Our local news just had a spot with a radio personality who is in Cleveland covering the convention, and he claims he ran into Kasich in a rest room! He says he asked the governor why he was there, since it was all over the news that he wasn't attending. Again, according to him, the Governor replied " I don't know why. I'm here." The governor is probably in Cleveland in case something bad goes down during the convention and he needs to make on-site decisions.

I saw somewhere this morning Kasich would be around, but not on the convention floor. He is probably orchestrating the Never Trump movement. I understand they dissed the state delegates and moved them towards the back, along an aisle to punish Kasich

In MSN Morning Joe this AM Joe and Mika were in Cleveland with a group of (I assume) Clevelanders sitting behind them.
When they asked the audience to applaud if they would vote for Trump, only one guy did. When asked if anyone would vote for Hillary, a smattering of people applauded.
I still can't figure out how these two made it to the tops of their respective tickets. (Well, I can with Hillary, because so few democrats came out against her in the primary. But Trump?)
The biggest crowd reaction came when Trump's campaign manager was being interviewed and, when asked why there were so few GOP big names speaking at the convention, including Kaisch (gov of Ohio), the campaign manager stated that Kaisch 'would be sorry' that he failed to come out in support of Trump. This inspired a round of booing from the audience.
Not a lot of love in Cleveland this AM LOL.
A live broadcast from a democratic bar in the heart of the city, where the bar has advertised about Joe and Mika coming today. The better question is, are there any local Republicans in the audience, and please raise your hand. If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there, does it make any noise?
Of course it does, but if you are not there, you would not know it fell. No, I don't think so. Noise is sound waves, and is interpreted by our ears and brains as noise. If there's absolutely no one and no thing around to hear it, there's no sound.

The inner ear consists of the cochlea, the auditory (hearing) nerve and the brain Sound waves enter the ear canal and make the ear drum vibrate. This action moves the tiny chain of bones (ossicles – malleus, incus, stapes) in the middle ear. The last bone in this chain ‘knocks’ on the membrane window of the cochlea and makes the fluid in the cochlea move. The fluid movement then triggers a response in the hearing nerve. www.hearinglink.org/your-hearing/how-the-ear-works/

It's something that's been pondered for a very, very long time, but naturally, VB has the answer. "Of course it does!"

Why don't you explain to the class how you came to your conclusion that "Of course it makes a sound!" I already explained why I think it doesn't. It emits sound waves, which are basically vibrations. You need an ear for it to be translated into noise.

Where do you get "43%" and "47%"? The first graphic in your link shows Clinton leading Trump 47% to 43%. I then assumed that since your graphs are marked "Reason for **** Support" that each one only includes that particular candidate's supporters. Ahhh... gotcha. Fair enough. However, other polls for candidate support don't bear out that number (that's why I didn't remember it from the link... I knew it wasn't representative). RCP has the AVERAGE, of numerous polls, at 43.8 (Clinton) and 40.6 (Trump)... SOURCE
Making the math work out to 14.454% (Clinton voter hates Trump) and 14.616% (Trump voter hates Clinton) giving Trump the actual lead.

I understand they dissed the state delegates and moved them towards the back, along an aisle to punish Kasich Why did the Colorado and Iowa delegates walk out in protest? Unfortunately, I was out and about this afternoon. Not totally sure. Colorado wanted an actual physical count state by state, of whether delegates could be released to vote against Trump, and they said they had enough states to require a real vote. RNC said two states backed out leaving them a state short, so a voice vote is legal. Iowa, I am not sure if it was the same thing. Cruz delegates did win and are able to enter Cruz into the nomination for the Prersidency.

If there's absolutely no one and no thing around to hear it, there's no sound. Ever hear of the Big Bang? They say that was a heck of an explosion, with sound waves pushing things millions, trillions of miles outward and still going today, in it's wake. I guess since humans were not there, it did not make any noise.

If there's absolutely no one and no thing around to hear it, there's no sound. The real answer, of course, is "it depends." How are you defining "sound?" There are two ways. One is from physics, in which sound is defined as the vibrations through a medium which can then be perceived. The other is from physiology, in which those vibrations must be received and perceived. So, take your pick on which you prefer, and then answer, "It depends."

If there was no atmosphere in existence, then no "waves" would spread anywhere and there would thus be no sound by either definition.

Wire up a transducer to a wave source (an MP3 player should suffice) and then press that transducer DIRECTLY against your skin near your ear (right behind your earlobe works best) There's no travel of waves through atmosphere... yet... you can still clearly "hear" the music. (did that experiment in Science class many years ago... didn't use an MP3 player though... used a "Walkman" back then) Basically put, ANY "medium" can suffice for the travel of sound waves. and right after the Big Bang, there was PLENTY of "medium" for the waves to travel through.

Cleveland, like most cities, is pretty liberal. it represents Ohio about as well as Houston represents Texas. see this is why I had no clue just how fucked up Texas politics were until I moved out of Houston. I grew up in basically a Liberal bubble in the middle of a hard core red state. I remember Ann Richards as our Gov'n. good times! Left Houston and went OMG, Texas is fucking nutso! WTF? Houston had a gay part of town before I remember anyone even coming out, we had a gay mayor long before the last gay mayor, we had lots of Democrat mayors & councilmen/women, hell we had Barbara Jordan for goodness sakes! I was so clueless until I left Houston, makes it very hard to be proud to be Texan now.

For the first year in Georgia I thought it was everyone here that was Republican crazy. I had never been asked what church I went to or what religion I was until moving here. It's the 2nd question after "what's your name" here. And then they take a step back with that pearl clutch look when I said "I don't go to church". Here they ask how many guns you have, in Texas it was just assumed you had one. It wasn't part of a "are you an acceptable person for me to talk to" questionaire. Here it's like every conversation with someone new is an interview on if you are a good person by their standards or not. Then Texas took off with all it's massive take over on stupid & religion in politics. I was bitching here about changing the text books before anyone realized it had happened. I watched hourrrrsssss of Wendy Davis. I hear Dan Patrick and all I see is the goofy sports caster for Channel 11 all those years ago. Hated him there too, now he makes my skin crawl. I love the new Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner because I remember him from the city council and all he was trying to do there. I see Joel Olsteen & all I can think is how many concerts I saw in his 'church' and how many times I've been stoned off my ass in there. (it used to be the Summit, a concert venue/Rockets arena) Sure everyone had a gun, but they weren't in your face idiots about it. And if they were, some old man set them straight about not being an idiot with a gun. Sure, I grew up with the death penalty and oddly, for a Democrat, I still believe in it & I'm willing to own that it's my Texas upbringing that set my views on it. But it wasn't crazy, at least I never remember it being crazy like this. It's like the Texas crazy just kept growing until it's fighting Florida hard for that title. I know I'm all over the place with this (late night babbling), but I had to step outside the Liberal bubble to even see that it wasn't like I thought it always was. And I was horrified by what I saw.

This isn't going to come out right but I'll say it anyway, I'd rather see Texas brought to heel rather than secede. My Texas ancestry goes back to it being a Spanish territory, we were missionaries. I have ancestors whose names are on the Battle of San Jacinto monument. I don't want to lose all that & there's NO way I could support Texas seceding. It would be like cutting a part of me out. They are crazy right now, but I have hopes it can be fixed, instead of cut out.

"home" is a strange concept for me, now. i once thought that home is where you lived, and where your family is. but now, i think that home is where you feel comfortable, and where you have people who share your sentiments: where there is a natural empathy and affection between yourself and others in your community. where you feel safe, and understood. i have been vaguely aware that i am not home for a long time, and keenly aware for about a year.
