CTV has declared a Liberal win, no clue on minority or majority. That's almost a shame. I like to think B.C. could have delivered the suspense. I never liked knowing 3 minutes after the polls closed who our new overlords were.

Virgil. you're lucky to live in a democracy where you have the right to vote. You're lucky to live in a place where the ruling party doesn't garner 145% of the vote. You're lucky to live in a country which elects its government. You have moral reasons not to vote? How about having moral reasons not to denigrate the people who do? How about not pissing and moaning, but going out and VOTING? Nah, just keep complaining. There are some people in other countries who walk for miles, under the threat of death, in order to vote. You have the right and the ease, but refuse to. Pffft.

CTV has declared a Liberal win, no clue on minority or majority. I may have been mistaken. The Liberals could very well win with a majority. Suck it Harper, with your dead cat on the table. Nice try, but no cigar!

Sure they do. Not only are there sound moral and practical reasons for not voting, your logic plainly fails when applied to other situations. You would have to forfeit your right to complain if the only three things your workplace cafeteria served were pizza, hamburgers, and hotdogs, and you (being a vegetarian) elected to go hungry. Somehow I don't think that would stop you from complaining. Instead of complaining, I bring my own lunch to work because I don't eat meat. Next!! How about this? 1. I make a "Weltz can't find the 'X'." joke. 2. I dig up an old post of yours where you're refusing to participate in something and yet still complaining about it, thus demonstrating your hypocrisy. 3. I do both 1 and 2. Pick one, or I'll pick for you. And don't complain.

Yeah, you're really good at digging up old posts, but not so good at being civic-minded. Priorities!

Saying none of the above is a step some people think says something.

Let's see, Jays having a good night, MC undefeated in regular season so far, Trudeau's Liberals poised to form next government, all we need now is the restoration of Canada's TRUE anthem, the original HNIC theme song.

The ease of voting has no relevance to its effectiveness or appropriateness, nor does its immediate preferability to other systems of government. I have the right and ease to solicit a prostitute, whereas doing this elsewhere would require walking for miles and the threat of death. That doesn't mean I should solicit prostitutes. I'm not denigrating people who vote. I'm criticizing (or simply questioning, in some cases) their choices and priorities. My concern is in why they've embraced certain ideologies. If and how they vote is an ancillary issue. Having said this, if my criticism is simply upsetting you, I agree there isn't much point in raising it. For the record, I was hoping that you or Sugilite might defend the Liberal platform and make a debate out of it. It would be the first Canadian political debate ever on YMAM. You're the one failing to engage. So don't come after me about "pissing and moaning".

Yeah, you're really good at digging up old posts, but not so good at being civic-minded. Priorities! I'm exceptionally civic-minded. My views on what my civic duty constitutes just isn't perfectly aligned with contemporary western views on what does and doesn't constitute civic duty. I am also exceptionally good at digging up old posts, so I'll give you that much.

Very sad news, Olivia Chow lost her riding, for the NDP. Oh, that's too bad. I like Olivia Chow, and I adored her husband. Smilin' Jack was a wonderful politician.

I hope so. I really hope young Mr. Trudeau isn't anything like his father. At least the government will finally get to tax the snot out of pot.

Up until the very last minute, I wasn't sure which direction to go in. All I knew was that we have to oust that sonofabitch. The polls had them SO close, running neck and neck. I just said "This one is for you, Jack." and voted NDP. I have no issues with the young Justin.

DECLARING a Liberal Majority government for Canada. Thanks, sugi, for letting us know. I'd probably have gone NDP were I Canadian. Thanks, also and again, to laterbloomer for offering a post explaining the various parties and their stances. I found that very informative and don't feel so uneducated with regard to Canadian politics since I read it. In fact, I've even sought out more information. This is the first time I've had the opportunity to share with Canadians about such things. Really enjoyable.
