He became insulin dependent because of the meds he was taking to keep him alive while awaiting new heart. Now his sugar is all over the place because of the new meds but doctor says once he's stabilized this should end. Whew! In two hours he can go from 68-too low, to 243-too high. Yikes! That's not that abnormal after a major surgery like this, zib. The changes in body chemistry, the body getting used to the new heart, disruption of internal organs and the medications being given to fight rejection all contribute. This is something one expects to see, watches for, and treats as required until stabilization can be reached. The body needs time.

Absolutely but now the fun begins. All my appointments get moved to accommodate all of his. I've waited months to get into this doctor and its the same time, of course, as his next biopsy after tomorrow's. argh. If I'm lucky, l'll get in now next year

She's back in Chicago safely away from any work and the ex, now that there's no attention to be garnered but just work, certainly couldn't be bothered. No, it's my responsibility but I need to take care of myself, too. Ex would love it if he asked her, that's just too funny.

Absolutely. Hopefully I don't have skin cancer anywhere and if I do, it's not too late.

He's anxious to get out of here. I need to hit store and get some stuff. Disinfectant wipes and lots of hand sanitizers.

Ask your Drs office to place you on a cancellation list for same day cancels. We get a lot of patients in that way, you never know when it may just work for you.

They once hung someone else's IV for my late DH. I made them leave the bag on the pole until I could find an administrator to show there was some woman's antibiotic hanging and it was the wrong strength. I pointed out that it was good that it was not something he was deathly allergic to...
Then again, he died from an MRSA infection that was acquired in a medical setting.
I think people are better off if they are not in the hospital........

I will breathe a lot easier when he's out. The surgical team was awesome, the nurses, not so much.

He had a bad night and he's starving because he can't eat before test and test isn't until noon, IF its on time. Makes for a grumpy man.

I hate the "hungry" tests. They make me grumpy, too. I have one coming up next week, but at least it's outpatient. Zib, once DF is out, what's next, aside from a bazillion doctor appointments? Can he travel anytime this year?

Okay! Got him home, fed him, and put him to bed. We are having a fireplace put in right outside the bedroom window. Of course this was in plan before the transplant so it is what it is but sleeping in isnt possible. In fact, taking a shower without being spied on wasnt possible, either. I will be showering in basement until project is done. We have doctor appt at 1pm. We have some appt or another almost every day. He had the nosebleed from hell this morning so went bak to bed after taking meds, which was fine by me because he thought he'd go go to the office for a few hours!! I may be venting here a bit because WTF!!!!

I'm just relieved to get him out of that hospital. So unsanitary and no rest possible.

Yay! More good news! Glad to hear he's home. I hope he is able to get some quality rest and can be persuaded to make convalescing his full-time job.
