On my to do list this weekend was to apply for financial aid for next school year, even though I won't be able to start until January 2012. It was certainly a much different experience this time around than it was when I applied nearly 10 years ago as a senior in high school. Much, much easier. And the results came back immediately, rather than several weeks down the road. Also on my to do list: investigate getting copies of my advanced placement scores from high school (because apparently they do still count!) and work on an estimated budget for attending school. Continue to contemplate whether or not I want to attempt to work while going to school this time around. I think I've decided what I want to work towards, and if I go that direction I need to have top grades to get into the grad school program I'll need.

Chicago, which we use, as well as APA style, which I've used in freelancing, would have you italicize book titles, and put articles in quotes. Underlining only comes into play when handwriting.

Update: 8 NS + 14 CS = 22 of 27, 6 MOAN
In addition to adjusting the braces yesterday, we started rubber bands to start correcting the overbite. So not only does it hurt to eat my banana this morning, I also have to divide it in to thirds because I can't really open my mouth wide enough to take bites of the whole thing.
Renee: The immidiate results you got are federal estimates. You won't know your actual financial aid award until the school's financial aid office sends you an award letter. The fed site doesn't know about any state or specific school based aid you may qualify for.

Oh, it's looking like we might end up ripping out our pool. Some of you may remember that, the day before closing, we found out that the pool was illegal. If we'd insisted the owners legalize it, they'd have ripped it out. At that point we were exhausted after a summer of high-tension back and forth, and just caved. We enjoyed the pool a lot last summer, but when we went to open it this year discovered the pump died. So we got a new pump, one that was made for a pool and not a spa (it is a small pool). While technically it was equal Amps, etc, it kept shorting out the circuit. Something about how the filter was installed wrong blah blah long story short we'd need to run a new, dedicated wire out to the pool, upgrade our circuits, etc etc, to the tune of $2k. Which is bad enough. AND the guy would insist on it being to code and inspected. Which is where we hit the break. Because we're pretty positive that even if we wanted to legalize the pool (for another $5k) it wouldn't actually pass. It's too close to our fence. SO. Our options are to return the new pump (if they'll take it back) and get a new, spa pump that would hopefully work without tripping the circuit. Or rip it out. It's fairly old, and we'd rip it out before selling anyways. But it is just SO frustrating after everything (sweat and money) we've put into making it work, it might all be for naught. Just another example of how the previous owners half-a$$ed things that we now have to fix. GRRRRR.

Oh, and we got a $300 pool cleaning robot for Christmas that now we'd have nothing to use on. Sigh.

Update: 21/20 NSD, 25/31 NEO Red: Sorry for the bummer news about the pool. BFF is having fits with her house because of lies the previous owner made. They claimed they "fixed all the hail damage" from last year on the disclosure. Now they find out they cashed the $18,000 insurance check and didn't fix a darn thing. So DH didn't hear anything back from job he was called about a last month (Bummer). He did find another job right up his alley that he applied for this past weekend. The owner called my dad (because he knows dad and DH used to work for dad) about DH last night. DH is going to stop by and see him today if he gets off work in time. So fingers crossed that will work out ok. The whole job thing has DH a little stressed out- his current job pays him about 1/3 of what his previous job paid him.

Sheila - yeah I'm tempted to yell at them on FB (I've tracked them down before when we received UPS packages for them) but I know that would do no good 2 years down the road. I'm more frustrated for blue, who tries so hard to be "handy" but the way things were done by the old owners means that everything becomes a larger project for him than it should be. At the moment our front door is falling off because they installed the hinges backwards or something. And the plumbing... oh the plumbing... lol. Good luck to DH on the next job prospect!!!

Mom is here ;D we are spending the weekend doing chores around my house and she even brought her sewing machine up. Last night we bought a new dishwasher since my current one is el-crapo. Dad will be here later in the weekend to install.
I've got a few hours of work to get done today so I can relax with Mom. We also visited her cousin last night whom I adore, they're great people and we're going to get together this summer and go through family photos.
Also, my new computer arrives today! Woot! Woot! Since my $300 netbook has lasted just 18 months I went with a model that I knew had staying power. I'd like to get familiar with it over the long weekend and transfer my files so next week I'll be up and running.
Today should be a spend day. I need dog food, paint and baseboards.

Black Hills trip - Well ladies, it's official this morning. I'm not going to be able to join you on the black hills trip. When I logged into my bank account this morning to transfer the money out of savings and onto my credit card to purchase my ticket, my balance was much, much lower than I expected. Long story short, the garnishment I paid off in March sent my employer an adjusted balance due on the debt to account for interest and court costs, and my employer chose to take the entire amount (~$200) out of this check. It was already going to be tough for me to make the trip, financially speaking, and with that deduction it's now impossible. Perhaps it's for the best. There are other areas where I could very much use the money. I'm just kind of depressed and sad about the whole thing right now. Shan - yeah, I know it's an estimate from the gov't. But the first time I went through this it took weeks to get that estimate. Then again, at the time "dial-up" wasn't an internet death sentence.

Red: DH feels the same way as Blue. We have no electrical outlets currently working in the garage (other than the one for the garage door) and trouble shooting it is driving DH crazy! I find it slightly LOL at how frazzled he gets sometimes reenee: Sorry you won't be able to make the trip. Was really looking forward to getting to hang out with you. Maybe next time it will work out. Sucks that they took all of the money out in one big deduction- no fun at all.

RANT!!!! Seriously at some point in time I have to be able to catch a break right? Life won't always suck the big one right? DH is on his way to a jobsite and some jackass 19 year old decided to run a stop sign and t-bone him. In a borrowed car with no freaking insurance!!!! So now we have to try to get DH's truck fixed, figure out a vehicle for him to use while it's in the shop and oh yeah- our insurance gets to pay for it. So now we get to get hit with higher premiums. 15 years with nothing on our insurance and now this!

sheila - I sure hope your DH is ok. And I'm not sure about this, but I believe that not-at-fault accidents are looked at differently than at-fault accidents. Remember, it will only be on the driving record for a little while, then it will come off. (3 years in these parts)

reenee- talked to USAA (Love our insurance company). They will take care of everything. DH has a $30 a day allowance for a rental car. We pay the deductable straight to the body shop guy and they pay him the balance. Just have to drop the truck off there on Tuesday because they are, of course, closed for the weekend. DH was not injured. He is frustrated. The kid tried to drive off but DH jumped out and started writting down his license plate number so he stopped. Tried to talk to DH and DH said "you go stand over there because I don't have sh*t to say to you until the cop gets here" Cop showed up and said "What happened?" kid goes "I guess I ran that stop sign and hit him" DH's truck is paid for (paid $3700 for it a few months ago) but we have put like $800 into it in the past month or so. So really hoping they don't total it because I doubt we will get what we have in to it back.

Sheila: Glad DH is alright. And nice that the kid admitted it (even if he tried to run first). USAA will take good care of you, and they DO look at not at fault accidents differently. In fact, they could choose to take the kid to court and receive a judgement against him. (Happened to a friend of ours way back in the day when he was in an accident with no insurance- court ordered settlement). However, make sure you have or can get copies of the receipts for the purchase of the truck and the work you put in to it. When our Saturn was totaled, the fact that we could prove we were maintaining it (receipts for brake and transmission work in the last 6 months) meant they gave us more money for it.

Sheila - The other thing is that if they total the truck, they don't pay you blue book value for it, they actually price out what it would cost to replace it with the same model/year and comparable miles or a very similar model if they can't find very many of that type for sale in your area. When I totaled my little suzuki swift in 2007, I ended up getting nearly $1000 for it, even though blue book said it was worth less than $500. Though I doubt this would be worth it to you, my sister (who has totaled 4 cars between her and her DH) always go through the car and pull any after-market parts or parts that they've recently replaced and put stock/junk/non-functioning parts in their place. Anything they can't use in the next vehicle gets sold. Then again, you don't strike me as the type of family that puts $400 stereo systems in cars.

I need opinions. Our flower bed is all ready to go (finally). Last summer and fall, DH built a wall around it. Then we finally got the dirt to fill it in and last week we got the mulch. So today, I went up to the nursery to right down the plants that I like and get the information on them and price what my design is going to cost. I get home and I do my design and I still need to check the water requirements, but I got the heights all organized in a way that should make it look really cool. I price it out and it comes to $224! Oops. I was thinking maybe like $100. So, I went through my "must haves" and including a $35 Hydrangia bush, I'm at $105. I have $28 worth of coupons for the place. My scaled back version of my design comes up to $175. I'm thinking next weekend going and spending the $105. Then if we get coupons when we buy, send DH and DS up during the week and buy the remaining $70 worth. I think I will leave the design scaled back for now and see how things fill in. What do you guys think? I am so excited to do this and get it all done, but going all out probably isn't the most prudent thing.

muttley - I did something similar on a small piece of front yard I had on my townhouse and went "all out". I wish in hindsight I had done about 1/2 and waited a year to see how it all came in. The plants had their own ideas of how they wanted to grow and so things didn't go as planned! Go with the scaled down version - see how things grow - and you can add more later!

muttley--I agree with spruby. It is always better to under plant than to over plant. You live in an area where plants can grow quickly, you might be very pleasantly surprised.

Thanks guys. I was researching the plants I wanted to use a little more last night and some of them spread quite a bit so I may be able to scale it back a little more as well.

Happy Memorial Day everybody!!!
Today is a NS day; I am not leaving the house today. I have no idea how many I have. Today, I am watching tennis.
This weekend has been a mini staycation, though I've spent money. Friday, I had a new garbage disposal installed and a hair appt, then went to see my cousin off to her prom. Very cute.
Sat, cleaned my room. Oh what a difference a clean room makes. I stayed in the house until going to get an oil change and tire rotation. Since it was 6:30 pm, I didn't have to wait, but they informed me I needed front brakes and rear brakes soon. Arghh.
Sun, new front brakes and a little grocery shopping.
mizbear -- yeah for the good health news. Wow about the recliner. reenee -- sorry you can't make the trip this year. sheila -- glad DH is okay. Do you use USAA for anything else? USAA quoted me a slightly lower rate for my truck, but slightly higher for my house, so I opted to stay with my current insurance company since they just paid for a new roof. I just opened a checking acct with them. I have access to my paycheck earlier than with BA. I expect to cancel my BA acct next week. ses -- my house deductible is $500 as well. My roofing company replaced the roof and didn't charge me my deductible, so a free roof. My neighborhood took a beating during the hail storm we had in April. Black Hills trip -- I started packing on Sat. LOL. Nothing like hurry up and wait. red -- sorry about the pool. We've gone from winter to summer in a matter of days. I've never gone from heat one day to AC the next. I had the AC on earlier today and got cold, so I pushed it up and while I'm not hot, I do feel the humidity. ARGHHH. I'll keep the AC off a little while longer.

sapphire- One of these days I will learn to stay out of recliners post-surgery. When I had my gallbladder out several years ago- about 3 or 4- I got stuck in the recliner because I couldn't pull the arm to get out of it. I had to call my grandparents in the other room (I was in the family room in the back of the house, they were in the front in the formal space) to get someone - my grandfather as it was- to pull the arm on the recliner so I could get out and use the ladies room- SO embarassing!
It is around 100 here. I am doing housework. What I really want to do is sit down and eat a steady diet of these fudgsicles that are in the freezer. I mean they say Live Smart- so if I eat the whole box, I should be living very smart???
I am doing a lot of reading but not posting for a while because of schedule- but I will still be here. Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day!

mizbear - I would say that's genius!
A special shout out to all you out there who are military members or military family, Angel comes to mind, but forgive me if it's slipped my mind. And don't forget those older veterans... time doesn't nearly begin to repay the debt to those who sacrificed of their time (or more) to keep us safe. I'm the proud Granddaughter of a Korean War vet (thanks Grandpa! miss you every day) and a WWII vet (miss you too Grandpa!).

sapphire - I know what you mean about going from heat to AC. We usually have at least a couple weeks with neither in the spring and about a month in the fall. But this spring we have actually gone back and forth a couple times. It is really annoying and I am dreading my electric bill, but when you go from Freeze warnings to nearly 90 and back and forth for a month there isn't much of a choice, not with a LO in the house. I hope you all are having a good weekend. We are just having a blast here. We pulled out the pools (yes we have 2 pools for DS ... can you say SPOILED. LOL - 1 is a 2 ring wading pool, the other is a "splash" pool that is connected to the hose and shoots water up) Saturday and Sunday and played in them in the afternoons. At church yesterday, DS and his best bud were so funny. We sit right behind P's parents. So we were passing the boys back and forth. I could not have told you for the life of me what the sermon was about, but the kids had fun. This morning we went to zoo. We actually became Friends of the Zoo because if you go more than twice in a year it more than pays for itself. So, we hit the petting zoo area and the Giraffe feeding area and several other places. We were there for about an hour and a half. DS did great. My in-laws are coming over this evening and I'm actually all set. We are have steaks and veggie kabobs. If you are in the area, come join us. (yes I'm being a dork). Have a great day.

Happy Memorial Day Ladies! Especially to those who are currently serving or have served in the past.
Saw neighbor at the pool and probably will lots this summer. really thinking of just saying to her lets let by gones be by gones for the kids and move on. The puppy is healthy and has been under a vets care for the last 2 months so stop worrying about that. IDK. We will see. DS#1 wants to invite her son over for his b-day party so....

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. I can't believe May is almost done - crazy month. Looks like I am going to end the month with the following: CS/NS: 29/31 MOAN: 5 NEO: Lost track but I am sure I had at least one! DO we have a June name yet? How about Judicious June? Or have we used that before?
