You mean they will actually cut of the mike once the orange paint addict has reached his allotted time? I may just watch one of those partially just to see that! Under normal circumstances I avoid watching these things like the plague- as a non-citizen, and despite speaker Johnson's intuition who just knows differently, I do not vote. I did watch a short piece of a HRC debate with the old fattie but had to switch channels because of fattie's stalking her. That turned my stomach - and this was well before I was forced to accept that so many voters thought he would be their preferred leader.

My dad would kick my ass if I behaved like that towards L. Like actual a 40 year old woman getting my ass beat by my dad like I am a toddler because if I am going to behave like one he'll treat me like one. Same. My uncle has a new GF that I don't like. I am still polite, I just don't fo out of my way to talk to her. If I behaved the way Mister’s kids did, both parents would kick my ass in front of God and everybody. I did not like my dad's GF who was a conceited snot who was overly concerned with status. She was very "nice" to us since xH was upper management but barely tolerated the teachers and social workers. She could not be bothered with my very talented siblings who were not in white collar professions. So to say that I despised her is putting it politely - still I was never less than polite to her. My father chose her after all - I will never understand why he did not see her for what she was. Maybe loneliness after losing mom after a 43 42* year marriage? I don't know and it didn't matter. * they didn't quite make it to 43 years. Mom was only 60yo when she passed and while she was a teen bride , she was 18 not 17 when they married

"Admired global power". What country admires Trump? Russia?
Nope, being a patsy is not the same as being admired. We used to talk about sending the orange paint addict big word books because his actual understanding of words was very limited. Now I do believe that a salary of ~$180k is sufficient for these nitwits to buy their own big word books. We should make that mandatory

Now I'm mad at DH. We're having flash flooding I barely got the car home. I told him he needs to bring them home I'm the truck. It sits higher He's annoyed with me because he doesn't want to leave FIL. I came within an inch of telling him if your dad can't handle being alone for 25 minutes so you can bring the kids home and I don't risk my car then it's time for a nursing home. You stopped two inches too early. You should absolutely have told him that. What about getting his kids home safely has to be his first priority does he not understand? Does he realize your car could have cr*pped out on your way to pick up the kids? And he would have to leave his dad for a double "rescue" mission of both the kids and you? With a big repair bill for your car thrown in for good measure? Damn that man has been around for half a century. A bit of common sense is not too much to expect! I am mad on your behalf. ETA: this is NOT whining. This is righteous anger. Don't confuse the two: whining is irritating but righteous anger can and should be expressed. The hell with the strong woman spiel!

And now I’m mentally fact checking someone who is touting their presentation in Utrecht, Switzerland. Who’s going to tell them they’re flying to the wrong country? Or did Utrecht move? Let me know please because in that case I have to check the rest of the country to make sure I book a ticket to the right place/country when I make my side trip to visit my sibs from Germany. ETA: you are correct about the time zones chiver78

I am going to be a bit out there on cough suppressing. The Ricola herb cough drops don't do anything for me. However, and this is where the weird comes in, sucking on Jolly Rancher hard candy seems to cover my throat with some kind of layer and minimizes coughing. I would be very hesitant to even mention it here had I not told several friends and acquaintances of this over time and they had the same result. Mind you I rarely have an actual cold but the pollen coughing is no less real and annoying.
I don't like those candies but for me at least if the choice is between hacking and candy (+ toothbrush for obvious reasons), candy it is.

Google translate might have done a better job - had it been available. For the reserved table(s) as I mentioned before take a slight left just before the gates of hell Is it wrong that now I kind of wanna see what a mess AI would make of translating the Bible? And how wrong, exactly? Like, am I still allowed at the YM table or am I going to be down with the televangelists? Nah, you will always be welcome. I call this scientific curiosity

No mega-pastors, televangelists or Scientology upper management at our YM table. No snacks for them HP magic will divert them automatically straight into the deepest confines of hell

FWIW, I see the Bible as the direct word of God but written down by humans. Still figuring out if that means it's open to mistakes, each author's interpretation and worldview, or both. LCMS teaches it's exact word of God without error. For me being Christian means believing Jesus died for my sins and rose again. I don't have to do anything but believe that to be saved, but Jesus would want me to love everyone. So appreciate the opportunity for civil discourse as I really am taking it all in now that I've allowed myself to look outside my LCMS bubble. Written down by humans, and then translated from Aramaic/Hebrew/Greek to Latin to English, by translators that…are not necessarily unbiased. A grain of salt is indicated. I’m specifically remembering a passage from a mystery novel, of all things, pointing out that a literal Bible passage translation from the original language used distinctly feminine imagery to describe God-which had been completely obscured/removed in what would probably have been the King James version. Author had a masters in theology; frankly I’d be surprised if it wasn’t true although I haven’t specifically validated it. Even if fictional it illustrates an all too believable politically and socially motivated slant on official translations. I mostly think we should all be nice to each other, don’t be gratuitously mean or petty, and try to give the benefit of the doubt where possible. Not religious though, so I may eventually be at the reserved YM table in hell. I’ll bring snacks Google translate might have done a better job - had it been available. For the reserved table(s) as I mentioned before take a slight left just before the gates of hell

I was raised Catholic and I remember at catechism some of the teachers saying Catholicism is the one true faith. I also saw how cultural/regional religion is, and how could a kid born in China be damned to Hell because they were never exposed to Catholicism, or Christianity. Supposedly (according to my RCIA classes about 15 years ago) you get a free pass if you were never exposed to Christianity as long as you "still live a life that conforms to the ways of the Lord". But, if you were baptized and confirmed a Catholic you have to follow all the other rules as well, so I'm doomed. Hey, so am I but I think that I am in good company. Also, at the beginning of Covid, after the Oktober Fest in Munich was cancelled, I bought up all the tents and everything with it and pitched those tents right outside the gates of hell. So when in in its time you find yourself down there just take a slight left just before the gates and have a good time for all eternity. Nasty people need not apply. There is some HP magic applied that leads them straight through their original destination.

I'd say it's pretty much off the table if you start with a 5. I was FIRE before FIRE had a name, with extreme saving on a relatively modest income to be able to retire early. I knew I could retire in my mid-50s, but even that is on the border (at best) to really qualify as FIRE. FIRE is a lifestyle, and a philosophy. It is not simply a matter of amassing enough to retire before you can collect SS. True. But what I never read about is that this philosophy/lifestyle also means you can be very far behind in your retirement savings and still have enough to retire comfortably. How else do you think I got to where I am starting saving in my 50s as opposed to the more traditional 20s or early 30s? Some things may be harder but on the other hand at age 70 you need to have funds for the next 30 years at best v. the next 60 at age 40.

On Thursday I made a Costco run. They had these sliders on sale and they were only $8. They also were ugly, as in butt ugly, hideous but...they felt really good. What can I say? They are still ghastly but my feet are grateful I overcame my reluctance/disgust and bought them anyway, especially since I replaced my carpet with laminate a few weeks ago. They are strictly indoors only and I'll just not look at my feet while wearing them. But they are U.G.L.Y!!!

I am a proud FIR (financially independent retired). FIRE never was in the cards for me as a late in life divorce left me with very little (though without debt) in my early 50s - hence my "proud" claim

This afternoon I needed my SS card. I thought I knew exactly where it was*. I get the folder out - no luck. So I start going through all the places where it could possibly be but no luck. I did however find stacks of papers that need to be shredded. If I don't burn my shredder out this weekend I may have to chain it to the walls or it may try to escape! I am slowly feeding the beast... * there may be something wrong with my hormone balance. We all know most (though not all) men can't find anything if it jumps up and bites them in the butt. That SS card - there was a little piece of paper clipped to the top of the folder that looked at a quick glance like one of those "take a number" pieces of paper. You guessed it - I was my SS card facing inward. It was in the very first place I looked and it only took me ~ 2 hours to find it

can he rescind it? probably not. but that would be funny. I think that should be a contempt charge. Day off under false pretenses. And we all know he wasn't going to go to poor Barron's graduation anyway. He's not nearly important enough for his sperm donor to bother with. Feel bad for him, honestly. Barron is about to enter the political arena as a Florida delegate to the republican convention so he better get used to his irrelevance being on public display really quickly. By this step I believe his immunity from media scrutiny will also fall by the wayside. Very unfortunate for the kid IMO. news.yahoo.com/barron-trump-step-political-arena-024653206.html

Let it not be said I cannot or will not adapt to reality. I went on a (planned) Costco run. And since it really is warming up significantly and I am not one for depriving myself, I threw a box of It's It mini icecream sandwiches into my shopping cart. Take that oh fickle weather gods! HA!

Anyone remember that at the beginning of the week I said someone had to turn up the heat here as I was cold (wearing a sweater - high that day 62) and I wanted my seasonally appropriate mid seventies back? Well I think the weather gods are technically impaired/morons: it will get up to 86° today with a few degrees warmer tomorrow. Oh well, time to pull out a fan . No I am not. I am just very specific and have "Amazon two day delivery" expectations

So in lighter news I found my mom's diamond earrings. My dad was looking for them for whatever reason. He decided he wants to give them to Gwen or Abby. He was going nuts and asked me if I had gone through her jewelry because they seemed to be missing. My mom had her own system of storing stuff which is . . .interesting to say the least. So I asked if he had checked here, there, this place. He said no. I asked if they were studs or dangly because they might be in different places. I got an itch that I might know where they were so I went over yesterday. I went through mom's stuff and was gong insane trying to find her wedding rings. After a bit I figured out she stored things according to category and sentimentality. Gifts from me, Bob or my dad are in a different container than her day to day stuff. Sure as shit I found them. They were hiding under another pair of earrings. At least we are pretty sure they are them. My dad said he bought them close to 35 years ago so isn't 100% sure. We'd have to take them and have it confirmed they are diamonds. I have a hell of a time telling real from fake but I compared them to my engagement ring and they appear to act like diamonds. He said going through her stuff is hard so he didn't really look as hard as he could have. They just randomly popped into his head and he wanted to find them. I said I get that. The final clean out of the house is going to be fucking brutal for both of us.

RFK Jr. says parasite ate part of his brainRobert F. Kennedy Jr. said doctors told him a parasite ate part of his brain, after experiencing memory loss and brain fog in 2010. The New York Times reviewed a deposition of Kennedy from 2012 that detailed his experience with his symptoms and the dead parasite. The Times reported that Kennedy started dealing with memory loss and mental fogginess in 2010, prompting concerns from a friend that the now-presidential candidate may have had a tumor. Kennedy gave the 2012 deposition during divorce proceedings from his second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy. Kennedy discussed his symptoms in the deposition because he argued his cognitive struggles in relation to the situation had diminished his earning power, according to The Times report. Several doctors who had first concluded Kennedy had a tumor found a dark spot on his brain scans, The Times reported. However, just as he was packing up to have surgery and remove the tumor, he said in the deposition that another doctor called him and told him he believed Kennedy instead had a dead parasite in his brain. The doctor told him he believed the spot on the brain scan “was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died,” Kennedy reportedly said in the deposition. Rest of article here: RFK Jr. says parasite ate part of his brain So that does raise a question, I guess.... "Exactly how much of one's brain being eaten by a worm should be disqualifying for a presidential candidate?" Now obviously the answer will be different for Democrats and Republicans, considering who Republicans have nominated for both this election and various offices in the past, but what about for someone who is essentially neither? You mean to say having brains is a qualifying requirement? How about for eligibility to vote? Or being a Representative? What of those "poor" people who must have been attacked during an alien invasion (looking at MTG, Bobert, and their ilk) assuming they ever had the brains to be eaten to begin with?

In the "be prepared" category I booked my flight to Germany in December on Monday and today I added my medical travel insurance. DS2 and family will only be able to visit for one* week in August so I had to do something.
* they will go to Texas for two weeks but that is totally fair as DDIL's parents can't handle those international trips anymore due to health problems. I can and do and get my additional cuddle time around the holidays.

Going to get bloodwork this morning. Decided to go to the small hospital where the doctor is. It's much less crowded than the big clinic in town. Bloodwork done. I'm walking down the hall to go to my car and notice there is blood running down my arm. So back I go. By then it had stopped bleeding but she wrapped it. That must smell like a hospital because the cats won't come near me. The plebotomist did tell me that yesterday a woman pulled the bandage off in the hall and the blood was spurting. That became a hazardouse clean up. Why would you take the bandage off that soon? The woman didn't want to wear it to work. So she got the wrap instead. While I don't pull off a bandage that fast I do wonder why that woman's blood was "spurting" and not just an itsy bitsy little bit but enough that it warranted a "hazardous clean up"? And then you had to go back today because blood was running down your arm? Seems to me that they have seriously inept plebotomists working at that place!

The AITAH is from Reddit, not FB. I would have trashed everything. He is gaslighting you. And I'm the asshole right now. Because I'm not putting up with BS no more. Ima do me. True but that site has a FB presence which I too see regularly. The examples that make it to FB are wild enough to be quite entertaining
