I can't explain the difference between a hard-sided and soft-sided cat carrier either but the soft-sided also worked for us with a big cat (16-20 lbs). Somehow he felt better/safer in it.

Had a good time at the reunion, hubs did too as he knows a few of my classmates, guys. And he teases the women, so they like him too.
The food was very good as was the entertainment. We are going to the one in the other small town tomorrow night. On of my classmates who was a retired chemist had been very active in politics after retirement. Hubs and he and another classmate had a great time discussing candidates. He is getting out of it now as they are getting threats and violence toward his party in that area. So sad as I'm sure he was a great asset.
Tomorrow night will be tacos so good also. Glad I came.
Today I vacced in here. Tomorrow going to use Bona and clean the hardwood and then mop the tile. Cleaning toilets and such, hubs got the stuff in the garage ready to take or in the trash so we did have some things to do. We have to clean coon poop off the front porch and in front of the garage door, yuck.
The wind here is really blowing. We came up across a tree over the road on the way home and had to divert down a side street. I heard east of here much worse and this is clear up in Indiana.

ahhh fantastic. let's all laugh at chiver. I just opened the resume file to mess with it a little in adding some more technical detail back in, for the more technical position I'm going to throw in for. I realized the file still had review comments on from a past revision.....and that's the file I used to apply for the fully remote lateral move last night. guess I can kiss that one good bye. Not quite the same. I took a second job interview last summer. It was a disaster. My mom was calling non-stop during the interview (essentially just to harass me because she could), I thought my computer was charging, and 30 minutes in, my computer flashes that I need power. Like now. So, I'm in the middle of answering a question, and I had to excuse myself and say "I'm sorry, I have to plug my computer in." I was the second choice for that. The person they gave the job to had 20% experience I didn't (and never would). That's why they got the job. There were like 70 applicants. I thought all was lost. I cried after. I think that was just like a moment of humanity.

I found the old Milton Bradely game Bed Bugs at the thrift store.
I always wanted it.
It's as fun as I imagined. The kids are entertained too.

Some areas got some nasty flooding due to high tide/high wind combination. Worse luck and it always happens. My place is ok, never even lost power. The hotel we all stayed at didn’t lose power, either. A lot of people got flooded and are still without power. Half dozen people dead from refusing to evacuate. I get evacuating is a pita and I don’t like it, either, but when death is the alternative it seems the lesser of two evils. Anyway, glad to be back home and in my own bed. So glad to know you are safe. Thanks for checking in.

That's a problem for me to. I told hubs I have painted that house inside 20 times, fixed light fixtures outside, and on and on. It drives me crazy. Same when I worked, projects ran through my mind keeping me awake. Though I must admit many a morning I got up with answers to problems that came to me in the night.
Going to read a bit and go to sleep.

Good morning, good and able invisipeeps of Y Ma'am. Welcome to Saturday. I hope on this day you are safe from storms and that you have time and means to rest, relax and peace out. I got the car loaded up last night for the show today. It turns out it's only 30 minutes away if that; I thought it was an hour. So we don't have to leave until 5:30 to set up the tent, tables and our wares. The town where this is held also has a car show going on during the festival and ends the day with fireworks over the beach. It's a big fundraiser for the firefighters. The weather here promises to be mild with only small winds. Yesterday I prepared prints for the show, matting them and framing a few, and also cleaned the house and did laundry. I love the feel of clean sheets. And I roasted a fantastic pork tenderloin for dinner. So I feel much more put together than I usually do right before a show. The morning yesterday was again heavily overcast, but the sun did lighten the sky:

My brain is usually pretty happy to shut off whenever. I think that's it's default setting. 🤣 I read for about 15 minutes and was out cold.

Wow! Catastrophic flooding throughout our region, including west NC and SW VA. A red alert for evacuations for a major dam went out at 12:30 last night. Miles of I40 and I26 are closed, and somewhere in NC a section of I 40 is washed out. A hospital had to have rooftop evacuation due stunningly rapid rising of flood waters.
We are not directly impacted.

Surprised when I landed and it was not raining at all - the radar showed they took a very sharp turn to the coast.

Work life took a very unexpected turn mid day yesterday. Overall a good one, but very hectic and frenzied for the end of the year. I am very much in the spotlight, in a good way, for the next couple of months but focus has shifted to a different facility where I will be working a lot with a VP (who messaged me and said when saw what they had going on his first thought was we have to get "my name" here).
So the rest of my year will be spent between PA and MA. I have MA covered, but if anyone has any recommendations for fun or food near Mechanicsburg PA please PM me!
I will driving 4 hours to PA, so podcast recs are also appreciated.
ETA - Brazil will now be early 2025.

My birthday is November 24. All this talk about cats reminded me I have to make a reservation to board my two when I travel in December. Mine is November 25th.

DD1 told me she loved me before bed last night. She must really be feeling good about life. That never happens. (To DH, either).
I don't know how people can get away with not planning/scheduling ahead in life.
We have a lot going on next weekend, and in all of october. I'm really stressed that we don't have it all ironed out.

Sushi was like that when he was at the vet. Nobody could get him back in his carrier. It took three people to get him in. Simon and I lost a lot of blood when we tried to put him in. We replaced the hard plastic carrier with a soft-sided one with mesh 'windows'. Now I can do it alone. Piece of cake. At one point, the vet took the hard carrier apart, put him in the bottom, and rebuilt the carrier around him. They tried with mesh anti-bite gloves, everything. He wasn't having it. The soft carrier made all the difference in the world. Care to explain how the soft sided carrier makes a difference? I have the same problem with Michi, I have to chase him all over the house to get him in the carrier. I will switch to a soft sided one if that makes it easier to get him in. For me the difference is the soft sided carrier unzips at the top, so I can pick him up and just set him straight down into the carrier and zip it shut. With the hard carrier it was impossible to get him in through the side entrance, and if I took the top off to put him in from the top he would escape while I was trying to get the top back on.

It's been raining here all week. And that is without getting any hurricane remnants since it went west instead of going all the way up the east coast. I've had an awful headache since last night. Whatever pressure system is causing this can move along. It's also stupid humid out. I need the Advil to kick in so I can be productive today. I rested yesterday afternoon after two rough appointments.

9am and I'm already beat. After I dropped Carrot off I walked the lake (5 miles) and went grocery shopping. After I got home, I did barn chores and made a batch of cheesy potatoes to throw in the oven tomorrow for a pot luck party. Now I'm contemplating just watching a movie until the grass dries up enough to mow. I did really enjoy walking that early in the morning. It was nice and cool and everyone I bumped into was cheerful (weird morning people out before dawn). A flashlight would have come in handy occasionally, but for the most part I could see.

I just ate a salted caramel cheesecake donut from Krispy Creme.
Holy cow is that a good donut. I'm glad I only got two I could see myself dying thanks to eating a full dozen.

DH threw his back out and is being pissy with me this morning. So my plans for today are going to include all the errands I can think of outside the house, so he and his attitude can have some alone time.
I also do need to go to the mall to find some sort of lightweight long sleeve black shirt for an upcoming work event. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised, but my experience is that when I need something specific, I can never find it.

Contemplating an updated wfh wardrobe. This place is heavy camera time for meetings and I'll go up to the office a bit.
More importantly is updating my office background. I really want shelves with plants. Lots and lots of plants and full spectrum lights.
