my oldest).
They're both goofy.
I just don't understand it. I really wonder about Gen Z sometimes. I don't know. The shorts in winter was something my brothers did as well and my oldest brother predates the boomers (not by much but still...). I don't believe hoodies were a thing until my kids were little but if they had been DB1&2 would have wearing them - a badge of honor if you will to show they were tough

I have mine scheduled. I'll get it on 10/3. I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago. I'm trying to be proactive, since my DGDs started school last week and I'm old with health issues. That's my dad's birthday. It was my dad's birthday too. He would turn 99 if he were still alive

I sure would like to be around in one hundred years to read presidential historians' Best to Worst presidents books. as strange as it might sound, Trump might not be last. we had a string of very bad presidents in the pre and post Civil War Era that will give him a run for his money. but it will certainly be debated. And as scary as it may sound there is nothing to convince me that the Repubs race to the bottom is anywhere near its end,au contraire. The loser may end up only being an "also run" in this race based on all the white washing, excusing, and one upmanship we can see in today's repubican politicians.
