I don't know what I expected for $750, but it wasn't that.

I've been thinking about appropriate clothing for different situations in general (as I see too many people at the grocery store in pajama pants). I think taking the time and care to dress appropriately shows respect to the people you're spending time with. Obviously, if you don't have the time/money to wear something special, but do your best, then it's the thought that counts. I guess it's the thought that counts in the other direction too. If you're going for passable, then okay, that's the amount of thought/care you put into it. Maybe that's fine for the particular relationship that you have with the other people involved. For my own wedding, I really appreciated the people who took the time to dress up for it, even if it was just a step up from their usual attire. It showed me that they thought it was a special event. I hope my family doesn't feel like this. Me showing up is how I am showing I care about them. I don't have the personal resources at this point to do much beyond passable when it comes to appearance. My whole family, all 7 of them, must have really hated me then based on this premise. For my wedding, my mother, my sister, my great aunt and I all wore pants/pantsuits and my dad and 2 uncles wore button down shirts with a tie for the ceremony. As soon as that ceremony was over, the ties came off. All the men on DH's side that attended basically wore khakis and a nice shirt, oddly enough no Carrharts, Dickies or workboots. I didn't have attendants so I didn't have to worry about that. Gives me hives just thinking about it. I don't particularly like dresses but if I am going to a wedding I usually know how presentable to be. DH has a standard suit for weddings and a jacket and pants for everything else, including our wedding. Maybe I should have worn one of my skull t-shirts with my flame pajama pants. My parents were already rolling their eyes over the teddy bear cake toppers so what's one more thing?

Did you post a shot of the boots? Here you go. Dang! The stitching on the shaft is as gorgeous as the ostrich and the heel is the real deal, not some hooker-high spinoff. I usually do a somewhat rounded toe but that squared off one looks pretty awesome. Luchese? I have my eye on an ostrich leg belt for DH for his birthday. The leg skin is like a really fine reptile-type finish, not the bumps of full-quill like your boots.

More comfortable than they look; they taper beyond where your toes spread out. We were in Austin for a family wedding and I got DDIL a pair of Justins. I think the saleslady had a good day!

Now you've got to put them on and ride a horse. They look even better when they're broken in and have some horse crap on 'em!

The older I get, the bigger and scarier they seem. Besides, if I showed up in those boots I'd look like one of those rich suburban ladies who has too much money to spend and blew $750 on boots to look fashionable for one horseback ride. I have a pair of ancient Timberland hiking boots (ankle-high) and would probably wear those instead. Practical, and not as amateurish as sneakers.

FYI, if you ever decide to ride a motorcycle, the ancient ankle high Timberlands will be perfect for that, too. Good grip, protects the ankles, thick protective soles... and you don't look like a wanna be.

Must be the month for cowboy boots. Just bought some for DD#1. I don't think she's taken them off since they arrived! They are real cowboy boots, but not as pricey as athena's! Her hubby was so jealous, he asked his mom for early b-day gift of his own pair!! Now the kids want them too! I am pretty sure I accounted for g-kid expenses/gifts in the budget, but I need to actually get on the budget to make sure I don't accidentally overspend. Since quitting work I have spent very little, so doubt it is a problem. I like spoiling those kids a little

Yeah, there's something about Western boots that make you feel authoritative or in control or something like that. Friends from church bought a pair for their little boy, who was maybe 4, and I swear I never saw him in any other shoes on Sunday for a year- that must have been when he grew out of them.

My girls at school will put on the frilliest of dresses . . . and cowboy boots. It's the thing!

I don't know. I did not have a summer casual beach themed wedding and some idiot showed up in a sundress that was totally inappropriate due to it being way too casual. She stuck out like a sore thumb. It would have been a lovely bathing suit cover up. So people can dress wrong for the event. When I was younger, stuff like that really bothered me. Now that I'm older not only don't I mind but I somewhat look forward to those loveable goofballs, since they can provide some spice to an otherwise boring event. It's fun not only to watch the reactions of people around them, but to have something interesting happening.
The older I get, the greater appreciation I have for random happenings. If this trend continues, it may get extreme enough that by the time I'm 70, I'll be the one showing up at a wedding in a bikini just to spark a little life to the party.
I think I saw your future self at the beach Friday. A word of advice. At least cover your face. It was hideous after all those years of sunning it. But your body wasn't bad at all! You can rock that string bikini! Athena - I'm glad you had a great time!
