Well, it's 12/3/2021 and the World-O-Meter is saying: 807,200 dead Americans (and the day is not over so not all the numbers are in). That's 12 days since 11/21 (my last post with a count) - so that's about 1400 deaths per day... It's kind of scary how the 1000-ish deaths per day have been so consistent since like mid October. Just a marker/update: The World-o-Meter rolled 902,000 covid19 deaths this morning (1/28/2022) That's about 100K deaths in 56 days (from when it rolled 800K). Since Dec 3, 2021 that's about 1700 deaths per day in America (if you want evenly spread out the deaths by day.)

Have you ever seen such an easy government website to use? Scary Actually the USPS website was pretty easy to navigate to begin with. And it looks like they tacked on an additional "item" to "buy" from an existing stable (often updated) website. I would have been "scared" if it had been a much more difficult experience. I really would have been scared if the government had "reinvented the wheel" by creating from scratch a completely new website.

There was a large announcement about this or last week. www.usatoday.com/story/money/shopping/2022/01/25/free-masks-government-pharmacies/9209432002/I googled this right now, but did not google yesterday. I was asking yesterday and no pharmacies in my area had them yet. I prefer getting this before the testing kits, as I would rather try to prevent catching the virus rather than checking to see I have it.

Supposedly distribution could have been as early as today, more likely Feb. With the big storm coming, I'll keep watch if I can.

My husband saw them at Meijer near his work on Wednesday, but didn't know the deal so didn't grab any. He didn't see any at Meijer near us today.

We seem to be out at my store too, which I find strange. They weren't getting grabbed up.
I grabbed my portion and am glad that I have one for myself and one for my SO. I felt quite negligent not having one or two around now that they are readily available but I just could not get myself to go searching in hardware stores.
As for the third mask, I wore it for two days. It's a nice tight fit but I couldn't say that it was comfortable. My face seems to be reacting badly to the fiber that it is made of, so it's back to the duck-bill/Darth Vadar non-medical N95 for me.

I think I saw an announcement that free masks called it PPE in the notice (ok, maybe it was free tests?? not sure what PPE meant - I didn't drill down into the notice or read the really lot of printed words) were available at the Local Library (it's across the street from a large lots of hours open Covid19 testing site. I remember the picture showing big boxes on and under and around a large table that was at the library.
I did not go to get anything. I have some masks being delivered next week. I'm also pretty much NOT out in public places or going to work - so I thinking other people probably need them more than I do right this minute.

No masks here. DH checked at Walgreens. They had none, and had no idea if their location would EVER be getting any.
We don't have any of the grocery chains here that were reported to be involved in distribution, so Walgreens is it for us.

PPE I think is personal protective equipment PMD or someone could chime in if I remembered it incorrectly. For me it has encompassed things like masks, gloves, face shields, medical gowns, etc.

the graph shows that we were near seasonal norms in June.
if everyone had gotten vaccinated and stayed masked up, we would have STAYED THERE.
300k have died for no reason other than the grotesque need to score political points, and to not follow science.
this is precisely the criticism that we USED to level against "shithole countries".
now we are one.

As expected, the top ten states are Reoublican states. States Where the Most People Are Refusing the COVID-19 VaccineAs the omicron variant continues to spread, the national vaccination effort is as urgent as it ever has been. Still, many Americans remain hesitant. According to a recent survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, 23,830,000 Americans -- or 9.6% of the 18 and older population -- say they will either probably or definitely not agree to receive the vaccination. The share of Americans who will likely refuse vaccination varies considerably nationwide, from as many as 20.5% of the adult population to as little as 3.6%, depending on the state. Many Americans who have yet to be vaccinated cite one of three reasons: either they are concerned about possible side effects, or they want to wait to see if it is safe, or it is difficult for them to obtain a vaccination. Others cite different reasons. Nationwide, 14,120,000 people, 5.7% of the adult population, do not trust the COVID-19 vaccines, and another 6,980,000, or 2.8%, do not think COVID-19 is a big threat. Additionally, 12,130,000 American adults, or 4.9% of the 18 and older population, have not been vaccinated because they do not trust the government. Meanwhile, the virus continues to spread. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 76,448,067 confirmed cases of the virus and a total of 902,189 Americans have died as a result. So far, 213,430,434 Americans -- or 65.2% of the total population -- have received the full course of vaccinations necessary to protect against COVID-19. All survey data used in this story was published by the Census on Jan. 19, 2022. All data related to COVID-19 infections, fatalities, and vaccinations is current as of Feb. 10, 2022. Article and list of states here: States Where the Most People Are Refusing the COVID-19 Vaccine

We were able to snare three free N95 masks at our local WMT yesterday. Went to pharmacy and asked about them. They said go to the grocery entrance at the other entrance and ask for them there. I get it, the pharmacy is too busy most of the time to have all the people standing in line for masks, but it seemd like that would make the sensible place to give them out. I crossed the entire store and asked an associate standing there if she had any free masks. Said yes, went over to the customer sanitation hand cleaner kiosk and unlicked the lower cabinet and grabbed three of them for us. Now I have to get used to wearing these things. So different then the blue face masks!
Should we give most of our blue masks away to someone or hang onto them? How long can we use the N95 masks before we need another one?

the CDC credits masks with driving down the seasonal flu for the last two years to near record lows (per capita).

I would keep the blue masks. Yes, they are less protection, but they are also easier to wear in warm weather. Since Covid will evolve us out of the pandemic stage, there should be a time the surgical masks are more than enough. I actually wear the blue masks most of the time when I shop if I am not in and out of the store quickly. I've been saving my N95 for longer exposures. Work recommended storing the N95 masks in brown paper bags.

I'm the same....... still got a couple of boxes of blue masks and wont be disposing of them for a while.... (because Covid is still in circulation) Have discovered some uses for them also .......... Emptying the vacuum cleaner, grooming the dogs, sweeping the pathway. As an asthmatic, these little masks are saving my lungs some dust.

the CDC credits masks with driving down the seasonal flu for the last two years to near record lows (per capita). I usually have 2-4 colds/flu every year, and at least one is a really bad bout. I have not been sick since Dec 2019. I plan to continue masking & hand sanitizing in public to help eliminate the misery of seasonal crap.

We are over a million excess deaths now. www.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/17/us-excess-deaths-pandemic-cdcI usually discuss the pandemic with my husband in terms of excess deaths. He hears at work all day about how the covid cases are exaggerated, and I keep telling him they are undercounted. But it's hard to dispute excess deaths, since they are just counting and not relying on someone's objectivity.

It would be nice if the US drops under 100K cases per day into the lower territory of 50 to 70K cases daily. I'm going to wish we hit that metric by start of March.

I, too, tend to talk "excess deaths" with the "it's all hype! yes, the Covid exists but it's not that bad a thing." people in my life. At first they were confused by this concept of "excess deaths". And then I guess they read up on it, so now when I mention "excess deaths" their response is "yeah, because people were so afraid of all the hype about the Covid they didn't got to the doctor or the hospital that whatever ailment they had killed them!" implying that the excess deaths were not from Covid19. And in other news - there's another new variant that could spread as quickly as Omicron AND appears to cause more serious illness... just lovely. And just a marker: Well, it's 12/3/2021 and the World-O-Meter is saying: 807,200 dead Americans (and the day is not over so not all the numbers are in). That's 12 days since 11/21 (my last post with a count) - so that's about 1400 deaths per day... It's kind of scary how the 1000-ish deaths per day have been so consistent since like mid October. Since Dec 3, 2021 that's about 1700 deaths per day in America (if you want evenly spread out the deaths by day.) The World-o-Meter stood at 955,497 this morning. Daily deaths are still in the 2K range...
