i might add that we are not following the rules.  refugees have rights under international law.  what Trump is proposing is that we DENY those rights, which is actually a violation of the law, not "following the rules".

Actually my husband spent 2 years going through the asylum process in Canada before he was denied and had to leave. That was a long time ago though.

He came here applied for asylum and went through the process here. Tons of regs and rules and requirement. He was approved for asylum and given work papers fairly early but it took 8 (+)? years to get his green card during which we had to annually re-up his working documents, etc... By the time he got his green card we were married so it only took 2 more years and we applied for citizenship based on marriage at that point rather than him having to wait another 3 additional years.  

The idea that asylum seekers cross the border, get free shit and immediately start voting democrat are just fucking ridonkulous.

Ours do.
We have thousands and thousands pouring in from the USA, about 30,000 since last year at illegal border crossings.
The RCMP helps them with their bags. 
They immediately get housing, legal aid, clothing, schooling, medicare, dental and welfare. (Canadian citizens don't get dental)
Then the fun begins. Processing them. It can take years for their refugee claims to be accepted or denied.

Coning in illegally is a piece of cake.
Coming in legally is difficult.

Like i said, been a long time since husband went through the system. I don't remember him saying he got anything free in Canada except a medical card? Maybe he will chime in. 

One thing he did say is at that point in time Canada immediately gave him work authorization, which allowed him to be employed and pay taxes. Here in the states he worked under the table for maybe a year or more before he got work authorization... which seems worse to me... 

Your government buys and hands out clothing to families?  


I'm totally ok with kids getting free schooling wherever they are on the dime of whatever group of adult people are running the 'local' show. 

I'd also sponsor a refugee family tomorrow if they needed sponsors.

I submit that one does not know.  it is totally irrelevant to the employment decision anyways.  I know someone who is on DACA.  Her parents are divorced, and my understanding is that both are legal residents.  Her Mom got her papers through one of her children.  I think her father got his papers before he divorced her mother, but I don't know how.  I also would have no way of knowing if my understanding is correct, so I don't waste time thinking about it. -Not my problem, I have enough on my plate that I need to deal with, without getting into other people's issues.

That is simply not true that one does not know.
Retired now, but we always checked the data that was presented and did the government check on everyone.
In my last four years, we had four people who eventually bragged about doctored documents, and were then investigated. Sometimes people just get a little too loose with their lips. Another fact, we never received a phone call, email, or letter, claiming we had hired an illegal from any state or federal agency, or even a supposed concerned citizen.
