The QAnon Shamon is a prime example of the kind of embarrassing far right lunatic that Trump cultivated - and even helped win elections. And now he’s realized Trump played him for a fool. Instead of pardoning him and all the other Dec 6 terrorists, Trump wished everyone a happy life, turned his back on them and flew to his Florida estate.
The GOP doesn’t need these kinds of nut jobs proclaiming how duped they were by Trump on the senate floor. It just highlights how most of the senate GOP was duped as well.

The GOP s continuing its embrace of DT. Which means they are doubling down on their support of QAnon. They should have to hear them, and really acknowledge what they think is going to help them win.

I don't think Trump and those goons are going to get upset with each other. They are all saying what they need to save their own asses. That does not offend their moral code. I believe Trump is only their leader because he is the most public figure to voice their beliefs publicly. He was just as scared of offending them as most elected Republicans, hence he would never denounce white supremacists though it would have made his life easier. He is not a cult leader in the sense that he talked them into anything, he just says what they want said and if he stops doing that they will move on.

There is no winning for most of the Republican Senators. If they vote against Trump, they become targets for Trump supporters. Even if there isn't a significant Qanon base in their state, the energy needed to deal with attacks will drain their political power. However, if they support Trump, they not only are cowards, but then they have to own their support of that belief system, which will make them a lot less palatable to sane voters.
This won't end until the people wake up from their cult induced stupor.

Publicly pledging primary election support to any Republican Senator who votes for impeachment is something I think should be happening. I did that when my very conservative representative backed off her planned vote to challenge Electoral College results on January 6th. Voting for impeachment I knew was too much of a stretch for her so had to let go of that one.

Is one of the possible verdicts "guilty by reason of insanity"? Lord knows this whole mess, starting with the donald descending from his gilded penthouse in trump tower has been nothing but bat shit crazy.

You are a better person than I am. I am lucky that my Congress people are all Democrats. I live on the under-populated side of a state with a heavy-populated side that gives us a Democratic majority for statewide votes. When I first moved to a more rural/conservative area I was a recovering political scientist with a solid seat on the wagon. Our invasion of Iraq was too big of a bump and I haven't been able to get clean since then. But I have fallen in love with other aspects of very small town life so am forced into the effort to be a "better" person.

I am starting to think that simply making the case for impeachment is the most valuable thing that can be done, here. because there is a really strong case for it. and if the Senate refuses to see it/act on it, it is really bad for the nation.
they will not be fondly remembered.
edit: that disclosure is part of this process means that this will be recorded. I was trying to express how important that was above, but was sloppy about that point.

No it is much simpler than that. The trial would force them to take a public stance on this and THEY won't be able to keep talking out of both sides of their mouth. They are afraid of their personal records plain and simple. No more "taken out of context" or "misrepresented" for them. And while they are not concerned about the long-term welfare of the country they are quite capable of long-term thinking where there own welfare is concerned

I'm pretty simple minded so this is how I see it.... If the GOP Senators vote to acquit DT, they are admitting that Qanon is now in charge of the GOP party. If they vote to convict...many have already had death threats for themselves & their families and they will likely be out of a job the next time they are up for election.
They have put themselves between a rock & hard place & won't win no matter which way they vote. If Qanon becomes the GOP, the party will die soon...one way or another.

You are making a connection of QAnon and the GOP which will be seen as overstated by many. They will move in parallel too closely for some but they won't "become" one nor be subordinate to. I hope the GOP's flirtation with QAnon will hurt them but I don't think it will be terminally fatal.

The democrats have been out maneuvered again. Lindsay Graham is in charge of the Judiciary Committee until a power sharing agreement is worked out between the R's and D's and he is apparently and is is refusing to bring Merrick Garland up for confirmation vote before the trial. Really, quit with the bipartisanship bullshit. With the Republicans the only story is My Way or the Highway. Heads I win, Tails you lose. They need to refuse to do any business until the power sharing issue is resolved. Idk if who is Attorney General will matter, but this means the Attorney General is a Trump Loyalist. I also think a 2 day trial is BS. R's are protecting their own from being exposed. Limiting the time spend on the trial will limit the parties that colluded with Trump from being exposed - and I think there were many. The capital riot was not staged in 2 days. They should spend at least 2 weeks on it. What are the Dem's thinking to agree to 2 days? www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/merrick-garland-denied-speedy-confirmation-hearing-before-impeachment-trial

Maybe we should only show the footage where we have idetentfied people, and we know they were on the "right", and they are yelling to kill Pence and McConnell.

"Former social media influencer Donald Trump will not testify at his impeachment trial next week and I think I speak for all of us when I say, come on, please?" Jost said. He continued: "Give us one last show, man! You know, stop feeling sorry for yourself, put in your extensions and burst into that trial like it's Maury Povich and you are not the father." Jost went on: "Sadly Trump is not going to be doing that, but he will be defended at the trial by the lawyers who refused to prosecute Bill Cosby and who agreed to represent Jeffrey Epstein before his death... which raises the question, what does Trump think he's being impeached for?" www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/donald-trump-urged-to-testify-in-impeachment-trial-by-snl-s-colin-jost/ar-BB1dsUd0?ocid=msedgntp
