Pink Cashmere I was born mid sixties, so a little older than you. I remember white flight well, but I didn't understand it until I was older. When I was in first or second grade, I got "bussed". That was the term, although I walked to school number one and then to school number two. That was when it started, as I remember it. The neighborhood Graceland is in is literally called whitehaven. Doesn't take any imagination at all to figure that one out. White flight was a very real thing. I don't live there any more, so maybe it still is but I sure hope not. I may or not delete this post later, but my house is in Whitehaven. I do not believe that was just a random name chosen for what was a suburb of the city many decades ago. That’s all imma say on that for now. In my former life as a real estate attorney I came across deed restrictions in a few certain developments in a village near me. this village is the home of a major power generator and 3 very factories important in building US infrastructure. After WWII this place had a housing boom as the factories ramped up. The deed restrictions specifically excluded black people from living there. Most of the buyers also had mortgages from a federal program for soldiers. basically what I’m trying to say and I’m saying it badly, is that federal policies encouraged white flight.

I think the only present my 22 year old is getting from me this year is Legos!
I scored a great deal on a Chromebook I've been following for Carrot at an early Black Friday sale, that and a record player for him are the only gifts I've bought at all so far. I just loathe shopping.
Interesting you’re buying Carrot a record player. Thought only hip young guys used them - but guess Carrot IS a hip young guy What kind of records does he play? YDS left a lot of 80s 90 s vinyl records here and I sold them for good prices. When I tried selling my jazz records, no interest in jazz greats like Mikes Davis John Coltrane etc My step son got me a record player for my birthday. At first I was kind of confused that he even knew what records were but we ended up loving it!

I'm confused that the young want vinyl again seeing as they have so many more convenient options to play/store music. I can see if you already have records wanting to keep being able to play them, but he doesn't...well...save for the one he bought in hopes of eventually having something to play it on.
Had I known I would have never sold the probably 100 or so of them I had from the 80's at a garage sale 20 years ago. I have twice as many CDs and handed them over to him, but he still wants to go to vinyl. I should introduce him to 8 tracks!

The quality of sound on a vinyl is completely different. I like it too - even though digital music is everywhere.
