that's what I'm saying - if they don't have value until after they are activated, what's getting drained? They get the numbers ahead of time and then once it's activated drain them before they're used. I don't know how they know they've been activated...if I remember right there are bots just constantly running the combos until they hit. That’s what I read too. They go to the store, take a bunch of gift card off the shelf, scan their numbers and promptly return them back on the shelves. They run bots on the computer constantly so as soon as one of those cards gets bought by unsuspecting person and $ is loaded, they get a hit on their bots, and use it or empty it somehow as having the initial numbers, they have access to those funds. My stores nowadays don’t have gift cards on the shelves any more so you need to tell the cashier you want one and they need to go get it from wherever they keep them locked up. That has been safer definitely!

The gift cards at the store usually have a four-digit PIN that is hidden until someone scratches it off. They must have a computer program where random four-digit numbers are run against the gift card numbers and when there's a hit, they just wait for someone to activate the card.

We always used to say at work, whenever someone was arrested for an elaborate scam, that if they only put their minds toward lawful purposes they could be amazingly successful.

I was told to carefully check the scratch off area because they're good at getting the info they need with only minor tampering. But yeah, a software bot could just keep running random number combos too.

I stopped doing gift cards. I either send money electronically or hand over cash. That way they can spend it on whatever they want.

That has been safer definitely! That is kind of what happens here at Costco except that you pay for a piece of cardboard and then you have to go pick the giftcard up yourself. I thought that was to reduce theft (as the cards are preloaded) but never thought about anyone stealing the numbers

Tree guy is finally coming tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to handing over the money, but at least I'll know branches aren't going to fall on anything or anyone.

So I just got an email from FEMA that they approved an emergency payment of $770. I'll probably get it tomorrow or the next day. They already paid out everything else, so I'm not sure what this is for (their explanation is sorely lacking). I am still in awe of how quickly this was processed and paid.
Anyhow, back to cleaning. The weather is pretty today so I decided to tackle the debris that is right up against the house. It's all wet and mucky, so I'll have an extra long shower later this afternoon. It also smells awful. There is really no telling what all it's contaminated with. They're giving free tetanus shots on Saturday for anyone involved in cleanup, so I think I'll run down and take advantage of that. Hopefully I can get my flu shot also.

I've kept busy today with more work on the book along with personal bookkeeping. I made an appointment to chat with our financial advisor the first week of December so I need to sketch out my questions for him. I know he won't have an specific answers at this juncture, but I'm interested in his insights about legislation next year and how it will impact our financial strategies.

It was a brief getting a feel for me. They liked what they heard apparently but five minutes ago I got an email to interview with the hiring manager here in Omaha. I take that as hopefully a good sign. I think already being in Omaha might give me an edge. They are based in NYC most people are not going to be interested in relocating here of all places. They like I've spent my life in labs and I'm interested in working there because their philosophy aligns with mine.

So two FEMA inspectors just showed up to document the damage. I'm like, dude, thanks, but you guys already paid my claim and everything. They were shocked it had already been paid.

Hearing was rescheduled for tomorrow, online case docket says TFW is in medical lockdown. Not sure what conclusions to draw from that...caught a bug, tried to harm herself,...

Hearing was rescheduled for tomorrow, online case docket says TFW is in medical lockdown. Not sure what conclusions to draw from that...caught a bug, tried to harm herself,... Google says it’s likely due to contagious disease. It has my understanding from younger years that when an inmate tries to or threatens to harm themself, they are placed under what’s called “suicide watch”. In my early 20’s (before my current job) a younger coworker’s best friend was killed during a disagreement with the first coworker’s child’s father. The best friends actually both worked with me and they were more like sisters than best friends. The one that died, was just sitting in the car waiting for her best friend to get her baby from the baby’s father when he came outside acting a fool. The Mom was arrested because police found a BUTTERKNIFE wedged in the backseat of her car, and decided she’d planned to cause trouble when she went to pick up her baby. Her friend had been shot in the shoulder, but the bullet traveled inside her body and she died a few hours later. When the Mom found out while she was in jail, that her best friend had died, she was so hysterical, feeling like it was her fault her best friend died, that she was put on suicide watch. That’s the first, but not the only time, I’ve heard of those situations being called “suicide watch”.

Just read on Quora, that described several kinds of lockdowns, that medical lockdown is for contagious disease or injury. Have no idea if injury includes self harm.

Something I’m going to ask Mister about when he gets home…. I’ve noticed that when YD leaves, except for on weekends, there is always a corner of a sheet or blanket or whatever it is, hanging out in the hallway from underneath her door on the side where the doorknob is. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago, and it’s not there when she’s here and in her bedroom with the door closed.
I am really just curious about what that’s about, given the consistent timing when it’s like that. And I want to know what Mister thinks or knows it means.
I’m not sure what to think myself. I know some teens stuff towels around the bottom of their bedroom door if they are smoking weed or something in their bedrooms, but I don’t recall leaving part of the cloth hanging out of the door when they leave home. Last summer when I got up one morning, the common area end of my house and the garage was so funky with skunk smell, which smelled to me like the funky ass weed young people smoke these days, it just so happened that within a week before that, Mrs. T had told me there was a skunk somewhere around our houses, and a couple days after, DS and I were walking along a trail near a river and both smelled something. At the same time I said “somebody is smoking weed”, DS said “there’s a skunk somewhere nearby”. I’d never smelled a skunk and DS told me that’s why some people call certain kinds of weed “skunk”, because that’s what it smells like.
If not for those 2 things just days before I smelled it in my house and it was so strong in the garage, I would’ve swore YD had been smoking weed. So I was very glad that the conversations made me think something different instead of accusing YD. But there have been several times since then that I’ve smelled that same smell in my house, but not as strong, and not at all in the garage. I haven’t mentioned it to Mister and I’m only mentioning it here now, because of my original question in my post.
But even that doesn’t explain the effort to leave part of the sheet or blanket closed up in the door and hanging out into the hall when she leaves the house.
Any ideas about what that might be about?

That's my first thought too - that it's a way to tell if any one has been in her room. It sounds to me like she doesn't trust her housemates. That makes me wonder what she does and goes through when home alone.
