I can tell you right now that if my DH cheats on me there will be a divorce.
ETA: I will consider it a lesson in self-respect.

Karma for Nancy as soon as I can I don't think any parent is going to not smack a kid reaching for something hot or otherwise about to harm themselves, but to beat a child daily is just stupid and beyond any common sense/loving relationship. Every parent that says they'll never spank, even just to swat a hand away from something hot, isn't very far into their parenting days.

Archie, you have lots of fun ahead No one is perfect and a few swats here and there won't damage a kid for life, I bet you had a few of your own as a kid. I wish nothing but peaceful things for you, but don't hold your breath. lol

ERIOUSLY?!?! You honestly believe that those kids would be better off living under the same roof with two parents who cannot stand each other Read more: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fun&action=display&thread=1959&page=1#ixzz1BamJeEOz Total Cop Out. Sorry. Life is not just about your personal happiness. These kids are pull apart and it is obvious the divorce has had a severe impact on them. They should lay down their petty childish behaviors, act like adults and work on their marriage and take responsibility to raise these children by raising them together. Living with an attention whore mom and having a passive aggressive dad probably affects them too. I saw an interview where Kate said she does what she does because the kids love to see her on TV. Bullshit. Kate likes to see Kate on TV.

It depends. I hope to never spank DD but if her safety is in question I will do whatever it takes, even if it is a swat on the butt. I don't have time to reverse psychology when she is running towards the street.
That being said I am not going to be WCP and use threats of a wooden spoon to keep my child in line.

Are you my brother, Archie? My mom did the exact same thing. A swat on the bum with "the spoon" when we were acting up/fighting wasn't unusual. It didn't take long before just the sound of the kitchen drawer opening would make us settle down and behave.

My family (mom, dad, aunts, whoever) was fond of making you go pick your own switch.

With my mom it was the wire handle of the flyswatter. Only got it once or twice, that was enough

The flyswatter was another handy tool. The switch only had to be used once or twice and you learned quick. My aunt gave me the switch she'd had since she used it on us to use as a threat on my kids.

OMG! I saw that one too. The Mom said she fell in love with the kids twin brother, so she took him too because she felt like she"had" to. My favorite part of the episode was when Dr Phil's wife pointed out that she punishes the boy for lying because "they don't lie in their family" but Mom has lied to him every day that he's been with them because she promised him that he would have a loving home. I think that one got through to her.

The one I think I never want to do is spank my daughter out of anger.
If I can follow that rule, then I should be able to come up with alternative punishments. Only time will tell.

Sa-woon again. But in a good way. J and I must be related. Same set-up in my family. And if we are related, he cannot spank me. Aw, shucks.

So parents should be absolutely miserable just so they don't get divorced??? I'm a product of divorce and trust me, kids would rather happy parents that live apart then living with two people that hate one another. Only an idiot would think that a child wouldn't pick up on the fact that their parents hate one another....sorry, I woudl rather teach my children to honor and respect themselves, then to stay in an unhealthy marriage.
