I hope so, too. A bloody nose saved the day today. He wanted to go into the office for a few hours. Sigh. Is it men? Or a type personality?

I think it is a desire to regain control of one's life.

The cats are stressed because they know he's home and they can't get to him. Oh, boy.

Aw, poor kitties. If you can, give them a pillow or blanket from his bedroom that has DF's scent. Then at least they will feel better, knowing cat Daddy is OK. Pets always know when someone is sick or otherwise stressed, and that's what they may be sensing.

They are actually crying outside the door. Good grief. So he's going to lay on the couch and let them cuddle in. The do tors appt just about did him in. But it has to be done.

Zib, the cats being nearby may help some. Pets are supposed to lower our blood pressure and all. OK, maybe not all pets. Some of you with pets from hell will likely disagree.

He'll probably enjoy the attention the cats will pay him. I'm so glad he's home and seems to be doing well. He will tire easily for awhile, though.

All 3 of them are just staring at him. Ick. Hopefully, he's asleep. I don't like being stared at.

Once they've assured themselves it's really him and he's open for laying against, they'll take their rightful places.

I went back to work (teaching) a week after my heart attack. Attack likely happened on Sunday, doctor on Monday, stent in on Tuesday morning, back to work the following Monday. Did make it through the week but then took the next week off. Not as major a procedure as this guy but for me it was about not letting "it" win.

Or seeing if he's still WARM! Well, he is counting carbs and seeing how much insulin to try to inject in preparation for dinner. Trying is the best we can do because the sugar levels are all over the place. I had to laugh, to myself, about rinsing off and then counting out 15 black olives.

They seem okay that he is back and it's him. So they are all doing their own thing now, as per usual. This sugar thing is a bugger. It was high so you have to compensate. Okay, we have a method to follow to do that. Then he has to judge how much he will eat and also add in for that. No problem. Except he blew it with counting and injected 4X more insulin than he was supposed to! OMG. So now I get to oversee that while he eats dinner plus an entire can of canned peaches to compensate. Yikes. Then he ate some of his Exs ice cream she brought him to the hospital. Yup, ice cream to someone who is having sugar issues all over the place. He thinks it was a nice gesture.

Me too. The sugar thing worries me but the transplant team says it will be this way for a few months.

Oh, dear. It really is hard to learn to control serum glucose; particularly when you're not used to doing so. It's going to have to be tested pretty often if it remains erratic. A protein snack before bedtime is always a good idea. Protein is converted to sugar a little more slowly than carbs, so it helps to keep serum glucose from dropping during the night. This will stabilize as he recovers from the surgery but it may be a rocky road for a bit. Hang in there, zib.

Zib....when trying to balance out the glucose levels, it's best if you can to eat both protein and carbs together. Sometimes a PBJ sandwich is good, along with some juice. I know it's a devil to fight until things start to settle down. Grapes are also loaded with carbs and if you freeze some they are even better and much more tasty. We also use granola type bars called protein bars, Nature Valley makes a good one that is peanut butter & dark chocolate.
DH will also use grape juice and apple juice instead of OJ. We also buy the 6 pks of grape and apple juice to carry in the cars or handbag. Another quickie good thing is those orange shaped sugar coated sugar slices made by Brachs. We keep those in the cars also. Sometimes you need to nudge it up or down in small steps. By overdoing the juices, DH has ended up with reading close to 400, now he takes little steps along with frequent BS readings.
On edit, it looks like mmhmm and I are agreeing with the protein intake....

The night from hell. Sugar everywhere, too high too low, all night long. Because DF is used to getting up a lot at night, he falls right bak to sleep but not me, of course. Now he's snoring away and we have blood work we have to get by 8 am. I'm tired and very bitchy.

Sorry you had a bad night. Hope today is better.
IF this continues, can you hire your own, approved, nurse maybe to help with overnights until things settle a bit?

I guess visiting nurses called him and he told them he didn't need their help. WTF? We will be addressing that issue later. I have stuff I need to do and he needs a babysitter.
