Yeah, if you want the final outcomes (so far) of the Theon/Ramsey situation without watching:

Ramsey cuts off Theon's penis and sends it to Theon's father. Theon's father then declares he no longer has a son. His daughter then becomes his heir.

Ramsey pretty much completely destroys Theon's mental facilities and turns him into "reek", who will do whatever Ramsey demands. Until he doesn't.

Ramsey's father, Roose Bolton, is not pleased about what he did to Theon, because he (Roose) wanted to use Theon for his own purposes.

I think, if I recall correctly, Ramsey is told that he can become a Bolton (as a bastard, he is a "Snow") if he conquers Winterfell.

You kind of want to feel sorry for Theon, but you also kind of think he deserves it for how he took Winterfell. At least, that's my experience.

Yesterday, Game of Thrones won another award for season 5. The show took home the Art Directors Guild Award for art direction in a One-Hour Period or Fantasy Single-Camera Series, beating Downton Abbey, Gotham, The Knick and Mad Men. Game of Thrones was nominated for its art direction in three episodes in particular- “High Sparrow,” “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” and “Hardhome,” and the fine work by GoT’s team took home the prize last night.

I've never watched it, but bought all 5 seasons recently for cheap off Craigslist.  I'm waiting to watch them until I read all the books.  I just started the third book and really like them.

DH has been counting the days and we watch all seasons again when the new season begins.  So, I've seen season 1 at least five times already.    I don't really mind as there are so many small nuances it's easy to forget them after several months.

My thoughts on Episode One ... spoiler blocked ...

Ramsay Bolton seemed genuine and heartfelt talking about his relationship with Myranda and how he will miss her ... and then was delightfully creepy when he said not to bury or burn her body and instead feed it to the hounds because it was "good meat." AUUUUGHHH! (I loathe Ramsay)

I thought the Dorne storyline was a bit disappointing ... the deaths seemed gratuitious and rushed and I'm not sure what they added to the plot at this point? And how did the two girls even GET on Trystane's ship? Are we expected to believe that Dorne will now rally behind the bastard-born paramour of a 2nd son and his illegitimate daughters who have just flat murdered their legitimate Ruler and heir?

I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t include Bran in the premiere. A heavily hyped up premiere episode like this would have benefited from a cool Bran scene or vision. His reintroduction would have worked perfectly as a cold open or finale scene for the premiere. Oh well ... maybe next week?

The Brienne/Sansa moment was lovely and it’s a great callback to the Ghost of Harrenhall when she pledged her sword to Lady Catelyn. This time she’s much more reluctant ... but then genuinely delighted when Sansa accepts. Sanda saying the same words as her mother to Brienne was also really touching, especially with the help of the brilliant swordsman who slays the ladies, Podrick. I can’t help but love that kid.

And just wow on Carice van Houten's transformation/reveal of Melisandre's real self.

Overall? Enjoyed it! Not as good as season 4 and 1 premieres. Better than 5 and probably on a par with season 2 premiere.

Thing with Dorne, though, is they don't care about bastards or illegitimate anything.  They also don't care about incest, being gay/bisexual, etc.  Sexually, they are wide open and women are equal to men when it comes to being rulers (at least, in the books, iirc).  I imagine some of the people see the coup as long overdue, finally going after the Lannisters for killing Elia (sp?)  The Dorne plot seemed so pointless to come in so late in the books as well, my guess is that it's going to lead to another war front for the Lannisters to have to fight, when the kids are starting to drop like flies.

Overall? Enjoyed it! Not as good as season 4 and 1 premieres. Better than 5 and probably on a par with season 2 premiere.

I laughed at the "For the baby.  To eat." scene.  That is totally me traveling in a foreign country, completely hacking the language.  Poor Tyrion.

Oh...! I just thought of something, and it's totally my own theory (or, at least, I haven't heard it anywhere else). ETA: had to edit the stuff in the spoiler below a little.

 Daenerys has been told that she will not become queen  bear a child until the sun rises in the west and sets in the east... Dorne is in the west. And the Martells are from Dorne. And their sigil is a sun and a spear. I think the Dorne storyline just became more important!
