I have actually written opinions that are completely in line with what others think who usually oppose me. Opinions that are the POLAR opposite of what I REALLY think. And, even still, the same type of thing will ensue because a poster is labeled as left wing or right wing and everything flows from that.

I'm glad I read Shooby's posts before she deleted them. However, it will now make me wonder if the sensible posts on YM and EE are really just playing with us and not what she really thinks.

"Shooby you have cultivated that relationship with folks for years now. No trying to turn it around now. "
This just PROVES my point. I am trying to have a general discussion about this topic. But, then some here have to bring it to the personal level and try to impugn me or someone else. Uh huh.

Why would I delete my posts? There are there to read if you chose too. As for you, think whatever you wish.

It is like twerking.
Miley Cyrus twerked her little ass everywhere and it was ok. Dame Helen Mirren twerked. But, suddenly, Taylor Swift is villified.
People are nuts.

I've noticed this, too. Just a guess, here, but I think that more and more people are discovering that no matter what they do or what they have or what they have accomplished, they just aren't happy. And when one isn't happy, they aren't fun to be around. They keep reaching for whatever is out of their grasp, thinking that it will be the answer to their happiness, and it's not working. Then, there are some of us who are getting on in age and resent our bodies betraying us. This, if not kept in check, can make for some nasty acting seniors.

Miley was only vilified for twerking so close to Robin's crotch, I think. And she wasnt called racist.
Miley got a lot more criticism for her tongue hanging out.
Dame Helen twerked in a very ladylike, British manner. I will try to remember where I saw it. Youtube, maybe?

Oops, I know what happened now.
I thought posts had disappeared but it was the difference between reading the thread logged in and not logged in. Blocking posters can save you time and sanity but can be confusing if you forget who you blocked.
Nevermind...

I get what Shooby is saying. People seem to be too quick to lash out at anything that doesn't fall within their line of thinking. I'm looking within myself right now, thinking, "Do I do that?"

FWIW, the messenger should not and cannot be fully divested from the message. Like it or not, the messenger is part of the message's presentation.
Its not just the 90% of communication is non-verbal, but that is definitely part of it. Two people, three actors can say the same line and it could mean 5 different things or just one or two ...
While the messenger usually isn't the message, sometimes, like funeral attendance for heads of state - it can be a big part of it. ( President attends, Vice President attends or low level flunky attends. Usually considered to be a bigger part of the "message" than the US showed up or the President's administration showed up.)

Most of us have been around together for a long time.... We can only discuss the same 3 points so many times. We like to poke eachother. We like to try and out duel eachother. We like to bait eachother. We like to argue.

I personally don't like being poked nor do I like to see people being ganged up on, for any reason. Maybe I need to lighten up?

I think it depends on the situation. My clients can be very busy and stressed out when they need my services, and as one of them told me, getting a mortgage is like going to the proctologist. So I chalk a lot of ugliness up to people running on empty and just trying to get through their day. That's run of the mill ugliness. People who are habitually awful I have to agree with mental illness and my money is on npd. Sent from my ADR6410LVW using proboards What?
If someone is an ass it has to be a mental illness and not a personal choice?
I stand by my assertion. People make way too many assumptions about what mental illness is and is not.
How dare I question opti-the self proclaimed expert on all things of mental illness. Indeed. Sent from my ADR6410LVW using proboards

I think that there are some people who are so unhappy with their lives at that particular moment (or in all moments) that they strive to make those around them just as unhappy. I don't imagine there are many of us who have not been guilty of that at one point or another. I don't think it has anything to do with mental illness. Some people are just plain mean and derive pleasure from hurting others.

I grew up being poked at, so naturally I lashed out when I saw it happening to me or another poster. The board has helped me develop an understanding and thick skin to it. I do think, however, that some of us need to be more sensitive to those new members who may have thin skins.
