mk- That neighbor needs to be taken out into the back 40 and taught some good old fashioned manners!
Leaving for procedure... yuck.
reeneejune- My mom has enough yarn around to repave Daytona in crochet!

Yesterday was a spend. Today is my only chance at an NSD this week, as tomorrow I have a dentist appt, and Friday we'll be going to the store. IF we don't need any last minute items, I might be able to pull an NSD off on Sunday when we have people over to the house for jambalaya.
MK: Sorry about the neighbor issues. Some dogs have eye gook, some don't. Moree and Smokey both used to get hard gook built up at the corners of their eyes, which we cleared multiple times a day (without really thinking about it, pretty much every time we would pet them, we'd check the corners of their eyes). Junebug pretty frequently looks like she's crying, and, freaking me out in a "I'm not used to this" kind of way, Larry doesn't appear to have any eye gunk build up. However, if they're paying $1k for their dog, there are two likely options- a pure bred who is likely to have (over the course of its life) more health problems than your dog ever will, or a "designer" dog, possibly from a not very responsible breeder, about which everything is a bit of an unknown. For those who might be wondering, I have absolutely nothing against "designer" dogs, other than calling them designer. They are mixed breed, which I am fully support (we met a Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix the other day, and I think that could be the key to saving the Bulldog breed), but it seems like the people breeding them for profit and the people buying them don't understand that it takes generations of selectively bred dogs to get any consistency in temperment, conformation, coat characteristics, even size. Until then, its really the same crap shoot you get with any mutt.
Renee: I think an 80" by 75" blanket should be long enough, its over 6' in any direction. But I understand the desire to have it square. And while I know its not part of your wardrobe, will you post pictures on your blog?
mizbear: My thoughts are in the waiting room for you. I've had my own colonoscopy, so they don't want to be with you with you, but here's hoping for a quick procedure and a day at home to rest afterwards.

MK--Wow, I am envious! We no longer have the option of a $500 deductible. Mine is now at just under $2000. It is a flat 1%, although I didn't realize exactly how much I was insured for. I can't imagine being able to sell for that amount. I'm glad you didn't suffer more damage than that. I thought of you when I heard about the storm, although the storms around Joplin got most of the news, it looks like you all suffered some terrible damage.
Smartstart-- is your hand soap able to be put into a pump and work well? I make my own laundry soap (Thanks, Honey) and wondered about hand soap. Any place to save a penny.

Honey - thanks for the laugh re: shampoo!! This explains a lot... also, sorry to hear about the elections. But perhaps a break from all their drama will be good for you! Sparked.com - glad you guys are finding it useful! now I'm done my freelance gig I'm going to try to do more through them. Muttley - ah, so there's hope for my SIL that she can get one of the kids out of diapers! Her daughter is a month younger than your DS. I'm sure she'd love to potty train her so she's only got the newborn diapers to deal with! Looking at cars lately. New isn't much cheaper than used these days. been looking at Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, and Nissan Versa. Anyone have any experience with any of these? The woman I interviewed with at the job I really wanted is ignoring my emails asking for an update. And the job's been reposted. I guess they aren't able to match my salary (the job pays quite a bit lower than what I make now) but they could at least inform me of that. startsmart - your grandma is a hoot. I love that she's still got it goin' on! I hope everyone is staying safe from all these crazy storms. Beautiful but deadly. mizbear - good luck today! i had that last summer and no fun! We've been having issues with our pool. First there was a leak, and our pump was broken. So we find a good deal on a new pump, and fix the leak (all within our "pool" budget I set up). But now it shorts out the circuit. Something with how it's set up backwards (most pools the water goes pump then filter, ours it's filter then pump, so the pump has to work harder to get the water through the filter). So now we have an electrician coming tomorrow to increase our circuit capacity by 15 AMPS or something like that. Not looking forward to that bill, but want my pool, dammit! Just feel bad for blue, who has been working a ton at work, and really wanted to get the pool going. Nothing's ever easy at our house, it seems. And this week he got sent to VA last-minute to work on his work project with the whole team, so I miss him. And today's his birthday. He is coming home this afternoon, and we're supposed to do pub trivia, but I'm thinking we'll cancel. He was still at work at midnight so I can't imagine he's got the energy for another late night. We shall see. I start my next class tonight. It's on copyright in the digital age, which could be interesting. My heart is just not in it for this one though. I signed up thinking my work would love that I was taking it, but they gave me a really hard time for some unexplained reason and are grudgingly paying for it. I should have done a copyediting course instead, but at this point I don't want to battle them again for approval. Still waiting on grades from my two spring courses so I can apply for tuition reimbursement. Want my $800 back!! I've been enjoying gardening this year. I have a little strawberry plant with a few ripening strawberries. And my veggie garden is getting off to a good start. And I've kept my two rose bushes alive so far! Go me! Gin - congrats on your wedding!!! so exciting! mitten - that neighbor sounds ridiculous. sorry she's giving you trouble. Okay, back to work with me!

red - LOL. Yeah there is hope, but so many people don't even think about potty training until their LOs are 2 or 3. In fact there was an article about potty training in Parenting magazine and they basically thought potty training before 2 years was voodoo and you shouldn't do it because it might emotionally damage your kids. LOL. Yeah .. you can bet some diaper company paid for that study. mk - WHat a crappy neighbor. I'm sorry about the drama.

I plan on working on the potty training this summer for both DD an DS#2. DS#2 may be interesting as he wigs out at the potty but since I am going to do her I figure I may as well try to do him also. Not sure how a nonverbal kid will let us know when he has to go.... At least I still have one size in Huggies I can go to for him....
At the bus stop the neighbor made remarks about us attacking her on facebook etc. Hmmmm actually it was her attacking me and I deliberately didn't say a lot, now my family on the other hand had plenty. And DF saying she doesn't know what the hell she is talking about isn't attacking her either, that would be a fact. I am to the point where just treat my kid okay when he is over and don't talk to me. Will be tough with DD but I may just get her to the park more or other things to keep her busy. I think the whole family needs some serious medicating!
mizbear: Hope it goes quickly, I had one when I was in my teens. Am not looking forward to when they want to do it again. I think you will deserve a whiskey or whatever you want after that!
muttley: glad all the bad storms have missed you. This has been a crazy year. This year is already in the top 10 for worst storms and may get into the top 3.
SES: This was big hail storm #5 since we built this house in 2004. I don't dare lower the deductable even though we would save on our premiums. That 1% has really hurt some people around here in the past.
Yippee I found my counter top on my island and the top of my desk! Plus I found a coupon I had been searching for

So I went ahead and tore out the last row and tied it off. When I laid it out on my bed I got a "hmmm" moment... the pattern stitch I used isn't terribly directional, so I rotated it a quarter turn so the original width became the length and it looked just about perfect. I may or may not add the suggested edging later... I adapted a free baby blanket pattern, so the edging may just be too frilly for my tastes. And it really doesn't look bad as is. mizbear - I used to have quite a yarn stash P.F. (pre-fire) so now I just have to purchase when I'm making a project. Trying very hard not to build another yarn stash! Shan - I've been tossing that idea back and forth. If I do, I'll make a separate category for "home" projects, I think.

mizbear - I agree completely. Allowing people on assistance to build a 6 month or even a 3 month emergency fund would help them learn to think beyond paycheck to paycheck, and start building a better future for themselves. I'll be saving money in cash from now on so that I don't have to declare it when I apply for financial aid when I go back to school. Then again, I also think that debt payments should be taken into account when figuring eligibility for assistance, as long as the person agrees to avoid taking on any further non-medical or education related debt and makes timely payments to those debts. I really think it's a "give a person a fish...teach them to fish" sort of situation. We're giving out tons of fish, but no fishing poles. I agree with Reenee, where are the fishing poles? I just found out that NY counts student loans as income when determining if someone gets food stamps. I am confused by that.

SES - yes! it actually works best in a pump because it's like a gel, not entirely fluid but not a solid either. It works best to empty a soap pump or lotion bottle and then funnel in the soap right off the stove.
red- yes, grandma also warned me to beware of shampoo getting into my brain so... yeah. she's a hoot and a half.

Hey All, I am swamped with end of the school year task and preparing for a trip up north with friends. Which brings me here to ask yet another cooking question. I am going to be making these for breakfast. thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/12/french_breakfast_puffs/ She does tell me how to freeze them but what I want to know if I am going to make them tomorrow mid day and serve them either Sunday or Monday morning do I need to freeze them or can I just store them in a airtight container until then, warm and serve? This will be my first make ahead meals weekend! I am also making pulled barb b que beef for sandwiches this weekend. I plan on making it tomorrow, keeping it stored in the crock pot and then just heating it up to serve. Wish me luck! Sorry for crashing the party just to ask a question but I know I get a quicker, accurate response here without seeming like a complete ding dong since you already know my cooking is my nemesis!

mk - Good luck potty training this summer. Does DS $2 sign at all? We are trying to get Ben to sign, but the fact that he will point to the potty also works. I know I would not be in a hurry to try potty training if DS didn't like the potty, but I feel like we should run with it now while he likes it, ya know.

Forgot to post this earlier- you will laugh- I did when they told me I did it- LOL from this afternoon- I was asleep in the recliner after my thing and my brother let the front door close hard at DGMs- I jumped and the recliner flipped over on me- I apparently continued to sleep through the whole thing while my DB, DM, aunt, uncle and cousin extracted me from man-eating recliner and put me back in it. Good drugs!
mk- After going from diapers to Pullups, there is a child and youth size pullup that can be ordered from your local Home Health store. Also, we have had good luck with the Assurance brand from Wal-Mart (DGM prefers how the men's fits because she is not curvy). My older niece had prblems with underdeveloped bladder, so we did Pullups and overnites and anything we could for her. Just an idea to throw out there in case you need it. Hopefully a potty sign will be worked out.

AZmom--Those breakfast puffs are devine! One of my aunties would make them for special occasions. There were never enough left to freeze, but I would think they would be better if NOT frozen. When frozen I think the slight crunch of the coating would just soak into the muffin and dissapear. They really are best served hot, but they are delish anytime. I think i might have to bake soon.

I got my NS yesterday! I'm hoping to pull another one off before the end of the month, but we'll see. I do need to stop by the grocery store today and get some onions (needed for the stock DH will start making tomorrow) and a jabanero for the jambalaya.
Cousin has a job interview today at 2:30pm. She experiences stress nausea and was having a bout yesterday. She kept trying to say she shouldn't be as stressed as during school, but our family stresses, and she's stressed about paying for school next year. She won't know about her financial aid until mid-June, but she expects to be about $3k short. We reminded her that we gave her $2k last year and were willing to give her $2k every year while she's in school, so hopefully that will help her stress a little bit.
It would make things tight for us, but not so tight we couldn't make it work. I'm also hoping to see a financial aid offer for DH sometime mid-June, and then I'll have a clearer picture of what's going on. If he's offered any subsidzed student loan, we've decided we'll take it. It will be interest free while he's in school and the first 6 months after he graduates. After that, it will be at 3.4% APR. I figure given that it would probably only be a couple thousand dollars at most, we could actually pay it off during the 6 month grace period, but if we didn't, that's not an interest rate I'm going to stress over. (Technically, its tax deductible, but my SLs already have us hitting the max amount and will for quite some time.)
The roomie found out yesterday that part of his relocation package is that his new company will pay his last month's rent. So while we haven't been charging him rent, he's going to see about getting his company to pay us something in the $600-$700 range (which would be a reasonable rent, if we were to charge it).
I have to get my braces adjusted today, so I expect to be in a crabby mood for the next couple days with my jaw hurting.
mizbear: Yay for no polyps!
Hope everyone and their loved ones are safe and sound.

Writing here on a little work break since I'm trying to be more structured in my work day. Trying is the operative word in that sentence.
Mom is coming into town today and bringing the truck! We're picking out a dishwasher, probably tomorrow, and Dad will install when he arrives. I'm also hoping to get the baseboards finished, replace the outlets and switches in the back bedrooms and bathroom and hang my new mirrors in the bathrooms.
Other than Home Depot, no planned spending over the weekend. However, we might take Grandpa out for lunch or a drive.
I really need to clean up the house more before Mom arrives; dishes, laundry, vacuuming. Thankfully the guest room is ready but since I spend most of my time in the office or living room Mom doesn't hang out in the guest room much.
Okay, back to work until my next break, in which I'll probably be cleaning!

I went to get my yearly female exam this morning and finally broke down and accepted a Tetanus shot! Can you say ouch? I am a big baby when it comes to shots but I know that it is necessary in my line of work as a mommy I will be getting an ultrasound done soon. I am pretty sure I have an abdominal hernia, plus I have been having some pretty sharp pains around my belly button. Could be hernia related I guess. Not really excited about having surgery since my deductible is outrageous! I just started reading Pujols (first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals) and I LOVE it. First we have the same birthday, although I am older by four years and his dad is/was (not sure at this point) an alcoholic. Plus, there are so many baseball facts, stats and terminology to make my drool. I seriously think I will be done by tomorrow. This weekend, at the cabin, I am going to read Unbroken. Friend say it is too good to put down too. So excited to have a few good reads lined up . Oh and for you grammar geniuses out there: How do you correctly write the title of a book if it is being typed like the above or in an article? Do you italicize it or underline it? Mizbear: Yippee Potty Training: I am the worst at training my kids. My two older kids were three when they were free of diapers but the baby was going potty before she was 2 and that was mostly because she trained herself. Seriously! When it was all said and done I bought and changed diapers for an entire eight years of my life! Renee: Can you re post a link to your blog? I would love to see your stuff SES: We are going up to a friends cabin. 3 families total 6 adults, 11 kids and 1 dog. We each do a breakfast and a dinner and lunch on our own. Those muffins will be a special treat to the kids. After looking over the menu plans I think I will seriously come home 10 pound heavier, especially since no one is taking any workout gear (bikes, shoes, clothes, etc.)

Book titles should be underlined. Magazines, articles, chapters, and short stories are in quotes--I think.
Have fun at the cabin!

SES: That is what I thought and then I went on google (because that is where I gain all of my knowledge these days) and "they" say when you hand write something you underline because you do not have the ability to italicize it but if it is typed you italicize it. UGH! I just did a blog post with all the MANY titles italicized. "They" did say that magazine titles and the rest you mentioned are in quotes.
Muttleyn: That is what I hear. We were drawn to the book originally because we are all runners and it was advertised as a running book in a magazine we all read but I guess it is much more than that huh? A perfect read for the Memorial Day Weekend.
I am making Cinnamon rolls for the first time today!! Wish me luck. The dough is resting right now for an hour. This is the first time I have ever used active yeast. They just might be done in time to take to the school administrators. The recipe is enough to make 7 pie pans worth! Oh My Goodness I just really hope they come out tasting and looking semi delicious.

So I've spent the morning looking at my options for getting to and from the Black Hills Meetup. Because even though I promised that I'd fly in, I just had to check all of my options. For the curious, here's what I found: Fly from Portland to Rapid City: $485 (includes taxes/fees), $20 apx. gas for a friend to drive me to the airport. Rent a car and drive: $490 apx. This includes the week long rental, unlimited miles, and estimated gas costs based on the average MPG for the cars in that class and $4 per gallon for gas. Fly to Denver (Southwest airlines) and take greyhound the rest of the way: $478... though it's possible to get this as low as $396, but the dates wouldn't work well with the planned trip.
Yes, it's still bugging me that I can't find a cheaper way to make this happen. Sigh. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and do it before the prices go up.

MLA is considered the "normal" format used when writing. The other one is Chicago which is for history and I am not sure the rules on that.

If anyone needs the Chicago format- let me know- I will look it up in my writer's reference.
My DGM doesn't know it yet, but my Uncle #1 has decided after I was ejected from the recliner yesterday (not the first time it did that to someone) that he is replacing it. He said probably for Christmas, so I am his secret shopper. I get to go pick out the new recliner when I put a payment on my layaway next month! And he's buying! He's afraid one of the children or DGM herself will be ejected next.

Update: 16 NS and 9 CS daysJust popping in to say hello. I think that I am almost finish with driving to school. One more trip to return something and then no other required trips until the end of July. I will of course be fielding emails on a regular basis. Expect at least 10 a day for the beginning and I hope it will taper down by the end of next week. It is a lot easier than driving there to take care of the same thing. Plan to begin to organize a few items each day. I was able to store a lot of things at school so the stuff I have to organize is just my usual junk. End of school = things out of order. I spent today with DOM today so the clutter stayed at home just waiting for me. Sometimes I wish I could be like Jennie and just blink things into order. Black Hills -- one month from today. Time will fly until then ladies.
