I have a cousin who is a redneck toothless neo Nazi. Does that mean I share his political views? Well, you're a lawyer. Isn't that bad enough? HAHAHAHA

Okay then if that is indeed the case, how then can she get a dispensation to do such? So the people that "give" the dispensations are going against the own holy book. So it is not about religion at all then is it, since one gets to pick and choose which parts they are want to follow, especially when it runs counter to what a person "believes?" Do I believe there is a difference between a Jihadist and a devout practicing Muslim, of course I do. A Jihadist, much like some preachers, priests or other "men of the cloth" twist the words of their own Holy Books to suit their own ends. Not about the religion at all but religion is used as the justification for their own nefarious deeds. She probably doesn't feel she needs a dispensation to marry whomever she pleases. She made a decision and followed through. The couple next door to me consists of a Jewish person and a Catholic. They've been married for nearly ten years and seem quite happy with one another. As I said, I know a couple of Muslim/Christian marriages. One consists of a Muslim man and a Christian woman, the other is the opposite composition. Both marriages appear quite solid and are of considerable duration. Not everyone feels they must comply with every edict passed down by their religion. How many Catholics use birth control? I don't even want to hazard a guess! Does that mean they should be pilloried? I don't think so.

Huma grew up in Saudi Arabia-- you know that, right?? Yes, I do. It doesn't mean she's a radical fundamentalist. If she was, she'd be running around in a burqa and married to another muslim. Are you saying all women who wear burqas and marry Muslim men are radical fundamentalists? Kind of intolerant of you, isn't it?

Do I see some pots calling some kettles black?
Maybe her marrying a Jew is exactly in line with the requirement to deceive infidels in any way they can. Maybe it's like our freedom of speech. Maybe it comes in all shapes and sizes.
Maybe. . . .
But who am I to know? Maybe the 9/11 hijackers weren't muslims at all. Maybe they were just unhappy Christians out on a lark.

Funny how all the "whine" threads about Barack Obama have turned out to be true. Funny how he has turned out to be just as destructive and inept as we "whined" he would be.

As your tag-line says, Marsha, that's your opinion. It may even be the majority opinion at this point in time. It may not be the opinion of everyone here, however.

Again, just like with The Bible, the Quran I think is misinterpreted to give justification for actions. A kafir in that sense is one that does not believe in Allah or God. A kafir can also be a Muslim, who changes the rules for his own gain, such as drinking and adultery. Most true Muslims believe that Jews and Christians and the respective writings of each religion stem from the same source, God, Allah, Yahweh, etc. There are those, as in any religion, that will twist things to suit their own ends, and according to their own religion, their own detriment.

Heh. I always remember the words of a good Muslim friend in Saudi ... "The Qur'an states a good Muslim should not take the first drop of alcohol. That's why I always spit the first sip out."

Apparently the marriage raised quite a flap in the Muslim community. I suppose Bill Clinton performed the ceremony because they couldn't find an Imam who would do it. Probably not a Rabbi either if they looked for one. Did Bill Clinton get one of those mail order ordinations or what? Anyway, for those interested there is quite an intricate and academic debate on the subject of a Muslim woman marrying a non-Muslim man. goatmilkblog.com/2010/08/25/muslim-women-should-not-be-able-to-marry-non-muslim-men-the-goatmilk-debates/

I'm oped's DH I'll probably get yelled at for doing this but here it is: Quoran(or Koran) is literally The Old Testament plus some. Mind the "some"! As in The Old Testament- eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth thing is valid . Taking revenge is normal and encouraged by the teachings. Other than that everything is about peace and prosperity. However in time some radical factions have evolved- ie Jihad. Just as much as the Crusades or the radical Christianism that we have today so there is each to its own fault. There is no difference between Christians and Muslims when it comes to radicalism. On the other hand we have the more "liberal" christians. What makes some people believe that there are no "liberal" muslims? Moreover, we are living in The USA, so everything goes. Mariage between races are accepted, in some places mariage between two of the same gender. Why should be mariage between two people of different religions be an exception? To that extent Huma and Anthony, fell in love and married(fairy tale?). Now that the things got bad they will probably split and that's that. End of story! Yeah I know, people would love something ugly and scary like "revenge of the sith" type but wow! they'll be dissapointed. They( the Weiner's) are both educated and progresive so if it comes to that they'll be each going on their merry ways. Huh! So much for the conspiracy theory!!!

This is why I support Herman Cain's position that no Muslims should be allowed to take up a Govt job. Some may say that such is unConstitutional but when the USA is under attack we cannot think of the Constitution. We need to do what it takes. Perhaps interning the Muslims in the USA is in order as well, like Japanese Americans were interned during WWII.

Newspapers all over the world are speculating about this marriage. Some are saying Weiner must have converted. Who knows? It is all very interesting. This is interesting . . . www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/browbeat/archive/2011/06/06/can-the-president-marry-me.aspxAt a vineyard years ago in Kewlona, British Columbia I saw a photograph of then President Clinton wearing a jacket that looked very much like a ship captain's uniform. It had stripes around the ;ower sleeve area. I wish I'd gone back when I lived closer to take a photograph of the photograph because I've never seen it anywhere else. I remember thinking at the time that not just anyone can wear a captains uniform. Maybe he was made an honorary captain of some sort in Canada??

Probably not a Rabbi either if they looked for one. Did Bill Clinton get one of those mail order ordinations or what? you mean one of those temporary licenses to be a wedding officiant? each state has its own rules, but it looks like pretty much anyone can do it. www.usmarriagelaws.com/search/united_states/officiants_requirements/index.shtml

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Islamophobic righties would try to smear Weiner's wife - but smearing Oxford University does surprise me.
All you righties be sure to look under your beds tonight for the boogeyman before you go to sleep.
