After a long and drawn out process, he has made the list. At least we don't have to start all over again at Mayo or Cleveland clinic so that's a load off. Now we wait but at least we have something to wait for.

That's awesome! I hope someone, or someone's family, is selfless enough to be a donor, and you are in the right place at the right time.

The nice thing about him being so skinny as opposed to the usual heavier candidates is that he can take a smaller/younger heart. It's a hard thing to pray for but if it is someone's time, please let them be in our radius and O blood type!

Here's hoping a donor shows up soon. Kind of a weird thing to hope for...someone else to die...but if it's going to happen, might as well make the best of it and save someone else.

The Type O blood type is the most common one, right? Hopefully, that will increase the chances of a match (?). I know the geography matters, as does need. I hope everything aligns just right.

Good news.
Everyone should be a donor, health permitting. The gift that keeps on giving.

I thought type O blood is the rarest but can give blood to anyone. The problem is that they can't receive anything but O type.

I don't know. I know I'm the universal donor being an O myself. Hope it's not too rare. Any medical people out there with more info?

For blood transfusion
O pos is the most common blood type.
O neg is the universal donor Nice chart here
But in nearly all transfusion cases, except extreme emergencies, they are going to give type specific blood.
For transplant, it looks like the pos/neg doesn't matter. And they will give a O heart to an A or B recipient in urgent situations.

Yup, when I found out he was O neg I panicked but they said that didn't matter.

I'm happy for your good news.
How do they work the transplant list? Do they triage the candidates? Or maybe first in/first out if the organ is a suitable match?
