I don’t live “in town” now. Moving even further away from the city, costs more than living in or closer than the city. And now that I had reason to write that, that doesn’t really make sense on the surface. I wrote and deleted a long post explaining some things, But the short story is that I swear ‘fore cheese and crackers that I am not trying to dismiss any of the suggestions about where I could maybe move to. Even though I realize that I might have to give up some things I’d prefer to have, there are also some things that I know I’d be miserable with. But not living “in town” is not one of those things. I actually prefer not to live “in town”, but I’d like to be close enough to take advantage of the benefits of living a hour or less away from a big city. The median house price for your city is $179,900. This means that half are less than that. I don’t know the neighborhoods or where you would like to live but there are small homes that appear decent starting around $75k. You couldn't even get a dog house here for $75k.

Oh dear! I came back here to say that I just realized that I have to share a bed with Mister tonight because Kiddo is here. Let me hurry up and try to go to sleep.

Good morning, engaged invisipeeps, pondering the future. Welcome to Saturday. I hope your day is sweet and breezy and happy, as a Saturday ought to be. I hope your plans for the day are met and that there is pie. I'm sitting in bed after yet another fit of coughing. In a few minutes I'm going to get dressed and begin loading the car in the rain. Ugh. I was thinking of just walking home after the booth is set up, but the rain makes that a hard choice. I guess I'll drive. Really tired of coughing, despite all the cough suppressants I've taken. I need the prescription stuff. This was yesterday's pre-dawn:

Today's goal is to get the recliner/reading chair where it belongs. I don't get to use it very much, because my elderly cat Chloe likes to sleep in it all day. She has been judging me about it's current placement. Daily. She's also mad that it's not the same recliner. She's going to have to get over that. The old one is at the landfill.

I went to spread manure and discovered a flat tire on the tractor. I thought maybe I'd just try to pump it up and see if it held, but even driving super slow to the garage where the pump is the valve stem got pulled in and I can't get to it. I have it up on a jack to take it off to take in somewhere and wouldn't you know it, I don't have a freaking socket that reaches to get the nut off the wheel weights. I have a 19, but I need a DEEP 19. So freaking annoying. So now, once again, I've set aside a project until I can borrow a tool from somebody. Glad I parked it sort of out of the way.

I have the whole day available to get things done that need doing, lol. Didn't sign up for any Meetup activities. I recently realized that going out every weekend day was a sort of escape from responsibilities and reality. Not that I'm going to stop going out, but I'm going to be more selective.
Today I have to clean, start working on my luggage for vacation, do laundry, and do grocery shopping. Tomorrow is my birthday. I like to bake my own cake, but let's see if I have time for it. If not, I may bake it tomorrow morning.

Spent many weekends with my stepdad helping him on cars and then ran machines in factories before moving to the office in 2007. My biggest problem is physical limitations. I know what I need to do to fix a lot of things, but sheer brute force is needed a lot...that and lack of proper tools!

You can't get a crappy 700 sq ft for that here. One day I was looking around for kicks to see what kind of prices I was looking at if I had gotten a small house since it's just me. They weren't cheap!

You sound like my dad. Multiple socket sets and never has the one he needs. I shot myself in the foot getting him that Craftsman socket set 20+ years ago now. He is still using it. I haven't known what to get him for Christmas ever since. Stupid lifetime warranties and good quality tools.

Drinking a gingerbread chai latte wearing the softest Christmas sweater I've ever had that I just bought at a craft fair.
Good way to close the stress loop of this week.

Finishing getting ready to leave for vacation. Our flight isn’t until 4:30 so plenty of time to not feel rushed. And yet, I bet we still are rushing out the door just barely on time, lol. It’s fine, I told DH we need to leave a full hour before absolutely necessary Mostly, I’m just antsy and excited for a full week off work.

Had a blast at the turkey dinner packaging event. About 150 volunteers including tons of law enforcement officers and their families to bag up 2000 frozen turkeys with dressing mix and canned veggies for distribution across the county. Standing on concrete for 3 hours was tough, but got to see many folks from various community groups I've worked with. I guarantee the mall which donated the huge workspace we used is the safest place in town today as several hundred off-duty police officers are there.

I think I'm almost done with st. Nicks. I need to return a few things to walmart. DD1 has declared she is *done* with getting toys for presents. Because, you know, she is a 17 year old now. I'll pick up bath things for the missy and I think we will be all set, except for two things I can outsource to DH. DD1 requested new washcloths, and even picked out the yarn. I have one half done. Perhaps I can finish it. I have like 0 interest in knitting, though. I am hoping I can get to the hallmark store to get ornaments, and then I'm a good way through Christmas shopping, too. I don't want to buy too much ahead, because I don't know what the sales will be, and I don't want to wait until the last minute.

I need to request ideas for gifts for the 3 littles. J's parents send me direct links to the items of clothes for him. However, I'm sure they don't want me to order until the Canada Post strike is over.
I am worried about the baby girl. Still not keeping food down. Hard to grow without much nourishment.

I almost certainly do have bronchitis again. It stinks. I first developed bronchitis after choking on ocean water, because I am a freak. Since then I get it every 3 years, without fail. Hope you get better soon.

Pink Cashmere After retirement, so you still need to live right in town? Maybe move to a more outlying area, but close enough to commute in for healthcare and big city stuff. I actually prefer not to live “in town”, but I’d like to be close enough to take advantage of the benefits of living a hour or less away from a big city. I almost quoted on cooper88 's post first. I know you do not live in town, but you also have issues with living in the "country'. But how long will it be before you can't drive yourself an hour to a doctors appt, or take days off for it? Who does it then? I'm a half an hour from town, there is no grocery delivery, food delivery, or Uber here. I am faced with this over DH's foot issues and evaluating my own choices as well.

I scored a great deal on a Chromebook I've been following for Carrot at an early Black Friday sale, that and a record player for him are the only gifts I've bought at all so far. I just loathe shopping.

Finally sitting down for a while. I have been unpacking and cleaning all morning. Once my bathroom floor dries I'm going to mop the hallway bathroom and be done for now. The smelly giraffe room smells like bleach and pinesol now!
Then I'll have to go wash the stink off myself. I'm supposed to go to my cousin's this afternoon and I still have to go to the store. My sister is supposed to come soon and help me get the shelf downstairs so I can fill it with the crap that was in the giraffe room. This house is finally starting to come together.

I've been nailing down the Christmas list. Dh bought ds a tablet for sheet music.
Dc changed their mind about ear piercing and bunnies are taking forever so I am going to have to scramble for their birthday gift. But that kid still gives a nice long paper wish list, and links to things they want.

I've decided that the giraffe room is going to be a twin room for now. I'll reevaluate after I furnish the bedroom in the front of the house. I just spent too long trying to figure out how to unfold a crate I've (un)folded a million times before. I was scratching the floor and getting frustrated so I'm assigning that task to the kids this next weekend when they come over. I give up.

DD always has and maintains a painstakingly organized and prioritized wish list. For DS, 30, I'm at a loss. He's a minimalist and mostly gets himslef things he really wants. Any suggestions?

Didn't he move to a new city last year? Since "stuff" isn't his thing, what about experiences? Is there any sort of venue - museum, concert series, golf course, zoo, culinary classes, art classes - that he might enjoy a season's subscription to?
