If there had been a secret ballot, it almost certainly would have been overwhelming in favor of conviction. All this shows, again, is that there is very little courage, honor, or integrity remaining in the Republican Party.

I've said it before if anyone is the antichrist it's Mitch McConnell not Trump.

And there's Moscow Mitch panning trump, reciting chapter and verse his sins, yet he voted to acquit. As tallguy said, there's very little courage, honor, or integrity remaining in the Republic party.

Wonder if his vision will include a beautiful health care plan, middle class tax cut, and $200 Medicare cards?

Wonder if his vision will include a beautiful health care plan, middle class tax cut, and $200 Medicare cards? Not in his plans even a little bit. Seriously, he is looking up his next steps in Hitler's handbook. It's really an odd feeling to watch this keep going forward and the inexplicable inability to put a stop to it.

It looks like you have a 14th amendment which may work to keep Trump from running again.
"No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

I don’t think so, he was acquitted of insurrection, therefore he would be eligible to run for office again. That was a major purpose of the trial, to convict so that he would be barred from ever holding a federal office again.

The sketch, SNL’s first political cold open since Trump left office last month, took a turn when Beck Bennett appeared as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). “Everyone knows you cannot impeach a former president,” he said. “That’s why we should have impeached him before, back when I said we couldn’t.” “Well, that logic pretzels out, but what do you really think of Trump?” Carlson asked. “I think he’s guilty as hell. And the worst person I ever met.” McConnell said, adding that he hoped “every county, city and state locks” Trump up. Then, taking a deep breath, he added: “Oh god, that felt good! I’ve been holding that inside my neck for four years!” www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/snl-s-cold-open-mocks-trump-s-impeachment-acquittal-and-senate-republicans/ar-BB1dF8oK?ocid=msedgntpOur country has turned into a SNL skit!

They can choose to use the 14th amendment even if they didn’t pass the threshold for conviction, as 14th would be legislation and vote that were only simple majority. Make no mistake, McConnell is trying to walk the line to keep Trumps base and corporate funding. He also does not want Trump to maintain party hold. Where things fall will depend on how those lines hold. He is a master manipulator.

This sums up the way I see it. McConnell’s choice is emblematic of the GOP’s rot. Republicans claim to fight for fidelity to the Constitution, traditional morality, law and order, economic liberty, fiscal responsibility, etc. As a conservative, I believe these are things worth fighting for. But most Republicans today don’t see these as principles to stand for, they see them as slogans to campaign on. That is the only way to reconcile their sloganeering with their slavish support for Donald Trump — a thrice-married, admitted sexual predator who, as president, lavished praise on dictators, imposed tariffs with drunken abandon, tried to steal an election so brazenly he was impeached twice and set in motion a multi-pronged anti-constitutional assault on Congress and democracy that left dead cops in its wake and the impeachment clause of the Constitution a dead letter. Graham, who sanctimoniously spouts conservative campaign slogans so unctuously he’s left indelible grease stains in TV studios all around Washington, admitted on "Fox News Sunday" what his top priority actually is: “I’m into winning.”
Recall, on Jan. 7, before he was intimidated by the MAGA movement he once again champions, Graham blamed Trump for the Capitol attack. He now blames the police for not killing more Trump supporters and he blames House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) — whom some of those supporters wanted to kill — for not being better prepared for Trump’s mob. Graham personifies political cowardice. Whether cowardice can lead to “winning” remains to be seen. And whether such winning is worth the price the Republican Party is willing to pay, only history can answer. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/column-mcconnell-s-choice-is-emblematic-of-the-gop-s-rot/ar-BB1dG3zH?ocid=msedgntp

Trump lost them every branch. The Republican Party continues to hemorrhage. The only way they can ‘win’ is by cheating and or destroying the very republic. His arguments and rhetoric aren’t honest and shouldn’t be taken as such. A win for him is Trump not releasing what he knows for another day.

This just boggles my brain. They would have just as likely injured/killed Cruz, Graham, McConnell or any of Trump's dick suckers if they had gotten ahold of them because they were in the thralls of mob mentality. Yet they STILL defend the clown and want those people to vote for them?!
Trump truly is a cult. I can only hope that he eventually calls on them to drink the Kool aid and they do it. That's the only way to get rid of them at this point.

Mid terms are coming.

For my Mom, and her friends the Pro-Life movement was everything. They wanted to end Abortion. I told my Mom before the election that Trump was not really Pro-Life and mentioned the Executions they were rushing to complete before year end. Mike Pence has always been Pro-Life and Anti-Abortion. How this crowd will be able to reconcile this is beyond me. Trump all but put a contract out on Mike Pence's life. I don't think this crowd will support Trump a second time, and they are very likely to support Mike Pence for President (or someone else). Republicans are refusing to go against Trump, it may be a mis-calcuation. I would really like to see the whole congress negotiate some revised voting rules - who needs to present ID, and when. Who can absentee vote maybe? Who can use ballot drop boxes or early vote? and when you can be deleted from the voter rolls and how you might re-register to vote. I was very concerned that my early vote might be disqualified for a signature mis-match. If you sent your ballot in with an electronic copy of you DL like you do when you e-sign a loan - maybe the signature matching would not be necessary? While R's claim there was fraud going on, it is not like D's have no concerns that R's are not committing Fraud. I think it is clear that they will do anything to win, as long as they can get away with it. We need to make voting as accessible as possible while eliminating as much fraud as possible. There was an article in the local paper that the 3 richest people in WI had donated 88 Million to Politicians in the last two years. That is just wrong. Rich people should not have unlimited influence. If they can't limit the "corporations are people too" crap, they should at least be able to say that each "person" can only donated 5-10% of what the average voter in the US could afford to donate. www.jsonline.com/story/news/investigations/daniel-bice/2021/02/11/diane-hendricks-and-uihleins-gave-88-million-politicians/6703760002/

Interesting article. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/wall-street-journal-warns-republicans-trump-won-t-win-another-election/ar-BB1dH9atTrump’s popularity was never over 50%, and after the Dec 6th attack, it dropped to around 20% with GOP members fleeing the party. Over 60% of the American voters think he should have been impeached. Yet the state GOP parties are largely dominated by Trump. So the GOP can’t win another election without Trump, and it can’t win another election WITH Trump, either. So the GOP won’t win another election until they figure their shit out.
