I see a lot of people driving, alone in their cars with masks on. Makes no sense to me. I spoke previously with my wife on this issue when it came up on Facebook. She told me she wears hers in the car when she is headed out from a long shift working at her grocery store job dealing with people who refuse to wear masks nor social distance and is going to stop at the post office on the way home. She says she does it to minimize the handling of the mask. She did add a "fuck the people who feel they need to comment on it" to our conversation. Thanks for explaining, not sure what the attitude is all about. jeeeze...

I am seeing the opposite at my workplace. We are planning to keep everyone telecommuting permanently and close some of our buildings to save on facilities expenses. More than one of my coworkers has stopped talking about retirement now that they can stay home and work without a commute. I agree, the work from home model got a huge boost. Its also better for the environment with less people on the road.

He wants the freedom to say whatever he wants, whenever he wants, but never accepts consequences, and thinks that anyone who disagrees with him should be silenced.
He doesn't even have to do it through gulags. By opening up social media companies for being sued, the effect is that nobody will be critical of anyone with power. Their posts will be deleted, as the social media networks will be afraid of lawsuits. So the only views we'd see online would be ones in praise of those in power.
Kind of like....China. But couldn't people sue Twitter for posts that praise President Trump as easily? There is no easy answer to such a complex situation. Asking or expecting Social Media platforms to adjudicate the truth might just be a can of worms. It seems to be a great idea until the people running the social media platforms are no longer in your camp, the truth is rather subjective and very much open for debate.

Exactly, there are states doing everything in their power to hide these deaths. We are undercounting deaths from COVID, even in states trying to get it right. If you add the expected number of deaths to the official COVID deaths in my state, in April we were still 500 short. It is unbelievable that we are playing politics with peoples lives in a pandemic. Those extra deaths could very well be the result of people not being allowed to have elective procedures, people generally avoiding seeing the doctor, and increased deaths of despair. To assume that most of these deaths are Covid, because you don’t like the president is just as much playing politics. My father delayed getting a suspicious mole on his foot biopsied for six weeks because he had an important presentation and didn’t want to be on crutches for it. He died at 40. Its more likely that covid deaths are going unreported or reported as "other" cause of death as this most definitely has become politicized.

Everybody lies about their height or their weight. It is his sensitivity to criticism and the overall pattern of behavior that is the problem. This isn't even an issue in the universe of issues he has I am 5'11", 195 lbs. I am overweight. ideally, I should be around 175. this is the most I have weighed in 3 years. sheltering has not been kind to me.
on the bright side, I can bench my own weight. did it 5x today, in fact. so, I can't really complain about my fitness.
I hear you. I reluctantly got on the scale this morning. up 7 pounds, clothes are a bit more..snug, possibly they are shrinking.

The province I am in has had a very good response to phase 1 of covid response. We are over the curve and on our way to slowly and methodically getting back to work and school over the coming month.

Actually, our Lowe's has several horse drawn buggies parked outside at any given time. They're Amish. I don't know of a single Non-amish person who has opted to join them, but I know several who have left. They said it sucks. Walmart has a hitching post specifically for the Amish. And yes, you can buy some replacement parts for the buggies. Our trading posts have poles outside where you can hitch your dogsled team while you shop for whale blubber and blankets. Of course, the poles are attached to the wooden sidewalk.

I was trying to find a particular ice cream maker. It's sold out. Supposedly my local Bed, Bath and Beyond has it but they are not open for curbside. The stores were granted permission to reopen Friday night. I heard from another set of stores that they need professional cleaning first. And then they can mark off 6 foot intervals and do the splash shields. Jigsaw puzzles have been grabbed up. I tried to get patio chairs at Target and the ones I want are all gone. I looked in 3 different mid Atlantic states and nothing. Why would stores that have been shut down for an extended period of time need to be professional cleaned prior to opening. Dusted sure, but professionally cleaned? I was wondering why as well. The virus apparently lives for 72 hours approximately, on hard surfaces.

Such nice trumpers. 'Hang Fauci’ Sign Brandished Amid Lockdown Protesters Trump Hailed As ‘Great People’A disturbing sign with the words “Hang Fauci” appeared in a news report about COVID-19 lockdown protesters whom President Donald Trump hailed on Saturday as “great people.” The sign was part of a threatening rhyme reading: “Hang Fauci Hang Gates, Open Up All Our States.” It appeared in a local TV report Thursday on News 12 Long Island about the “Re-Open New York” protest that day in Commack. Article here: ‘Hang Fauci’ Sign Brandished Amid Lockdown Protesters Trump Hailed As ‘Great People’Well then ....just when you think people cannot possibly be any more ridiculous.

Iimagine if trump had been president when polio first arrived.
If a person actually TRIED, they could not screw up as much as trump has and is.

I saw an interview with someone from Colorado (?) that said their numbers changed drastically once they removed all the presumptive Covid cases and the cases where the person who died had Covid but it wasn't the contributing factor to their death. I had read a few weeks ago that there was a suspicion the numbers were being over-reported. Don't remember where I read that, though. It makes sense, kind of. Just curious, how can you have covid but it didn't contribute to your death,?

When Georgia started opening on April 24, there were 22,000+ cases; today it's 33,833. There were 900 deaths; today it's 1405 deaths. Yet every day the governor says the count is going down even though yesterday morning it was at 32,960 and last night at 33,454; four more deaths. When they say the "count is going down", I'm guessing they are talking about "new" cases are on the decline. The total number of people in the state who have been diagnosed at some point with COVID should never go down. People aren't getting undiagnosed as having never had it. No matter how great things might get someday, the count is never going to go down if you're talking total confirmed cases. Its called putting a spin on facts. Obviously the death count is the one that matters.

Truth be told, I am very concerned moving forward. We (west coast Canada) have lightened up a little on or stay at home orders but now Film $$$$ wants to come back with a vengeance and I am in that industry. I don't know how this will be handled but film actors and crew should definitely do the 14 day quarantine. I never thought our political differences would lead to you Americans being a serious threat to us in this way..

Interesting article.
There are a number of factors that have enabled Canada to perform at a higher level than the United States, including more consistent pre-virus funding for public health agencies and a universal health care system. But one of the most important seems to have been a difference in political leadership
The American response has become infected by partisan politics and shot through with federal incompetence. Meanwhile, Canada’s policies have been efficiently implemented with support from leaders across the political spectrum. The comparison is a case study in how a dysfunctional political system can quite literally cost lives.
The Canadian approach has not been perfect. Its death rate is currently much higher than best-in-class performers like Germany and South Korea; Canadian officials have fallen down, in particular, when it comes to long-term senior care and the indigenous population. But given the interdependence between these two large neighboring economies, Canadians are not only vulnerable as a result of their own government’s choices but also because of their southern neighbors’ failures. “The biggest public health threat to Canada right now is importing cases from the United States"

Bush wasn't the brightest, but he had empathy, humility, compassion and an even keel. Not a hotheaded egomaniac!! I was so happy when he was gone. Never thought I’d miss him, but here we are. Every Republican president in my lifetime has been worse than the previous one. It makes me shudder to wonder what they will pull out of their cesspool Right! Who would have thought.

Maybe you should post your source so we can catch up. If you are right, are you willing to have surgery when a surgeon doesn’t wear a mask? Just asking to see how far you are willing to take this idiocy In this day and age, a mask is no longer needed. We have better ways to sanitize. Get up to date! Tell me about this new way to sanitize the air?
