The thing about HIV and circumcision is that it is generally studied in the same places where the potty muppet is designed for use. (or under worse conditions).. I haven't been able to find a study where HIV was more prevalent in uncircumcised males in the US or similar. I'd read one if anyone has one though.

And that was someone's opinion (hence, the MO). If someone reading this place makes their decision solely on 998fbird's opinion then the kid has bigger problems than whether or not Mom and Dad cut off his foreskin.

The 'benefits' are so minor they can't even be corroborated in studies done in first world countries, but the risks are very real. A small percentage of these babies die, lose all sexual function, or have decreased sexual function as a result of complications arising from circ procedures.
The vast majority will be fine and probably won't care one way or the other as adults, but why risk it?

My husband is one of the few that was not circumcised, I don't think his folks had the money at the time. He said it needs to be done for health and cleanliness reasons. We had our son done when he was born.
I would not change something like this that has been successful for many many years.
He has not had the problem, but the foreskin can become very tight and cause all kinds of issues. Think twice before not doing it. Did you husband get questions from your son about why he looked different than his dad?

Ok, so I need to think about this again, more seriously this time. My wife's preference is to circumcise, but she is leaving the decision up to me because I am more familiar with the equipment. I can't decide. We haven't talked to the pediatrician, yet, which is something I definitely want to do before making the final call. So has anyone changed their minds one way or the other in the last couple of years? I wouldn't say I "changed my mind". But, if you decide not to, be sure you are given and/or give your wife proper cleaning instruction. I was basically told "leave everything alone" (which I see was mentioned in at least one other post, haven't read them all) and my son ended up with an emergency circumcision.
The funniest thing about it was I took him to the pediatrician on Intern Day, each intern came in to see my son because it was so rare they may have gone a long time without the chance to see the condition again.
The worse part was the actual circumcision, they had to call around to urologists to find one that had equipment the right size for the procedure. They had to separate us for the procedure and he just screeeeeamed. I guess it happens in the hospital too, but it's different when you actually hear it.

You can talk about the rare risks of not having it done. But don't forget the risks of having it done such as infection, penile injury, risks of anesthesia or local , etc.

And that statement isn't even the exact wording, which says even less about 'the benefits'...

I have no dog (or son) ìn this discussion. Just an article I came across today. I did have one friend who had to be circumsized at the age of 30 for health reasons. It was no treat to be cut at that age.

LOL, I was sayyyying, it prob would've been easier on him 1. if he had been younger (I think he was maybe 9months, 1 year? He's soon to be 18 so I'm a little fuzzy!) and 2. if he didn't have a raging infection at the time.

I had all my sons circumcised and they all are glad I did. Yup I asked them.
It's cleaner and they don't get that embarrassing smegma smell (sure I didn't spell it right)

I'm another one who left it up to DH. I have no idea how much thought he put into it but he opted to have DS circumcised but I was happy to make it his decision. This is my plan now. We've discussed it but the decision is his. I am also making him go with baby J to have it done if that's what he chooses.

Good luck! They came for DS about 20 minutes after DH left. He was sleeping by the time they brought him back so I assume he was not traumatized. From what I've seen of the procedure, the clamp is so sharp it's like when you don't realize that you cut yourself with a new knife blade. Either way he's almost 8 and has not had any PTSD episodes so far.

We had our son circumcised. I left the decision up to my husband. Our OB did it while we were still in the hospital. He said the baby didn't even cry and there was hardly any blood. I will do it again if we have another boy this time around.

And he was only gone for about 10 minutes if that.

We ended up snipping our son. Both pediatricians we talked to made it sound like the pros outweighed the cons. I did like the way it looked pre-snipped, though. So sleek.

No, but I will bet there are plenty of women who say thank you.

Is there any guy who said "oh thank you sooo much for circumcising me!"!!! Sure. Plenty/most men. Most circumcised men do not give it a second thought.

Really? As grown adults they have issues because of this? I'd sure think it'd be the other way around.

Is there any guy who said "oh thank you sooo much for circumcising me!"!!! Yes, but you left an important part out. "... when I was too young to remember it." 4 brothers and 2 husbands (no, not at the same time) were all thankful. DH's dad had to have it done as a grown man and still talks about the horrors of what he had to go through. He very much wished he had been as a baby. And as a woman I'm very thankful. I prefer circumcised as I've stated many pages ago in this thread.

Men, be glad you are not a Muslim. They circumcise at 8 years old. Harshly judged on how the child reacts.
How do I know? One of those airplane conversations where you are trapped in a seat and cannot stop listening.

DH was circumcised (as a baby) as were his sister's 2 sons - our nephews (as babies).
It wasn't for cultural or religious reasons - it was for health/hygienic reasons.
