At work today they went around with cases of clorox wipes and placed them throughout the building. Every conference room, every restroom, on the floor by the elevator, on the floor by every door that is to remained closed for security reasons, random places in the lunchroom, random window sills, on several of the locked recycle bins, everywhere there is foam hand sanitizer on the wall there is a thing of clorox wipes on the floor below. We got an e-mail telling us that we are supposed to wipe down our desks and work area. Tomorrow's all staff meeting has been changed to a teleconference.

One of the admins put chlorox wipes by the printer. We have to insert our ID card and type in our passcode to print or scan anything. I assume someone checked if the wipes were safe for the touchscreen? It's a brand new printer and we already on number 2 because the first one was glitchy.
I have plenty of chlorox wipes at home.

At the office, someone from housekeeping comes around and wipes down the handles to the doors on each floor and the elevator buttons. I think I read they are on a 2hr schedule. they also do the doors to the bathrooms/stairwells and the service elevator bay.
A cute "Chart" appeared in the bathroom over the sinks/soap - it has song lyrics to wash your hands by (I guess so you do it long enough.)

And now they say trump did not test. So he could be spreading it around to others or maybe will be ok. I think he is thumbing his nose like this to prove that it amounts to nothing. Either that or they have pumped him full of drugs against it is why he looks so dopey. But it does not send a good message. Oh it does to his followers, just a hoax and fake news. Maybe his gamble will pay off. But people are still getting sick. ......and he won't. If he tests positive, he'll have to cancel all his rallies where he feeds off the adulation. Without the adulation, without his cultists telling him how wonderful he is, applauding every word that comes out of his lying cake-hole, he'll wither and die. It's like a Stephen King novel.

Stopped by the store today. Plenty of TP, no hand sanitizer, no sanitizing wipes
The number tested in our county yesterday was 23; today it’s 41. Still just 1 positive.
Gov Inslee said that unless this is slowed down, we could have 64,000 cases by May.
The state DAR has a conference in early May. About 150 people (majority over age 60) attend. They don’t want to cancel it; I think they are waiting for Gov Inslee to start mandatory cancellations so they won’t be blamed.

Has anyone else heard that the testing produces more false negatives early, and if you aren't showing symptoms, it is unlikely to get a positive result? Or am I confusing the rationing of tests to people with symptoms?

Local news: hospitals are running low on supplies. In some cases workers are asked to reuse masks, in other cases they are working without masks. And everyone expects more cases

How long is an infected person contagious? I may be missing it, but I cannot find any info. So, how long should a family planned to be quarantined, if needed?
There are 4 people in my home. If 1 person got sick today (March 11) and the family quarantined, what happens when the next gets sick, and then another, and another (and can it circle back around?)? If each person's symptoms show up a week apart, and assuming that it does not circle back, that would be a minimum of 6 weeks. If it can circle back, you could be talking months.

On the cruise ship, every new confirmed case restarted the 14 day quarantine.

We've moved on from stocking food and supplies to considering what we might be doing with our time if we "social distance". I want new hiking shoes. And we're checking if we have all the supplies we need to paint and do yard projects.

Satire from The Borowitz Report Betsy DeVos Says She Was Planning to Close All Schools Anyway
By Andy Borowitz WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—As an increasing number of schools and universities closed down because of the coronavirus outbreak, the Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, revealed on Monday that she had been planning for years to close every school in the country anyway. Speaking to reporters in Washington, DeVos said, “When I took over as Education Secretary, I came with a simple mission: to shut down all of the nation’s schools. It turns out that I was just ahead of my time.” Noting that schools are where students learn math, science, and history, DeVos said, “I have long believed that schools are where all the bad things happen.” Deciding to “wipe out the scourge of education once and for all,” DeVos said that, within days of taking office, she drew up an ambitious plan called No School Left Open. Complete article here: Betsy DeVos Says She Was Planning to Close All Schools Anyway

My company is getting laptops for the few remaining people using desktops. They are making sure everyone can work from home. It has been noted that our VPN server is inadequate - not sure if anyone is doing anything about that.

It has been noted that our VPN server is inadequate - not sure if anyone is doing anything about that. Same for us also. Tomorrow is the test day - everyone in the company will be working from home to see if the VPN crashes - which we suspect will happen. They were already working on a new one and this will just speed up the installation of that new VPN.

If everyone stays home, will anyone know if I do go to the office? I can have run of the place.

A question:
Anyone hearing any suggestion at their work site about special consideration for those at risk of greater impact if they are infected (e.g. over 60 or health impaired)? As a manager of a site, just thinking about seeing if I could get our larger organization to do some proactive planning. Probably more on my mind than theirs since, including myself, such a category would include 100% of our site staff.

We were told yesterday to make an appropriate decision for your individual situation. They did note that telework in excess of 2 days a week would be approved. 2 days is our current maximum.
Two offices have closed because someone was diagnosed with the virus. The stress test to the VPN is next week. Date hasn't been announced yet. They are expecting it to handle the volume.
I assume by next week my building will be shut down. A different agency than the one I work for controls this building. They were testing their VPN this week. I've heard crazy reports that people are calling their coworkers at home and threatening to harm them if they come to work. I'm expecting they close sooner rather than later to put an end to that nonsense.

If someone here has it we will be shut down completely for at minimum two weeks. We're a company of about 50 people and a really small building so if one person has it, we've all been exposed.
Hope people have vacation saved up because so far corporate has not rolled out a policy regarding pay if that should happen. I would not be shocked if we were all told if you didn't have any leave tough shit.
DH's company will also be shut down if a case is confirmed. They are allowing work from home for those that can but there aren't enough computers. They are working to fix that but if they can't anyone who doesn't have one will still get paid while the company is shut down.

Apple watch? and cell phone/tablet/laptop) at home and DO NOT drive there in your car (it knows where you go). Walk or take public transportation (use a one use ticket). Of course, if you have to card key into the office and use any network enabled computers or use an office phone they (ok, the IT people) will know you were there - so it doesn't matter if you take all your devices or drive there in your car.

Maybe have Scottie beam you up? I’m sure with his skills he can handle all the other obstacles.

My boss brought up a woman who is >60 and has health issues. Her department would be the hardest to tele-commute, so we considered giving them the whole building, but have decided due to her health, we will figure out how to get them set up.

In the uk we have been told we have 10 deaths and possibly 5 -10,000 infected.(some people have a very mild illness but can still spread it) Mortality rate 1%, higher for older people.
Anyone that gets a new cough or a temperature has to stay at home for 7 days and self isolate. We are expecting a peak in 10-14 weeks and it could be huge.......... but they are trying to get it to May so that the health service will have less seasonal illness and be more able to cope. Apparently the Government are following a mathematical formula. I just hope they have got it right. I have food, masks, sanitiser, dog food, medicine ...... probably not enough as I had figured it would be a couple of weeks, not months. Scary stuff.

Grocery stores were jammed today. Doesn't help that our school system is extending Spring break which begins tomorrow. It was one week but now being extended to two weeks. Parents out food shopping.

Everyone is rethinking their social gatherings.
If we need to social distance, we are used to it with snow events in the northern tier of the US. Entertainment is TV and internet.

With all the political gatherings, H. asked the question of. What happens if the 2 presidential race hopefuls and President Trump succumb to covid19? A great big ruh roh.
