I found 2 gigantic turkey legs at the big store today so I'll wrap them individually for the freezer - one will be a huge meal for both of us sometime during December and January. We love turkey! We are having turkey breast for Thanksgiving. But, it was cheaper to buy a whole turkey. We will be freezing the wings, legs, and thighs for later. Probably on the smoker if I'm feeling frisky. Throughout my grocery travels last week, I only remember seeing turkey parts in one store. And they didn't have much. Definitely hard to find these days!

After grandpa lost the farm and mom's family moved to a rental, their house burned to the ground in the 1930's. Mom and my aunts said it went up like a tinder box.
My uncle was home on leave and had brought his girlfriend and a couple of buddies over. Supposedly one of the buddies and a cigarette butt in a coat pocket that wasn't out and that's what caused the fire.
Grandma said she would not live in a house built of wood after that. Grandpa found a stone house for her. That's where they moved until they moved to town in retirement. The Old Stone House was not a part of the family by the time I was old enough to remember and it's no longer standing.
A year ago, a cousin took me out to where it used to be and the tree that was a sapling in pictures I have is now a huge tree.

MarionTh230 Thank you for vaccinating Brooks despite side effects like lethargy-the consequences of not vaccinating are horrible. It really hurts to see our fur babies not 100%, that's the tough job of parents for everyone they care about

MarionTh230 Thank you for vaccinating Brooks despite the relatively minor side effects like lethargy-the consequences of not vaccinating are horrible. I am all in on vaccinations for all humans and fur babies. There certainly is an argument that could be made that since Brooks is an exclusively indoor cat that vaccination isn't truly necessary. But our vet recommends it and I trust them. We also board Brooks whenever we take a trip. So it just seems better to take the ounce of prevention. DH was a little concerned this morning though. Brooks didn't eat much breakfast and he didn't want to play. Just sleep and cuddle. I had to remind DH that Brooks got vaccinated yesterday and the side effects were typical. The vet called around 10am to follow up and see how he was doing. I told them and they said yep, to be expected. Was finally able to get DH to relax after that! Brooks is sniffing around his balls and wands tonight. I'm sure he will be right back to playing like normal by the morning.

I'm a bad pet mom. I time the vaccinations for the pets for when I want a quiet weekend. They'll be quiet for at least a day. They all get done on the same day, too. I just run a tab!

I'm a bad pet mom. I time the vaccinations for the pets for when I want a quiet weekend. They'll be quiet for at least a day. They all get done on the same day, too. I just run a tab! I am an even worse pet Mom. I let Mister handle all of that, giving the dogs meds when they need it, Heartguard on time, and making sure they get their vaccinations on time. He takes all of that very seriously, and has not dropped the ball on all of it, so I m good with leaving those things to him. One thing that does kind of make me sad though, is that I don’t think that before we got Newbie and was clear about how I take care of dogs, I don’t think OG was going to annual vet visits, getting vaccinations, taking Heartguard, and all the other stuff I insisted we do with Newbie. OG wouldn’t even eat all of her food, but when I started talking about feeding Newbie real food, even though we ended up not cooking for them like I wanted to, we did end up buying all natural dog food, and OG cleaned her dish every time she was fed that food. I am not trying to knock Mister, I am just pointing out another way that we were different, and he learned something from how I did things. Not that I did/do everything right, I don’t. But even though he grew up with dogs, basic care that I thought was important, wasn’t even on his radar until we got Newbie and I insisted on her getting vaccinations (an adult dog my Mom let my brother and I take in when I was a teenager died from Parvo, even though my Mom had taken him to for his vaccinations) and stuff like Heartguard (my chow chow got heartworms because I wasn’t consistent with preventive measures, and even though she survived it, it was a lot of work and expensive to get her through something that could’ve been prevented). So even though we still aren’t on the same page as far as training, he does at least do things regarding their health, that he didn’t do with OG until we got Newbie. And I don’t want to paint him as a person that didn’t care about OG, he absolutely did. A few years before we moved together, she somehow busted her paw in his parents’ back yard, he immediately took her to the vet because it looked like a wound that needed care and I went with him to take her to the vet. The vet said OG needed surgery to tend to the wound. It was going to cost almost $500. That was back when I had more income and money than Mister, and he was upset that he didn’t have the $500 to pay for it, and was trying to figure out when he could just bring her back. I told him that I could pay for it, let them go ahead and do what needed to be done, and he could just pay me back. Or not, in my mind, but I knew it wouldn’t have sat well with him if just tried to for it, and didn’t say something about him paying me back. Which he did. That’s the kind of stuff I use to do when I believed we were trying to be a team. When I had more income and money, I had no problem sharing it with him, even though I had to be careful not to injure his pride in doing so. But somehow that history has been erased and I became a gold digger in his mind, when I started having issues with my stomach and started missing so much work that I didn’t have the kind of money I use to have. And I was using him by thinking he would have my back, like I’d had his for years prior. I know this post was just supposed to be about dogs and I went off on a tangent. I apologize.

I asked my neighbour to give Sushi his meds while I'm in the hospital. She said 'What do I do? Put the pill in a gob of peanut butter? In some cheese?" Good Lord, it's not a dog! Dogs will eat anything, including the nuggets they find in cat litter. Never mind. Going without his thyroid medication for 5 days won't kill him. Just feed him.

We're on our way to planning a Disney cruise. I found an agent I like and we are getting dates hammered out.
Deposit can be refunded up to 90 days before.
We decided after discussing it to keep going and not let my manager rule our entire lives. Especially now thar I know we can refund the trip worst case.
Working in a day at the magic Kingdom too. It isn't as much as I thought to bundle a day in and since it's also Disney we can use their shuttle service to get on the cruise.
I'm excited. This is my first time planning a trip this big. Boreno was handled by the college I just paid the bill.
This will hopefully be a big memory for the kids too which is my goal. My dad still talks about when he went to Disney World as a kid.

Things are chugging along. Tomorrow I have a telehealth appointment with my surgeon. Thursday it's pre-op testing, which will take 3 hours. Over the weekend, I have to write notes for Simon and Christine re Sushi's care, get more cat food, and bring my jewellery for my other neighbour to babysit. There's a chance that the CLSC will send nurses over to check for infection, etc. I don't trust them. There's a big nursing shortage and they're scraping the bottom of the barrel re hiring. So, Alan and his husband will keep thousands of dollars of jewellery at their house. Wednesday of next week is my surgery.

My Charlie is our sensitive boy and he sometimes lethargic and cruddy the day after his vaccines. I hope Brooks is back to 100% tomorrow. You want a chuckle and then immediately feel bad? Try to imagine a three-legged cat trying to run while still recovering from anesthesia. It's funny to me now! Lol

I have taken benzonatate since up here, that stuff is really good in stopping coughing. I had never heard of it before.
I was going to bake today but hubs was feeling bad and I was thinking might have to take him to the ER again. I ended up buying a pecan pie and an apple one at Costco, they are huge and prices not bad. I also bought chocolate chip cookies. I would rather bake them, but this just wasn't the time. I will cook the fresh green beans and make the corn, also the dressing and noodles plus baked beans so some of it will be home cooked. Wish all of it were. Son said they can make some items I told them they can if I need them to. My kitties are fully vaccinated, but it's a hassle getting those wildcats shots. I need to find a strong vet for their future ones.
Bought a beautiful bouquet of flowers, love them for holidays
We will get the flooring, but if hubs doesn't feel better, I may have to put it in and I can. Don't know about the stove, I want to have the gas line installed and he is saying he can do it. I'm telling him it needs a permit here so that is a battle yet. He doesn't need a new truck at this time, it's a 2020 and nothing wrong with it. As far as the garage he may have to wait until we sell another house. Right now with all the uncertainty surrounding our new admin, can't even say it, I'm not sure we should spend much.
My car insurance just went to $2000 a year for one car, haven't transferred hubs yet. I'm going to look around, that is terrible. I guess we are paying for all the vehicles burned up in fires and ruined by floods, that's awful, never paid anything like that before.
I just looked at Smokes paw, the one pad still looks hurt. I need to see if I can find something to put on it. He is curled up beside me. He isn't licking it or anything.
