Nobody is "scared" of good conservative values.  The problem is that today's version of the GOP knows nothing about good conservative values.  They are driven by fear, anger, ignorance, bigotry, hate, and an almost all-consuming drive for power.  It has been so for arguably about 40 years. 

There was a time when the Republican Party was honorable.  There was a time when the Republican Party stood for something.  There was a time when I described myself as having "Republican leanings."  That died for good when Reagan was elected.  His economic and tax policies were the beginning of the end for us economically, and his embrace of the "Religious Right" (and do not dare call them the "Christian Right" because there is nothing Christian about them) was the beginning of the extreme polarization and division and the morass we now find ourselves in culturally.  The more intertwined politics and religion become, the more both are corrupted until neither have value remaining.  There are still some, though not very many, in the GOP who stand up for good values.  There are still some Christian leaders who speak out against the hypocrisy and the evil being perpetrated by faux-"Christian" leaders.  There are not enough of either, and unless we are very diligent in the next couple of years there may not be any left.

The GOP needs to purge themselves of the extreme elements plaguing them.  They need to obliterate the last vestiges of Trumpism.  Take back their party.  True Christians need to purge themselves of the extreme elements plaguing them.  Reject and denounce the bigots and the "Christian nationalists."  Reclaim their faith.  If either can achieve that, they will again have value to this country.  If they can't, they will die, and deservedly so.

When they ousted McCarthy for actually doing the right thing for the first time in his speakership, did Republicans have a plan to move forward?  No, they continued to embarrass themselves by cycling through a number of candidates for weeks, including at least one who was intimately involved in the assault on the Capitol and who threatened anyone who didn't support him.  Which party is full-blown nuts?

Is it Democrats who have a significant contingent of their party actively supporting Putin?  No, that is Republicans.  Which party favors American interests?

Is it a Democratic senator who is single-handedly holding up hundreds of military promotions, thus hurting the readiness of our armed forces?  No, it's a Republican.  And are other Republicans doing anything to break the "blockade?"  Not for months.  Which party does not keep their members in check?

what constitutes "high crimes and misdemeanors" has never been established. scgal.  therefore, your stance here is absurd.  if you disagree, then please show me when, if ever, this has been determined.  Clinton was impeached for Perjury.  is that a high crime?  most people skate on that charge.  particularly when they can invoke their 5th amendment rights.  which he could have.

i will add that the root of the word liberal is LIBER, which means FREEDOM.  a liberal is most concerned with individual freedom.  this is why liberals are NOT statists (or only statists to the degree necessary to protect the powerless from the powerful).  this is why Jefferson, the quintessential liberal, was anti-Federalist.  the meaning of the term has been subverted by radical conservatives since the late 50's, when neo-fascists like McCarthy were popular and well respected and used this language to marginalize anyone who disagreed with them.  and we have seen this same thing happening since Reagan.  even though he, himself, was largely a liberal.
