My son was circumcised, it was a very common practice at the time. From what I am hearing now, there are some guys that are referring to circumcision as genital mutilation. I think the practice is becoming more controversial now. Hopefully, my son won't feel this way - since he didn't have any choice in the matter.

My son was circumsized. It wasn't too bad. I didn't care either way. I told DH since he was the one who knew more about these things he could decide what to do.

There are a lot of things kids dont have a choice in, and until they are 18 all they have is an opinion

[Those are called whimps] Ha! That's good to hear coming from a guy. Honestly, I didn't give the decision to circumcise a second thought - that's just what you did w/ baby boys. Sometimes I listen to talk radio, and Dr Dean O'Dell is very anti circumcisim. He says it reduces a man's sexual pleasure. Either way, my son doesn't talk much to me about his penis, although he has said that he is so glad he wasn't born a girl! LOL

How would a man know if circumcision has reduced his sexual pleasure anyway? (Question is rhetorical, I'm not really looking for an answer - it might get me banned)!

Thats like saying if I slapped you it would hurt more than if I slapped the person next to you. There is no way to judge. Im going to have to get me one of them Govt grants and do a study, but I will only be able to judge one side of the study

When my son was born, I really didn't care one way or the other - I've heard both sides of the argument, and I really didn't think it was a big deal either way - but DH was strongly in the "no circumcision" camp, so we didn't do it. The only odd thing was that for the first month of his life (every day in the hospital, every follow up and checkup) every doctor/nurse that saw me asked if I wanted to have his circumcised.

I've heard that an uncircumcised penis is more sensitive - because the head isn't exposed all the time.

I don't know what I am going to do if I have a son.
On one hand I am circumsized and I don't really give a thought either way very often.
On the other hand, it is totally unnecessary to cut part of a guys penis off so why the hell would I do it to my son?

DS was born in 1984, so there was less anti-circumcision sentiment back then. I left the decision to DH. DH had been born prematurely and wasn't circumcized till he was 10 or 11 and found it VERY traumatic. I think they did it then because he wanted to look like the other boys. So, DS got the surgery before he left the hospital. DS hasn't complained to me so I guess he's OK with it.
And while it's technically genital mutilation, anyone who uses that term ought to read about what they do to women in some African societies. It makes circumcision done in a hospital environment look like a walk in the park.

I have been cut twice and it hasn't hurt me at all .. I do know my son didnt walk for a year after it was done so I dont know if that was a side effect or not

Just FYI ~ Have any of you who are pro-circumcision actually been in the same room when your newborn son IS circumcised? I had a friend who had her son circumcised when he was a newborn. This was in the 1980's when the practice was widespread. The doctor strapped the infant to a "circ" board by leather straps--arms and legs. Her husband was in the room, but she chose to stand immediately outside the door. The doctor provided no local either.
The mom said she could hear her son cry horrifically in pain outside the room. She described it as a high-pitched wail. She regretted the decision, but her husband was for it. He said he was concerned if his son would look "different" when in high school sports and undressing in the locker room.
After she told me how traumatic it was to hear her newborn son's wailing and seeing her newborn son immediately after the procedure, my husband and I discussed it. We chose not to circumcise our newborn son.
He was born in 1986, and the doctor said within 10-15 years, he thought it would be 50/50 uncircumcised/circumcised and no longer an issue "in the locker room". Also, back then, the health insurance company we were with would no longer pay for the procedure as it was now considered an "unnecessary procedure".
Just my personal experience with this issue and my two cents...
And yes, I asked my 24-year old son, if he would have preferred that we say "Yes" to the procedure when he was a newborn. He said, "Nope! Hasn't been any problem--even at high school gym when undressing in front of the guys. No one even mentioned anything, so I'm good!" Just my experience and my two cents...

In retrospect, I wouldn't have done it. They didn't have any problems, but I really don't see the point.
LOL at the pun. Of course you don't see the point, it's been circumcised. Uncircumcised Ps are so pointy.
My sons are circumcised just like their father and all the other men relatives on both sides of the family.
Now that they're older and have seen what an uncircumcised penis looks like, they say they're glad they had work done down there.
If I had a baby boy now, I am sure I'd agonized whether to circumsize or not.

I didn't circumcise my boys. While the risk of infection in minor WHY would I risk it on my newborn baby. Plus it just seems painful and unnecessary.
Although I was also asked many times in the hospital and at the doctor's office if I wanted it done. Makes me believe more do it then don't.

The doctor provided no local either. They told me anaesthetic for DS would cost extra. I told them I didn't care what it cost- give him the anaesthetic.

Just FYI It was so tramatic I remember it to this day lol Not really, no more than I remember the diaper rash or anything else at that age. I think if you are not a man then you really have no idea what you are talking about. Sure the kid goes through some pain, but its not something they will remember. Now the sanitary part. That will will remember if they are uncut, And he may learn to like washing as fast as he wants

I never thought one way or another, but I think its interesting to hear that the trend is closer to 50/50 now.

This is the moment when my husband (a Brit), his brother, and all their friends grab their crotches and scream, "What other body part would you like to slice off your new baby" and my SIL looks at you as if you are insane, snatches up her tiny son and runs away!
Americans are the only population that routinely circ for non-religious reasons.

"Im going to have to get me one of them Govt grants and do a study, but I will only be able to judge one side of the study"
I know this was said in a joking manner, but just can't wrap my head around this: how would you test this in real life? full, partial, and no circumcision? It is the partial one that would give the best data if it were possible at all: does it feel better on the left or the right side dear?
Really, why cut a newborn without any reason other than "he'll look the same as others" and then go around telling that same child while growing up how special he is compared to others??? I am rather confused by this...
