I'm having a FOMO attack on the not spending wisely issue. I don't qualify for a payment this time so there is nothing to spend, wisely or not. Now I could just unwisely spend part of my salary but there is nother I either want or need. So, no spending and FOMO... Which dictionary ‘FOMO’ is to be found? I am afraid to look up at Urban because it’ll be most likely sexually explicit...

Gwen asked if she got hers. I laughed.I did buy a proper art desk for her which was $150. That's also for me so I can finally be rid of the plywood monstrosity that was bought when I was in college. She hoarded it and DH let her when I first attempted to be rid of it by buying DH a new desk. Glad to hear it's not just my house. I was a little stunned. I'm not sure I would have heard about a stimulus at that age, and I definitely wouldn't have asked my parents for mine. Their world is so different from ours. I have to say this makes ne desperately curious what my kids would buy if they got that amount of money just dumped in their lap.

No idea what my 4yo would choose, but my 8yo would pick Legos, HP stuff, maybe some Badogans, and he’d try to convince to he could buy an iPhone - and then I’d have to laugh and tell him no. Ooh, and his friends all have Nintendo Switch game systems, so probably that as well.

My coworker is really into those fancy sets and has a shop set up in his garage where he builds them....think Star Wars, movie sets, etc. He spent $900 on one set! If he had gotten a stimulus check (he makes too much money), I have no doubt he would have spent it on Legos, lol!

Gwen said she would maybe spend $400 of it and then put the rest away. Abby has no concept of the value of money (she knows how much things cost but not how much money $1400 actually is) so doesn't have an answer. I like that my kid is boring like me.

The first $3,000 will go toward DD's hospital bill. After that who knows? I liked to spend like crazy, but DH is a saver (party pooper). What does it mean ‘first’ $3000? Aren’t we getting $1400 per person as one time deal? With me, DH, DD, & DS we received $5600 total. All of which came to DH and I as the kids are both in college with us still claiming and supporting them.

I gave my college kids theirs. They both stuck theirs in long term savings. I spent ours but I couldn’t say where. Just went in the pool and I made decisions from there.

MPL - for a college student with tuition handled, I'd be tempted to earmark it for a future vehicle. Good thing I didn't just hand it over. It looks like it might go towards retaking Calc 2 this summer.

I was a little worried about barely passing and going on to Calc 3, but he claims everyone says this is the hardest of the four...or at least very different. I wouldn't know, I bailed after Calc 1. He's going to his Dad's tomorrow and having him help him. His dad was a math major/teacher before he jumped ship for computers. I reminded him of this and he's like "oh yeah...I forgot about that!".

Calc 2 was brutal. Calc 3 was way better. I got a 46% on my first exam in that class and it was a B-.

Yep, calc 3 is easier. I'm not familiar with a 4 part series. I did diff eq next and it kicked my butt bc it was too physical/sciency and I didn't get that portion of the stem gene. Instead I write pretty well and finished a Spanish major... I'm a weird duck.
A C with two months left can be brought up. Hang in there mama!

Yeah, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations is his 4th math class. My non-math brain was just calling it Calc 4. He loves Physics math, but is hating Calc 2 so much. He is kicking himself for not taking Calc BC in high school and testing out of both of them and just starting with 3. He took AP Calc and got a 5 on the test, but still started with Calc 1 in college for a review.

First thing: the IRS has finally decided that I'm worthy, and the $1400 deposit is pending for April 7.
Next thing: I didn't know there was something called linear algebra. I've heard of differential equations. I do everything in my head by twos and tens, adding or subtracting the odd numbers as needed. Now you know why I never bothered to finish my degree. I was born minus the math gene.

And this conversation reinforces I never stood a chance of becoming an engineer. I got a C minus and barely that in Intro to Calculus. Rug came and I'm very happy with it. It's machine washable which is important with kids and a dog. Price included the mat so the floor underneath is protected. Art desk also arrived but we don't have it put together yet. It was a good deal and customer service was awesome. Think I'll be getting Gwen's stuff from Blick from now on. There is an independent owned store in Omaha so I can support local at the same time.

My new desk is to be delivered and set up on Wednesday afternoon. That was what I planned to spend my stimulus on.
Now I am buying a security system. Oh well.

Does he have access to his college kids who can tutor him via zoom - its much easier to have someone explain it to him that has worked on it recently. Good luck

Next thing: I didn't know there was something called linear algebra. I've heard of differential equations. Ah, Linear Algebra. I enjoyed that even though I had to work y brain really hard to get it. The Elementary Ed majors had to take a math sequence and they could either take Baby Calculus (a slowed-down version that didn't count for Math majors) or Linear Algebra. Many decided the words "algebra" was less scary than the word "calculus" so they took Linear Algebra. They all disappeared. It has to do with math operations of matrices, which are a set of numbers arranged in rows and columns in brackets. It's got some practical applications. My only D was in Advanced Calculus. I worked darn hard for that D.

Since my 21 year old was still my dependent most of last year I received money for her. So I put my 21 yo stimulus in her Roth IRA. The money for my 17 yo will be going towards having her wisdom teeth removed (necessary), replacing her retainer (necessary), and getting teeth whitening trays (unnecessary because her teeth look very white to me, but she really wants them so I will t consider it stimulating the economy). Mine is earmarked for vacation eventually.

I'm going to open stock accts. for both of my grands. Then it's up to them to handle the accts. I just want to be able to see what they do with them & maybe contribute more funds every once in awhile. My DGS is all into investing & so far he has done well with less than $500 to invest...he's had a 65% increase for last year.

Now you know why I never bothered to finish my degree. I was born minus the math gene. Unless you're a math or engineering major you likely would never have to go beyond Calc 1 in college, if that, and even then there are watered down versions for non-science and engineering majors at a lot of colleges. I just had to take Calc 1 for my Biology degree. I got two C's in college and that was one of em'!
