I won't be on the boards too much today/tonight. But I will check in when I can.

You're on, but only if they get along with my dogs. I really don't mind PT pets as long as they are house broken and love to cuddle. Large dogs are more welcome than ankle bitters.

I don't drive during these storms, but I do love standing in the wind and rain. No lighting please.

So far we're good, but it will be later today until the true trouble starts. We've had some rain and wind, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Dear self, NO, NO, NO. You will not ever, ever again offer to help someone with out knowing the true story, no matter how soft your heart is for our four legged babies. Did you end up with another dog? We're fostering a rescue dog until the storm passes. She's a beautiful very large black Lab. By herself, she's good, but all three dogs in the same room, um no, just no.

Some people. I will admit that I like standing out in the wind and rain, but there is no was I would stay on a boat in bad weather.

I haven't heard from my sisters. One is in St. Pete and the other is near Venice. They both travel a lot so they may not even be in FL, but live about 2-5 miles from the Gulf.

I'm not worried about flooding, just wind damage. My roof is ok, but should be replaced soon, but if the trees/branches damage it, it will be much sooner than later.
Not worried about water (utility provided), since I have enough, gas-I'm good-not going anywhere-food, well my DS eats me out of house and home every week, so that may be a problem. J/K.
I'm only working till noon and will be off until Tuesday, depending on how our area holds out.
Take care everyone who is in the direct path.

It was nuts in town today. People cutting in line at the gas pumps, honking at people in the turning lane, etc. The line at the pumps were crazy on the way to DS's football game.
I came home the same way and there were only a couple of cars there. I stopped at Dollar General and there were two people in the store and the shelves were not bare, unlike yesterday.
It looks like it's going up the east coast, so I'll have rain and wind. I'm not going crazy with buying food, water, etc. I'll wait till Friday to see where they "think" it's going.

No plans to evacuate, I'm watching but have not stocked up yet. I'll hit the store tomorrow for a few things. I have plenty of flashlights, batteries, table top grill, charcoal, and containers to fill with water.
DS's school moved the varsity football game from Friday to Thursday, JV was moved from Thursday to tomorrow. Right now there are no plans to close schools this week. Everything is in waiting mode.

I'm a bout 1 1/4 hours north of Orlando and people are just crazy here. Long gas lines, shelves empty, etc. They are even driving worse than usual.

It was in the high 90s today with cloud cover/rain. but felt much hotter. We been in the high 90s all month with "feels like temps" being in the low 100s. It so humid out that it hurts to breath. But I'm thankful that that my electric bill this month is only $150 and change.

I scored 30lbs of breaded Tyson chicken breast for $15. Now what to do with the 6 bags of 5lbs of breaded chicken in each bag?

MIL raised a kid, shouldn't she already be aware of how it works? My mom admits that it's harder now that she's in her 60's but she raised two kids already, she knew what she was getting into when she signed up to be my babysitter. She said Abby is actually better than my brother. My Mil did not raise my wife, my wife nanny did. Remember my MIL was a widowed when my wife was 2 and had to earn a living in Haiti. And before that she always had my wife nanny/ Maid; my nanny was with them till she left for College (transition from nanny to Maid/helper) and we even considered getting her a visa to come help with Carlie. She worked and hired a nanny to take care of my wife, my MIL only started learning how to cook after the moved to the states with my wife (she had help do that in Haiti) and my wife started to teach her. Haiti social economic standing vs the US are 2 different things: in Haiti my wife and I would have a nanny for Carlie, a cook/Maid, a guy to take care the property and someone that comes by a couple of times a week to wash our clothes. There is a reason a lot of middle class Haitians or above prefer to stay in Haiti; or is a shock to their system to move to the United States and have to do everything yourself. No offense TheHaitian , but I love hearing your stories about the different cultures, but this is too much for me to comprehend. I hope things get easier for all.

dear *some* former classmates, thank you for reminding me why I left my hometown, and didn't keep in touch with many people. I'm glad I was able to make it back to pay my respects to a guy that I couldn't say a bad word about, and to see his sister and mom (who amazingly remembered me and knew my name) but I honestly could have done without the HS bullshit drama that was both uncalled for and completely inappropriate in that setting. so thank you for showing me that my impressions of you in HS were accurate. have a nice life. on the other side of the coin, when I looked over to where all the guys were across the room....to see them all standing there, it really felt like we were all just waiting on J to get there. I don't know what was going on in his head, but I hope he's found his peace. -chiver Some people never grow up past HS,

Dear Self, When your gas gage says that you have 10 miles until you run out, and you say to yourself, "But I only have 5 miles to work and can get gas after work across the street", remember that you have to park at a downward angle. I had to call AAA to bring me gas tonight and it was pouring rain. You hate stopping for gas and going into stores of any kind, so you are going to starve and walking everywhere if you don't stop. Signed, Me, feeling really stupid

My mom never told my sister or me much of anything. We had movies at school and she talked to us about periods. It was sex she never talked about to us. Sister said she asked her when she got home from her honeymoon if she had any questions. Both Sister and BIL still laugh about that. I have never married so I guess I didn't need to know. With my period, my mom only asked me if I wanted pads or tampons. As for sex, it was the night before I married my first husband (I had just turned 18) and the only thing she said was "I hope you don't get pregnant right away". Gee, thanks mom.

I'm waiting to hear from my nephew in Alabama about his children and grandchildren. They live just outside of Houston I Pearland. Last I herd, they were staying, but were doing OK. Prayers for your Pearland family. Heavy rains hitting inner city Houston right now but I think Pearland caught the break in rainfall earlier like we did. Thank you for the information. I think most of the family went to Alabama to my nephew's house, I just haven't heard yet. Best wishes to you.

Shobby gave some wonderful advice. The only things I can add it that you cannot let it take over your life. Do not walk around on egg shells or being afraid that anything you (or whatever life throws his/your way) will upset him. Support is great if he is willing to accept the help, but he must learn to help himself first and not be dependent on the help/support.
Best of luck to the both of you.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one dealing with teens andi9899 and pooks . I feel quilty when I rant about my teens, but it's good to know that I'm not alone. Hang in there, we're so close to getting them into adulthood. I think I should probably print this and tape it everywhere in my house. Is there an exit plan for the 19 year old? I don't have an issue with my kids staying past 18 if they're going to school or something, but they better damn well better be appreciative of the fact. If they're making my life miserable at that point, it's time for them to go. Well, I have to give her credit, she's in nursing school and should have her RN license sometime next fall, and works PT which she will have to cut back her hours even more. It's not so much that she's here, it's more of the fact that she just plops her stuff on the kitchen table to the point that you can't see the top, and the trash can is just a few steps away. She leave the kitchen a mess and doesn't clean up after herself, same with the bathroom. I've quit doing her laundry and you can't hardly open her bedroom door because it's such a mess. It's more that she is constantly gone and spending money, granted it her money, but I can't continue to support her on my own. She does pay her truck payment and insurance, but her leaving me to take care of her dogs, her $100 phone payment, just her phone alone, the 30 minute showers when she's here (I don't have a well, so it's a water utility) and the electricity that she uses (leaves lights on in which ever room she was just in). I feel like I'm being drained financially every month because it's always something. Besides, DS is starting to pick up her bad habits. She really is a great young adult, but I don't know how to get her to understand that she needs to save some of her money for things that come up instead of asking the bank of Mom to help her pay for things that she wasn't expecting.

Thank you, Tennesseer and daisy, for the explanation, I guess I need to broaden my knowledge. When ever we have a need, it's always been the National Guard and I just assumed Army National Guard.

Very easy to use - you can do pretty much whatever you want (of course, that can be both a good and bad thing about it). If you don't understand accounting, the software helps you through some things, but you'll still end up having issues. The most common issues I see when companies use this software is that they will post an expense to a fixed asset - for instance, they post fuel reimbursement expense to "Automobile" but it ends up being the Automobile Fixed Asset account and not the Automobile Expense account. The software doesn't seem to warn them about this, so they end up capitalizing fuel expenses. The reports out of Quickbooks also suck really bad. The indenting of sub-accounts gets really annoying and sometimes the sub account names will not show up very well. Also, if you don't have very powerful computers, the software runs like molasses...especially once you start getting a lot of historical data in the system. Thank you for the information. I've had 4 semesters of different basic accounting classes with my degree, so I have some understanding. Plus our auditor will set up the accounts and will help me learn how to use them. Excel has worked ok, but now that we are dealing with more money (started off with just 50,000 and now is up to $700,000), accounts, and transactions, I'm hoping that this will help.

That is so sad, steff. Those boys need everyone in their lives, not to be torn apart.
