Today is Thing 2's birthday. My baby is 18. She got her nose pierced while I watched. It was weird. We're at a restaurant now waiting to be seated. Happy Birthday to Thing 2!!!! You've done a great job raising your girls Andi.

flutterby, I'm in the dealing with the same things. Bored, not learning, and work for a county agency. From what I have seen over my 20+ years here, employees are encouraged to advance their careers. Your supervisor probably knows that your position is more for a "newbie" and not a "keeper". They won't admit it because then they would loose that position and the chances of opening it back up are nil. Go for the other position without any regrets. You have the office set up for the next person which will make it easier for training. Just let them know that you enjoyed being there and the ability to learn(?) how another department works, but that you are exploring other options so that you can make a difference within your agency. Basically whatever BS you can muster.

NomoreDramaQ1015, have you showed him the budget line by line? What is he ready to give up? I can understand wanting more children, but there comes a time that the average person/family just cannot afford more. Has he thought about signining on at a boys & girls club, to mentor other children? How about helping coach a sport? Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization?

MPL, sorry if this has already been said (I didn't read all the comments). It's carrot's father's decision to involve carrot in the church, it his decision to take care of all the things that that involves.
Let X know that it is his responsibility to see that carrot goes to church (if he wants to), it's the X and his family to make sure there is a celebration, suit, etc. Again if that is what carrot wants.
If carrot wants to participate, fake it. It's only for one day (communion), and he will know that you were there.
I had to stop being the one to pick up the pieces that my X left behind that involved the kids. If they were upset that they didn't get to do what ever their father said they would do, I made sure that I wasn't the bad person. I redirected the disappointment back to the X.
It wasn't easy at first, I hated to constantly see my kids disappointed, but in the end, my kids see who their father really is without my having to say anything negative.

I like the idea of cubic zirconia. Emeralds are brittle- not good for a ring. When I was planning my wedding and looking at everyone's engagement rings on theknot.com, the ones I really loved had color stones in the center. I ended up with an imperial topaz, which is pink. Bonus, although I know you don't want to think about this: now that DH is gone I can still wear it and it's not an obvious engagement ring. (I wear our wedding bands on a platinum chain around my neck.) I've always wanted an emerald ring, not an engagement ring, don't plan on that again, but just a ring.

That's just it, if it was say $250,000 and trying to find a way to save it, then I really don't have too much of a problem, but 1 million for the heirs ETA: that is if all the spouse would have is a small pension/SS.

OP sorry that you and your siblings/grandchild may not have all of your dad's hard earned money. (sarcasm) But have you even looked into/ visited Medicaid run nursing homes? Granted some are better than others, but not my much. They smell of urine, are usually shorthanded, not the cleanest, patients are left sitting all day in wheelchairs in the hallways, etc. If my mother had a million dollars when she had to have 24/7 care, I would have given up that million dollars for her to have been in the nicest places affordable, within reason. Sadly, my parents didn't have a pot to piss in let alone a window to throw it out of and ended up in a Medicaid facility. Granted, it was only a few years old and not as bad as described, but close. You kids sound like a bunch of spoiled brats. I wish your mom the best and I hope that you will do what is right for her and quit being selfish.

Beth, I envision that the angry parents will be throwing their food at the administrators.
That is a lot of 4 yr olds for one teacher. My oldest DD teaches Kindy at a public school and she only has about 18 kids and shares an aide and she says that at times it can be rough.

Dear Tech, thank you for the five gallons of gas that you put in my tank. I didn't I still 1/2 of a tank left from when I filled up before Irma.
Apparently about 25 yrs. ago his house almost burnt down because of gas left in a gas can and it makes him nervous to have gas hanging around.

Not very. The last time we had three in a row was 2004. I don't remember any others.

Bill, it's hard to let go of our past, especially when it was not pleasant. It's taken me years to let go of my childhood. The urge to hurt those that have hurt us is sometimes overwhelming. Especially when the others don't understand that what they did was hurtful, even when you tell them.
My only advice is for her to talk to someone that can help her deal with the hurt and anger. Stand beside her and be as understanding as you can be. Best of luck to the both of you

snapdragon my parents were the same way. I am always cleaning/throwing things out because I don't want my kids to deal with stuff like this. Unfortunately, my kids don't see a problem with hoarding. I'm thinking that they will find out soon enough.

Ok, so I'm done feeling sorry for myself. There are may others that are worse off than I am.
So good news stories. My neighbor to the right of me came over Monday with campfire coffee. It was the best cup of coffee that I've had in years. Plus she brought 2 cups of hot chocolate for the kids.
Then the neighbor to the left of me came over to make sure we were ok. He's a police officer and had been stationed at a fire station for 24 hours. My neighbor across the street came over to see if we needed anything and offered to help with debris removal.
DS's bff and his father and uncle came over the cut up the trees and offered to haul them away. Fortunately the county road department announced that they would provide free debris removal if it was near the road.
Sometimes karma is good. I fostered a dog for a friend, of a friend, of a friend of DD during the storm. Good dog, she just did not like other dogs or cats. So I had to play musical rooms for the dogs.
Now I'm watching a 2 yr old because the daycare is closed and the mother has to work. All in all, life is good. Yes I have some first world problems, but things could be much worse.
I'm very thankful.

This. And though it did not change my life, direct deposit was a real time saver. Direct deposit, online banking, online access to credit cards, online billing and bill payment. So much this. I only right on check a month and it's because my water company will not participate.

Hope you peeps don't mind ........but FML right now. Power came back on after 17 hrs., but now the water is off. First world problems. I'm thankful that damage wise we are fine, but the aftereffects are worse this time around.
Thanks ladies. finally talked to some one from the company. I'm ok just very stressed. I have been through many storms, weather related or not and I will march on, I'm just tired of being the only one that is dependable.

I should have also mention the loss of shingles. I had a leak in my roof in my former house and hail damage to the shingles. My regular insurance replaced the roof. It only cost me my normal deductable. Hope that's true for you! I hope that will be the same for me; I've been sick to my stomach thinking about the expense.

Power was restored here abut 1 hour ago. I've lived in FL all my life, so I've been through all sorts of weather, but nothing like this. Weather wise I was scared shi--less and I've been through rough, back to back weather with a 3 and 8 yr. old by my self. We're fine lots of limbs/debris down. I have a major tree that now needs to be removed and may have damage to my shed. Plus I'm noticed water stains on the ceiling in my bedroom. So now I need to figure out what I need to do with my home owners insurance. I've had the same ins. for 25 yrs and have never filed a claim, so I'm tagging andi9899 and Iggy aka IG for help. Anyone else that has info, please feel free to add your suggestions. Hope all is well with the others that are/have been in the path. I assume you have flood insurance as well? Is it just the roof, or do you have standing water? Do you have a sump pump? No flood ins., no standing water, just trees down and a leak in my BR.
