For the first year in Georgia I thought it was everyone here that was Republican crazy. I had never been asked what church I went to or what religion I was until moving here. It's the 2nd question after "what's your name" here. And then they take a step back with that pearl clutch look when I said "I don't go to church". Here they ask how many guns you have, in Texas it was just assumed you had one. It wasn't part of a "are you an acceptable person for me to talk to" questionaire. Here it's like every conversation with someone new is an interview on if you are a good person by their standards or not. Then Texas took off with all it's massive take over on stupid & religion in politics. I was bitching here about changing the text books before anyone realized it had happened. I watched hourrrrsssss of Wendy Davis. I hear Dan Patrick and all I see is the goofy sports caster for Channel 11 all those years ago. Hated him there too, now he makes my skin crawl. I love the new Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner because I remember him from the city council and all he was trying to do there. I see Joel Olsteen & all I can think is how many concerts I saw in his 'church' and how many times I've been stoned off my ass in there. (it used to be the Summit, a concert venue/Rockets arena) Sure everyone had a gun, but they weren't in your face idiots about it. And if they were, some old man set them straight about not being an idiot with a gun. Sure, I grew up with the death penalty and oddly, for a Democrat, I still believe in it & I'm willing to own that it's my Texas upbringing that set my views on it. But it wasn't crazy, at least I never remember it being crazy like this. It's like the Texas crazy just kept growing until it's fighting Florida hard for that title. I know I'm all over the place with this (late night babbling), but I had to step outside the Liberal bubble to even see that it wasn't like I thought it always was. And I was horrified by what I saw. in case you doubt my seriousness, you have my sympathies. "home" is a strange concept for me, now. i once thought that home is where you lived, and where your family is. but now, i think that home is where you feel comfortable, and where you have people who share your sentiments: where there is a natural empathy and affection between yourself and others in your community. where you feel safe, and understood. i have been vaguely aware that i am not home for a long time, and keenly aware for about a year. I've always felt that Houston was "home". it's where my history is. Growing up, all my 1st, all my teenage memories, married, had my kiddo. It's where my heart is. But I don't necessarily miss it as badly as I did when we first moved here. It's been 16 years now, but Houston is still "home". I realized that for sure recently because I'm going there in 17 days (yes, I have a countdown going) for a concert & all I can think of is I can't wait to get home. I want to cruise around our old stomping grounds, see how much things have changed, eat Whataburger until I bust and wake up to hot Shipley's donuts. lol And see Guns n Roses with my best friend of 30 years of course. and when I get back to Georgia, I can tell everyone bitching about how hot it is here that they don't know hot until they've been to Houston in August. lol

Yeah, it was a joke...mostly. her response wasn't. Late night, stoned deep thoughts. I can't help it. LOL But yes, the idea of Texas seceding hits a spot in my heart that hurts.

Melania sure is a lot easier to listen to than Hillary. Even with the accent! What you listened to was Michelle Obama with an accent. Pitiful. Crooked Trump.

Someone in Donald's way too small campaign staff wrote that speech and put it in Melania's pretty little hand.
Donald didn't marry her for her speech writing ability, or even for her ability to speak English. She looks nice draped on his arm, that's all that's required from her, and she does that really well.
By the way, her lying and saying she wrote the speech isn't the first lie she's told. She said she doesn't have a nanny and raises her son on her own. Except for the household staff and her parents living close by so they can babysit when the hired babysitter isn't available.

don't worry. within a generation, Texas will be a swing state. For the first year in Georgia I thought it was everyone here that was Republican crazy. I had never been asked what church I went to or what religion I was until moving here. It's the 2nd question after "what's your name" here. I live in GA, too. To escape the inquiry about your church, you could visit Savannah.
The first question they ask there is 'what do you drink.' And you can drink it pretty much all over the pretty squares and streets - no laws on open containers. I don't remember anyone even carding me.
Savannah is the party girl, the rest of Georgia is the church choir.

I know she didn't write it. But she lied in telling Matt Lauer she did. One of Trump's plagiarizing, unethical, staff members wrote it though the Trump campaign is denying it is plagiarized too. So everyone, family and staff, are all blatant liars. Who'da thought.

I will say I feel sorry for Melania Trump. The most important address to the nation Melania Trump will ever give in her life, whether it is as a future First Lady or as the wife of a runner up candidate for the presidency, will always be remembered as a partially plagiarized speech first given by the current First Lady.
Not something one would like to be remembered by in history.

to quote billary 'what difference does it make now?' the correct quote is: "what difference, at this point, does it make? it is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again" it was actually a pretty good response- widely misquoted, and rarely put in context.

to quote billary 'what difference does it make now?' The Trumps aren't even elected yet and they are already stealing from the White House. That's the difference.

Yes, I heard they have aps now that you can run something like that through to check for plagiarism. She might have heard the other and thought it sounded good, maybe she didn't even know about plagiarism, who knows.
They said trump is doing all this on a shoestring so who knows. Chances that Melania Trump didn't plagiarize Michelle Obama? Less than 1 in a trillionIt looks pretty safe to rule out any chance that Melania Trump's plagiarism of Michelle Obama's convention speech was an accident. Despite some defending Melania Trump for lifting words "coincidentally," the Washingtonian used Turnitin.com to find that "the likelihood that a 16-word match," such as that between the two speeches, is "'just a coincidence' is less than 1 in a trillion." The longest match between the two speeches is 23 words:. @mikehearn put Melania and Michelle’s convention speeches side-by-side pic.twitter.com/nFknidrWTf — BuzzFeed News (@buzzfeednews) July 19, 2016 Nevertheless, Trump's campaign manager Paul Manafort proposed that the similarities between the speeches are indeed that one-in-1-trillion chance. "These are common words," he argued. Chances that Melania Trump didn't plagiarize Michelle Obama? Less than 1 in a trillion. I am not sure Melania wrote her own speech. But whoever wrote it, plagarized portions of it.

No comment on CNN and ABC announcing the speech writers did not serve up the speech that was delivered? The speech that was written was approved and did not contain the Michelle quotes that were plagarized. No wonder Trump's manager stood by the speech this morning and said it did not occur, because it was not written in the approved speech. This could be backed up by a certain poster who claims a tree falling in the forest makes no noise if no one is there to hear it fall. Evidently, if it was not in the approved speech, it did not happen. But seriously, if the approved speech did not contain it, can you imagine when the speech writer heard the speech, he had a cardiac moment. Who called who first? The speech writer call Manafort and say what the heck is going on? Manafort called the speech writer and say what the heck did you just do? Now it begs the question. Did Melania go rogue, and re-write the speech after all? Or did Hillary's crack internet team break in to the RNC computers and do a re-write on the speech, which Trump could never admit it happened, because he is the security guy attacking Hillary on the e-mails scandal? The perfect crime was just committed!

I think you're watching too much of the convention, VB. You mind seems to be getting fried with your scenarios above.

And here we thought Trump was only hiring the best people, the greatest speech writers, the yuuugest plagiarizers.

In the wake of what has happened since he made this statement I would love to see this one come back and bite him big time! But alas this country seems to have a very bad case of short term memory syndrome. I would have no problem poking the Clinton campaign to use that quote again, and again, and again over the next 3 1/2 months in their TV ads. Apparently directly from your lips to Hillary's ears. LOL The next morning and almost every morning since there has been an ad using this quote against him.
