I have never found nights to be creepy. Quite the contrary, I find them to be peaceful and soothing.
Ok, confession time! What is the worst party you've ever thrown and why?

I've done cilantro! I usually have a salsa garden. News flash: salsa is vegetables -- ALL vegetables!!! And you can put salsa on lots of things besides tortilla chips -- scrambled eggs, chicken, salad, etc. -- and use it as a dip for celery which is naturally built to scoop salsa into the mouth. Ohhh, minnesotapaintlady - this reminds me - did you know salsa is fantastic on top of baked potatoes? Potatoes are actually a good food nutrition wise but they get a bad rap because of what most folks put on them. Skip the butter or sour cream and load up on salsa!!! Soooo good!

A co-worker was talking to me about how expensive daycare is and how it was hard to make ends meet. I said tell me about it, I'll be paying about $800/week. She said oh wow, that's like a mortgage. And, I said- no a week, not a month, it's more like $3500/month. That's the equivalent of a monthly payment for a $750,000 mortgage. She was stunned. It turns out she was struggling with her $80/week bill. Granted, I have a higher paid position and she commutes from a lower COL area where daycare is less expensive. But, it's almost one of those things where it doesn't matter how cheap it is, it will always be too expensive. Holy Crap!!! How many kids do you have?!? Infant Daycare (12+ years ago) was I think around $275 a week. You provide your own formula and diaper/supplies. The cheapest it ever got was IIRC $185 a week for before and after school care. DH and I knew before DD was born how much daycare was so for us it was just part of the budget. That was also our college savings plan (in addition to what we were already putting away) every time the daycare cost went down we just put the difference into savings for college. We didn't have those dollars to spend before so we didn't miss them.

I would be willing to have government social engineer society to pay for child care at the same time we give government the power to choose who should have children and how many they can have.
That's kind of the gist of my argument. As a society, who are we encouraging to reproduce, and who are we discouraging? Don't we want to encourage people who are responsible and have careers to have children? By the way things are structured, I'd say we don't. I understand what you are saying and am to a limited extent probably influenced by it. DH and I have 5 advanced degrees between us. Yet we stopped at one child, for a lot of reasons honestly, but not last among them is the fact that we wanted to make sure DD could attend college and graduate without crippling debt. We'll have enough saved for her, but would have been hard pressed (even with our good salaries) to do it for two or more. When DD was in daycare (that we fully paid for) you could tell who was state subsidized and who wasn't. The state subsidized have 2-4 siblings usually all pretty close to each other in age with a single parent dropping off and picking up (schedules tend to be pretty regular). The full pays usually were only children, or at most two. Yea, it really pissed me off when I heard someone bitching about having to come up with a $25/week co-pay each for three kids because who can afford that?!? (We were paying over $200 per week for DD). Over 60% of the kids at DD's daycare were state subsidized. At the time DD was in daycare there was no caps or waiting lists in IL, it was all income based. AND we were not in a particularly poor area. So the folks who can't provide for their first child are subsidized heavily and really have limited reasons to stop at one or two. I just don't think raising the bar on subsidizing other's choices is the right answer either. Because ultimately someone will have to pay and I pay enough in taxes as it is.

Once you use their spices there's no going back. The freshness and quality is unsurpassed IMHO. To some = sorry, others = you're welcome!

My DH is going to hate you Captain. Why? I'm only trying to help? I take it he doesn't like curry flavor? Did you know a little curry in split pea soup takes it to a whole nuther lever?

Meant to add - Penzeys does a good job of highlighting their spices in the recipies on their website. Read some of them and you should start to get a sense of what seasoning pairs with different foods.
The publish a killer catalogue that's highly addictive.

She has absolutely horrible choice in men:
Leo Ware admits to a criminal past as a gang member and drug dealer, but insists he's put that all behind him. He also said his wife deserves a chance to move on.
In 2012, Chicago police responded to a domestic abuse call at the Ware's house after Leo Ware struck his wife. The next year, while she was pregnant, Amanda Ware sought an order of protection, saying she feared for herself and her children because Leo Ware was using crack cocaine and might become violent.
I'd say there's plenty of evidence the children are in a dangerous environment.
No way in hell would I leave the kids with this pair.

You couldn't get fresh garlic where my Dad used to live. Not as uncommon as you may think. Oh, you can get it here. You can even get pine nuts and quinoa here apparently...it's just I don't know what to do with any of that. (pssssth - I'm trying to give you an out - take it!)

See, we really are related! I will admit that if it had been one of the long time posters here I would have taken it and run like the wind. But suesinfl seemed to be a somewhat newbie on the board and I didn't want her to think I was a dirty minded old broad. *snort* - sorry, don't buy it. We all know better!

Garlic chicken. Garlic cauliflower. I'm obviously going to have to buy real garlic cloves for the first time ever and figure out what to do with them. This should be an adventure. No garlic cloves in the house? Brain does not compute. :-) You couldn't get fresh garlic where my Dad used to live. Not as uncommon as you may think.

They have pre-minced garlic packed in water. Yea - I know it's a cheat but working parents need to save time where they can. Look for it either in the produce section (non refridgerated) or the Italian section of your grocery store. It's super convenient and you may find yourself using garlic for a flavor punch more often! www.spiceworldinc.com/index.php?page=ready-to-use-garlicYes, the flavor is a bit inferior to fresh garlic cloves, but it's convenient and easy.

Agreed, but there is also some word on the street that while this guy wasn't an angel, the department has corruption issues AND some people suspect some of these accusations against him are fabricated to throw the scent off other issues.
Like the small package of coke "found" in his desk that's allegedly been there for weeks? Umm, they have drug sniffing dogs in the station all the time, how is it possible this was missed?
I honestly don't know what to believe anymore.

Wow. That question can be taken more than one way...
Temperature - I'm hot blooded. Middle of winter in sleep shorts and tshirt and only the flannel top sheet on me while DH and DD are blanket burritos under several layers.
Personality - I'm very reserved. Definitely not the life of the party. Unless I'm with my closest friends then I'll let my guard down. Or my internet crew, cause we've shared here for years. DH's casual friends think I'm a stone cold bitch, and I'm ok with that.
Name one thing about your past you would change if you could.

She's going on and on to someone on the phone (apparently, the person will be visiting our state at some point) about how nice it is that we are so multi-cultural. Puhleeze. She's the most ethno-selfish person I know, to coin a word for it. Hates all other races except her own, hates it than anyone dares to speak anything other than English in this country, is chronically suspicious of anyone who looks even a little different....I want to hoist her up to the ceiling and use her as a piñata sometimes. [br Can I visit your office and make her really uncomfortable? There's no doubt looking at me that I'm hispanic. I can pretend not to speak English very well and if she talks crap, I'll flip the script and get all ghetto on her in perfect English. Since I'm so tattooed, she'd likely be really scared. I. would. pay. to. see. this!

Well hell. One of my interns just let me know they've decided to accept an internship with a big 4. While I'm happy for them (really - I am - it's a great opportunity) the timing right before year end blows. I really hope we can get someone in before year end. The timing is going to be painful enough as it is and my interns do perform real, value added work. They will be missed. (Damn! Damn! Damn! Damn!)

Hmm, didn't think of that. It's for art programs, and the only time I'd actually be overwriting is when I'm saving a file, so something to think about.

Not good. Not good at all. What grade is he in again? I'll be honest, had the same thoughts in jr. high and was super lucky to find a crew of peeps in HS that had my back (as I had theirs) who made me realize I had value as a human. Honestly don't know how I would have gone without them. Brain chemistry at that age sucks. Weight and body issues at that age suck. Is he talking to someone about this? (Professional?) He's in 8th grade but is the youngest in the class. Next year is the big move to high school and I've been pulling my hair out for two years trying to decide if small private would really be better than large public where he is more likely to find his "peeps". He's talked like that for a long time. He was seeing someone for awhile and we quit going a year or so ago. They said he has anxiety issues...which probably doesn't help the eating. I feel you pain, not as a parent but as the person who has been there. FWIW DD has flourished going from a smaller school to a much larger school (granted the transition was from a catholic K-8 with less than 300 students total, to a jr high with over 1000 in 6-8). She's a nerd extradonaire who happens to be an anime and math geek. Didn't fit in so well with the cheerleaders and dance class crowd at the small school. Is in the book club, anime club, and math club at her new school as has her own crew to hang with. My personal experience has been I've always done better going to bigger population sets, because then the odds of finding a subset (crew) that I fit in with are so much better. HS was better than grade school, college was better than HS. The adult word is even better than both. DH went through the same thing. We both have said many times we wish we could go back to our adolescent selves, and tell our younger selves that it will get much better.

OMG, You have lost me....you say "juice" and I'm wondering orange? cranberry? Graphics cards? Are those like what they used to confiscate from middle schoolers (circa 1962-1964) for having inappropriate stuff on them? Motherboard? Is that what mother kept in a drawer in the pantry that was similar to that board of education teachers kept handy for unruly children? Upgrading? that used to be good in school....far better than when your grades were headed down (resulting in an occasional ruler across the knuckles) CPU clocks? do those run on Grenwich time? 1.33 Ghz? Generally horrible zombie?? And only 1 and 1/3 of them? I'm no techie...and my date says "expired" Ok, that's cute! You win, there are others who are more out of date than am I! Thanks for the laugh!

He's such a sensitive kid, I have to be careful how critical I am. I forget about it sometimes because he's way bigger than me and kind of a smart ass to boot, but then he'll surprise me by breaking down crying because he's going to miss his cat when he dies (cat is perfectly healthy) or he doesn't feel he's "good enough" or "smart enough" and thinks everyone will be happier without him around. Not good. Not good at all. What grade is he in again? I'd think eye contact would be better than someone staring at your junk! What are you supposed to look at in there? Eye contact bad-means you might want to 'hook up' or challenging them to a who can pee the fastest contest. Not good. Looking straight up and counting the little holes in the tile ceiling is best. *Snort!* Seriously?!? Guys think like this!!! (No wonder I will never, ever, be able to understand DH)
