Mike Johnson Sparks 'Handmaid's Tale' Comparisons After Becoming SpeakerAfter a three-week deadlock, Louisiana congressman Mike Johnson has been elected Speaker of the House. However, the 51-year-old's anti-abortion views and previous comments on Roe v. Wade have are igniting comparisons to The Handmaid's Tale online. In the 1985 book by feminist author Margaret Atwood, the United States government has been overthrown and replaced by a totalitarian Christian regime called the Republic of Gilead. The novel follows Offred, one of society's few remaining fertile women, who is forced to produce children for the ruling class of men and their wives—dubbed a "handmaid." The Handmaid's Tale was adapted into a TV show in 2017, starring Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes and Alexis Bledel. After Johnson was named speaker on October 25, people took to social media to express their concerns. "Mike Johnson is now the Speaker of the Handmaids Tale GOP Congress," said Colleen Shelley. "He is a traitor to this country and a menace for women's rights." Rest of article here: Mike Johnson Sparks 'Handmaid's Tale' Comparisons After Becoming Speaker

It isn't always the cream that rises to the top. Sometimes the scum does too. Didn't I hear in his first speech that he plans evil for Medicare & Social Security?

Can we support aborting him from the speaker role ASAP? What a tool of Satan, not Christian in any way that I heard in the first minute.

Typical democrat deflect deflect deflect. As usual, you totally missed the fucking point. It's not that he's against abortion. It's that he thinks you can ABORT a 16 year old child!!!! JFC, how dumb do you have to be to say something like that? That's not abortion. That's murder (because it occurred *after* birth, in case you're not sure of the difference).

Johnson is a complete tool. On the plus side, he's unlikely to accomplish anything with that circus.

Typical democrat deflect deflect deflect. He also thinks the Bible is a history book and dinosaurs were on the ark/lived when people did. “The Ark Encounter is one way to bring people to this recognition of the truth, that what we read in the Bible are actual historical events,” Johnson said in a 2021 interview with Ark Encounter founder Ken Ham while guest-hosting the radio show of Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, an evangelical activist group.Thinks that allowing gays to marry will lead to bestiality The following year, Johnson wrote another editorial in favor of a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Louisiana, suggesting that gay people marrying each other could prompt people to start marrying animals. “Homosexual relationships are inherently unnatural and, the studies clearly show, are ultimately harmful and costly for everyone,” he wrote. “Society cannot give its stamp of approval to such a dangerous lifestyle. If we change marriage for this tiny, modern minority, we will have to do it for every deviant group. Polygamists, polyamorists, pedophiles, and others will be next in line to claim equal protection. They already are. There will be no legal basis to deny a bisexual the right to marry a partner of each sex, or a person to marry his pet.”And thinks women need to have more babies. During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Rep. Mike Johnson attacks Roe v. Wade, insisting that if only women were compelled to bring more "able-bodied workers" into the world, Republicans wouldn’t need to slash Social Security and Medicare.
So, yeah, you got what you want, and a whole pile of crazy as well. Congrats!!

And then there is this........... www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/27/mike-johnson-great-replacement-theory-house-speaker/Rep. Mike Johnson, the newly elected House speaker, has repeatedly flirted with what’s known as the “great replacement theory,” the idea that Democrats are scheming to supplant American voters with immigrants. The Louisiana Republican’s views show how fringe conspiracy theories have gone mainstream in the Republican Party at the highest levels of power. “This is the plan of our friends on this side — to turn all the illegals into voters,” Johnson said at a congressional hearing in May 2022, gesturing at Democrats. “That’s why the border’s open.”............. Johnson employs it regularly. He reiterated the claim in an interview this year with the right-wing outlet Newsmax, accusing President Biden of “intentionally” encouraging undocumented migration to “turn all these illegals into voters for their side.” On numerous other occasions, he has made similar charges, even declaring that Democrats’ express goal is the “destruction of our country at the expense of our own people.”

70 plus million people voted Repulican... and will do so again in the future.
I'm pretty sure the Republican party wants to do away with democracy in America.
I don't think there are any Moderate Republicans (they either were strong armed into voting in Johnson (so much for democracy and representing their voters) or they think he's perfect for the job and advancing their agenda (there are no Moderate Republicans).
I think the Republicans are pushing their agenda to change America from a democratic government into an Authoritarian government and are pleased with the progress.
I think America is teetering on the edge of losing it's right to call itself a Democracy.
If the Republican Presidential candidate doesn't win the election in 2024 - I'm betting the Republican party will be able to successfully overthrow the vote. They had a trial run at it and have fortified the positions they need to make it actually happen.

Looks like Johnson "pwned that doctor" in the video (and some of the posters here) with his logical fallacies.... bet he was like "yaaaash!!! got her!!! I'm the man!!!" in his head.
That guy is a manipulative asshat.

Typical democrat deflect deflect deflect. Why should she have to answer such a stupid question? I'd "be a complete mess" too as my brain tried to wrap itself around how we got to that point. There is no answer for something that stupid. It's amazing to me how refusing to answer a completely illogical and stupid question that is solely asked to draw attention is now heralded as "sticking" it to someone and proof the person is hiding something. And if she had answered it would have still be a "gotcha' because he would have argued since she said no then why is abortion different? If she said yes he would have said it is proof democrats are all child killers. Ha ha! Behold the power of circular logic! We should be taking someone who wastes time asking idiotic questions like that to task. We are de-volving as a society.

Abortions don't happen during birth, I'll make it bigger in case it is hard to remember since GOPers keep pushing false narratives about this including Trump the liar. It was a shit question and should not be answered. It is as dumb as believing there are litterboxes in schools and Jewish space lasers are causing forest fires. BTW, do you support concealed carry for infants?

I was going to ask scgal how she stood on stand your ground laws between an infant and any adult that wanted to change its diaper. And are the rules different if the adult is a homeowner versus a babysitter or grandparent?

Of course it is a gotcha question simply to point out how far will forced birth abortion activists will go. I am willing to admit that I believe Non medical necessary, the ones that are purely done because they don't want a baby are nothing more than child killers and there should be laws to that effect but that will never happen. His religious beliefs are quite out there I don't see much different in those and the idiots who think cows farting will hurt the ozone. Yes we are de-volving as a society and have been for quite some time. Some issues we will agree on some i'm sure we won't Its the forced birthers who think abortions can occur at birth, not people who believe abortion should be an option to save the mother's life in the third trimester. Less than 1% of all abortions occur in the third trimester. Almost every state has laws against elective abortions in that trimester and often much earlier. Only someone who believes scary propaganda would believe murder could occur when the child is being born. Now deaths do occur at birth. The baby nay be in the birth canal too long, the cord could choke them to death based on how they are positioned, or they could be those medically frail ones that can't survive without the mother and die within hours or the first week. That's reality though, not some forced birther fantasy. It's not murder, its nature. The word stillbirth exists for a reason and infant mortality is up in this country because of stupid anti abortion policies.

Reading can be your friend. Cows producing methane are an easier avenue to fix much like car emissions. Depending on the source, cows make up 20 to 30+% of the methane produced. That's pretty significant even if you want to deny that too. letstalkscience.ca/educational-resources/stem-in-context/cows-methane-and-climate-changeOne of the most commonly known greenhouse gases is carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon dioxide is a colourless, odourless gas. It is released when fossil fuels are burned. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The carbon in the carbon dioxide was stored for millions of years under the ground in the form of hydrocarbons. After carbon dioxide, the next most abundant greenhouse gas is methane (CH4). Although carbon dioxide is much more abundant in the atmosphere than methane, methane traps roughly 30 times more heat than carbon dioxide. This makes methane an important gas to keep an eye on. What are the sources of methane emissions? Methane comes from both natural sources and anthropogenic (human-related) sources. Natural sources include: Wetlands bodies of water Plant-eating animals (such as elephants, kangaroos, and termites!) Human-related sources fall into four main categories: Natural gas-based Petroleum-based Agriculture-based Other sources Agriculture-based sources include rice production, livestock, and manure management. Other sources include the burning of biomass, coal mining, and the treatment of waste in landfills and wastewater.

Article provides good analysis: Mike Johnson is well within the mainstream of today’s GOPI could go on and on about Johnson’s record on different issues that many object to, and we’ll find fairly consistently that while he may not be with the median general election voter, he is with the median Republican voter.
