The only lucky thing about this house is that the swllers needed to move after 10/14. I was hoping to have more time to work on it before I move. It needs a really good cleaning. You can smell their dog when you walk in. It's nit overpowering or anything, but I won't live in a stinky house. I also need to get some rooms painted and some outlets replaced. There is one small area where the fence isn't complete. They have chicken wire there instead and that's not going to contain the twins. I'd hoped to have 30 days to do everything. I'm instead going to have 10. ETA: My lease is up at the end of October, hence the time constraints. Will the sellers allow you to fix the fence before they move out?

Thank you for the birthday messages.
My birthday is in November. I'm just trying to think ahead and do something nice for myself.
I never do anything for my birthday. I want to change that.
But thank you.

No. I don't want to do that. I'm not trying to pay for both. I'll just prioritize and do what needs to be done. First thing will be the fence so I can keep the twins there while we paint. My cousin will have to come the next weekend so he can replace the outlets and replace a wire on the breaker box. Meanwhile my dad, uncle and myself will paint. Priority will be my BR, the kitchen and dining room. I probably won't mess with the upstairs bedroom since it will just be an office, and I'm fine with the Grey walls. The loud colored BRs will be last since those rooms will sit empty for a little while until I buy more furniture. Good for you, wanting to paint the kitchen. That green color doesn't flow with the rest of the house. It really doesn't. I don't know who thought that was a good idea.

Plus I don't think I can make changes to a house I don't own. It's an easy fix. I just wanted more time to get it done.

I went out today and bought a gorgeous white Calvin Kline shirt with black accents. $6.00 I'll wear it to my sister's Thanksgiving bash, if I'm not in the hospital. Also picked up 2 of those marvelous, buttery croissants at the pastry shop. I wish I could buy more, but they're only good on the day they're baked.

The 50+ trip today got off to a delayed start but our hero bus driver made up for lost time and we were at the museum by 10. The museum was truly awesome and our tour guide was one of the founders, a retired chemistry professor. I am not a military buff by any stretch of the imagination but as we toured the incredible collection of armament, vehicles, planes, uniforms and more she truly made both World Wars and the Vietnam War come alive in a way that brought both tears and laughter to the whole group. All the tanks actually work and on Veterans Day they drive them out of the hangar and fire them (dud rounds, of course). Oh, and we were accompanied throughout the tour by the docent's Corgi who decided to acknowledge my presence by falling down in front of me for a tummy rub.
Then we had lunch at a local sports bar with great food and service. I had boom-boom shrimp tacos and a super good gueso dip and hot tortilla chips with a lovely glass of pinot grigio. Naps were enjoyed by most as driver Steve skillfully navigated Houston rush hour traffic which starts at 2 on Friday.
Next month the group is going to the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory and Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham, Texas.

ahhh fantastic. let's all laugh at chiver. I just opened the resume file to mess with it a little in adding some more technical detail back in, for the more technical position I'm going to throw in for. I realized the file still had review comments on from a past revision.....and that's the file I used to apply for the fully remote lateral move last night. guess I can kiss that one good bye.

chiver78 , it's possible the comments won't even be noticed. in the margin? doubtful. lol.... but it's quite clear from the description of my current role that it's a perfectly lateral move, so maybe it won't matter. fingers crossed either way.

I had a beautiful Antherium plant. Over the years, it's become spindly and unattractive. I cut it right down to the roots, popped the tops of the stems in water to grow new roots and tossed the mother plant on the balcony. Well, the mother plant sent out new shoots and leaves, and is looking beautiful. I'm running out places to put plants and running out of flower poots.

I have some green-only plants that I grabbed from an old employer office when they were cutting costs and the plants were just getting pitched. that was at least 15y ago and they are still doing well.

DH went out to lock the gate and came back in asking me to come see something "amazing and beautiful." Which it was, a male polyphemus moth, about 6 inches wide. He looks just like a large brown leaf with two eye spots on his hind wings. He is obviously at the end of his one-week lifespan, so we can only hope he found a mate during that time. It's the first one we've seen here, and I somehow find meaning in it, perhaps a good omen for us.

Hera, the damn expensive cat, had a recheck today. Right ear is clear, left ear is worse. So they gave her some sort of long-lasting stuff to help it out and I gave them her meth pill for today since her new stuff isn't here yet. She showed them why neither of us likes pilling her. At least they know I wasn't kidding. Took at least 2, if not 3, people to get it in her. Mwahahaha. I feel vindicated!

I hoped it was just resting, but alas it was not.

At the beginning of my pilling my very first cat, Benjamin, he was horrible to pill and worse than horrible at the vet. On his file, they had a sticker that said "Careful". I was flying to Iowa for Christmas. The vet tech ran a boarding facility so I boarded Benjamin and his sister while I was gone. When I returned, I was told they couldn't get the pills in him. I could have saved myself the boarding fee. Benjamin has several UTI's every year. We finally reached an agreement and he would let me pill him. He was never easy to handle at the vet.

I have a monster spider plant which is always putting out babies. Some fall off, so I have way too many spiders rooting in water and many in pots The plant is always blooming with little white flowers so it must be happy. I'll see if Simon and Melody want some.

There are several pet sitting sites that you can hire people now. Rover.com is where I got work and I know there is a cat only one. I'm sure there are Canada only ones too. Maybe check with your vet. My sister got all her pet sitting jobs from clients at the vet office.

My birthday is November 24. All this talk about cats reminded me I have to make a reservation to board my two when I travel in December.

I finally got the ball rolling on transferring my old 401K from TRowePrice to my Fidelity Trad. IRA. Thank you ken a.k.a OMK for the advice to make sure they do a direct transfer, with no money distributed to me at this time. First I called Fidelity, they transferred me from one person to another a couple of times. Then they gave me the information I have to give TRowe so they can send the money. So I called TRowe right away and they said the transfer will take approx. a week. The money should be there by next Friday. When I was talking to Fidelity, the guy on the phone said there are several types of target date funds, and the one I have is quite expensive, and it charges .7. He said once my balance is transferred, it will cost me $3,000 a year in the fund I have it now. He scheduled an appointment for me to talk to someone in a couple of weeks. He said they can get my cost to go down to as low as $400, and that we will just discuss options, I don't have to make a decision right away. What do you guys think? I'm a little wary about advisors, people trying to manage my money, etc. But if it's true that I will be paying $3,000 and I can bring it down to $400. I can just take the call, listen, and then take my time to make a decision.

My neighbor has been in VT all summer and got back at the end of August. I was finally able to have her over for dinner on Sunday. She brought back maple goodies for me! One was this stuff: Maple sprinklesI just topped my salted caramel ice cream with it.
