I am making a rolled beef rump roast. My kids don't like pork and sauerkraut.

Patriots play at 1, so game food to start anyway. I made a kick ass batch of chili with chunks of sirloin last night. I'll add toppings, mozzarella sticks, potato skins, chips, salsa, etc. to feed the crew of kids that slept over and then figure it out from there IF they are still around at dinner time.
Cost? Chili was probably $15. The sides will cost about $20. Dinner is unknown at this point.

It will be traditional southern...black eyed peas, spinach for our greens & ham instead of hog jowls. Neither of us really like southern greens...mustard, turnip or collards. And there will be cornbread.

kadee, what about garlicky kale? I love that as a side. dinner tonight will be a stir fry. I had cut up a bunch of veggies to tempura fry last night and things went a little differently than planned. I still made the japchae I planned, and have leftovers for lunches. no idea on costs, I know I spent $14 on chicken and veggies at Market Basket on Friday but I bought more than what's cut up. and I won't use the whole package of chicken either. I may venture out to see if the fish market around the corner is open. I like salmon in a stir fry.

I can tolerate mustard & turnip, but we prefer spinach...but neither of us will eat kale or collards. And I've grown kale so I know for sure I don't like it at all!

Meatloaf. Now that I no longer have a family at home, I make my meatloaf into four small meatloaf pans so I can still have it myself but not all at once.

haha, okay fair enough. I spinach, too. I'm the opposite, though - love kale and collards, can't stand mustard and don't think I've ever had turnip greens.

Wanted to do the traditional black eye peas and collard greens (which I love too), but didn't plan ahead. So it's turkey soup with homemade broth and leftover Christmas turkey; kiddos are sick, so it will be good for them.

Had a sandwich for dinner. Cost maybe $2. Went to brunch this morning and had pork roast and greens with black eyed peas mixed in.

I'd be interested in trying turnip greens though.

Yesterday I made my annual attempt at making stuffed green pepper. I use yellow, orange and red but that is what the recipe is. I did not get the - not quite right from H. He said they were good.
I made cream biscuits. 2 ingredients. Whoops, I misread the recipe and ended up with runny thing in a pan. It tastes good cold. This is a go again but with the correct amount of cream. I used canned coconut milk rather than whole whipping cream and almond flour.
ETA: The very first time H said he wanted stuffed green peppers, he rattled of the list of ingredients then left the house. He left a lot of information out like cleaning the seeds and membrane from the peppers. He came back, took on look and asked what I had done.
We weren't married nor engaged yet and this should have been a red flag. I told him to leave, take your dog with you, and tossed the entire thing in the trash. I don't recall how he smoothed that over.
I do try annually with different recipes. None are correct.

We worked all day today, me putting away decorations, hubby on the motorhome and helping me. I said I'm dead, no dinner tonight, he went and got a pizza, I can say this time it hit the spot. Since then I've eaten some small oranges and a can of grapefruit and for some reason still hungry. I just ate 2 slices of pizza.
We have DD's caseworker coming tomorrow so house needed to be cleaned up too. Pretty good shape I will clean the bathrooms in the morning and make up the beds, that will do it.
We were going to leave in a couple of days, but very cold and weather looked miserable, hubby and I decided forecast looked better for next Monday so will do then. Besides I'm tired and need to rest up.
Also he is going to try and drive motorhome enough miles to get to 1000 or close so he can change oil as suggested, saves hundreds him doing it himself.

Tonight will be beef stew from the freezer & if it rises in time (I forgot), I'll bake a loaf of 'cheater' bread (frozen bread loaves).
Desert will be Dutch Apple pie, one store had them on sale before Christmas BOGO...ice cream if you want on your pie.
I need to clean out the freezer as much as possible due to it majorly needing defrosted...that's the upright. I'll probably do the chest freezer then next day once they both get down enough. If I do it while it's cold out, that's easier to keep the stuff frozen while it defrosts....I just set the coolers outside (3 coolers).

Chili made with chunks of sirloin roast with assorted toppings and homemade cornbread for those who eat chili.
Pasta with meat sauce made with chunks of sirloin roast for the one who doesn't eat chili. And we'll share the homemade cornbread.
Big salads with lots of veggies.
