I've been busy lately. Went with DD, DSIL, DGS to family weekend at DGD2's university; lots of fun. Got in lots of walking and it was quite hot also! I really enjoyed it though. The next Saturday had DS2 and his family over for dinner, then left Monday to visit DGD1 and her family. Had a lot of fun with the two GGSs but boy was I tired!! Then spent the weekend with DS1 and his wife; visited the church DH and I were members of for so long and saw lots of old friends and acquaintances. It was pretty emotional; hadn't been there since DH's memorial in March. But it was good. Drove home that evening, stopping to have dinner with DGD2. Now I'm spending the week very slowly catching up on things. I think I'm ready to stay home for a while.

I got up 40 minutes before needing to be at pickle ball. We made it on time. It doesn't matter if we get there on time or not. We played 1.5 hours. The meat close out bin at the store had 3 lbs of burger meat to make chili this weekend. A really good nap after a week of dreading the dentist for crowns. I was surprised at how fearful I was. The roof of my mouth gets burned real easily and it was bothering. It's good to finally relax. I have a book to start reading. This will be the 4th one in about 2 weeks.

I bet I'm so sore in the morning I can't move. I actually had a spasm in a finger, LOL! My pointer finger was locked down and I couldn't move it up.
I got 3/4's of the window paint scraped off, but reaching up to the top piece just pooped out. Hubs will have to put the scaffolding up again tomorrow, I was hoping to finish the top so we didn't have to tomorrow. I got half of the leaded glass scraped off. Paint splatters all over it. I hope to get that one window done tomorrow, it is a big one.
The weather was beautiful at least. I am cooking processed food tonight, breaded shrimp, that's it. Maybe some cottage cheese. Deep fried sure isn't going to help the cholesterol, but I'm to tired to do anything else tonight.

Had a break in the rainy weather so DH and I went out and cut down the casualties from the latest frost. The wind and rain from the past week or so have stripped most of the autumn leaves from our fruit trees. The yard looks pretty bleak now. A couple of the calla lilies had formed seed pods so we're going to try and harvest some seeds to plant next spring.

Went to the doctor. Her office was freezing. Everyone was complaining. My cholesterol is great so she’s happy. She wants me off the HRT so I’m not happy. But I’ll do it.

I was a little bored this morning, so decided to go to YNAB for 2020. Sent a text to my financial advisor and asked what % to use to increase my costs for the year....he suggested 3% increase. So, as I entered all my monthly expenses etc. increased by 3% things started looking scary. End result , even with the 1.6% cola for next year, there is only a small amount left at end of month. I think my somewhat recklesss spending is going to come to a screeching halt, as I refuse to take money from my brokerage account. Of course, I could eliminate a few categories , but what fun is that......

Finally got moving, I painted around the 3 window frames. I painted a window with 5 panes of glass, did a very poor job, needed a new brush but finished the one side. I am going to have a ton of scraping and likely repaint it. Came home did the back side of the one here with a new brush and was just as bad. Not sure today, couldn't seem to hold steady or something. Just made extra work for myself.
Tomorrow can caulk around the storm windows on those 3 windows. This stuff is very very time consuming. Then scrap off the glass my sloppy painting.

Our little house was spray painted today. Glad to be done with that. My H. and I played a mixer of Tennis and Pickleball followed by lunch. Nap and shower #2.

Took my son and his dog to breakfast and gave him the stuff I had saved for him. Asked him what he wanted for Christmas. A coffee table. Lovely. One year it was a mattress and another it was tires. Sigh.

Sigh. Those are not “fun” gifts and are maybe on the more costly side. I see where he’s coming from though. A cordless drill and a snowblower are the favorite two gifts I’ve received. Other fun stuff was nice, but it’s probably all gone by the wayside by now. Years later I’m still using those items and they have made my life so much easier.

After I had water in my basement, I asked for a wet vac for Christmas and that is what I was given.

I had a surprise bye for tennis this morning. I came home and did a lot of extras in house care. The heat ducts were sealed today. They did preventive maintenance, also. The tech never did say the ducts were leaking. It's done and was a really good deal.

Normally the cleaning ladies put clean sheets on the bed....that is a joy for an old lady like me. But yesterday I decided I'd do it myself and also put the electric blanket on the bed for winter. What a treat that was last night to watch TV in a snuggly warm bed.
I have to admit the whole process was a little hard for me to do, and it took a few times of sitting down to rest, but it's DONE!
Cleaning ladies come this morning and have dentist apt. this afternoon (ug)

My grandma asked for and received from me years ago, an electric mattress pad. She loved it. Thankfully she turned it off and unplugged it before she got into bed to sleep. It scared me to death. But it warmed her sheets while she got ready for bed. I don't know why she wanted that instead of an electric blanket but it actually existed so I got it for her.

Catching up on household chores (mostly laundry) and nibbling on leftovers (not much left). Will probably watch a Christmas movie or two later on (we have a number of holiday DVDs to choose from).

I have a few favorite Christmas movies but haven't watched yet this year. One is Elf because it's just so downright slap-stick silly. A Christmas Story (You'll shoot your eye out!). A Christmas Carol. I like the one with Alastair Sim and the one with George C. Scott. Last night I searched everydamnwhere for any of the Christmas Carol movies, but the only one I found was one of the earliest ones on Britbox. Meh. I don't like that one. Is there a reason why nobody's showing the versions I like?

A friend younger than me came over and helped me get the mattress pad back on my 18" mattress, and then helped me with the sheets. Normally my cleaning ladies do this but this last time it didn't happen.
After that I took her to lunch and we had a fun time. She's also a widow, has been for 5 years whereas for me it's been 4 years today.

Blonde Granny Anniversaries and holidays are still hard for me, and the 11-year ones have started. The day of our bike accident was November 1. Then November 30 rolled around. My son died 16 years ago yesterday. These are things I'll never get over, but at least now it's not as hard to bear.

A church lady friend told me you will never get over it, but the feelings and emotions change.
She has been a widow for almost 30 years.

My smoke alarm was chirping at 6:00 a.m. I got up and took it down from the high shelf it was on then went back to bed and to sleep.
When I woke up again, 7:30 a.m. and barely enough time to shower, dress, eat and go to church. I made it on time. Home again and made early lunch because we play tennis at noon to 2:30 p.m. I wasn't going to play as long as I did. I get late onset of tiredness that I don't need for tomorrows tennis. I haven't been getting to the weight room at all. I need to go early. I was going over to a friends to go with her to get the Christmas Party tickets for the entire table. I get there and she says you didn't get my text. Um no. She was going to meet another friend and the couples were going out after. She felt real bad. I didn't. I went home and visited with our neighbors for the happy hour! Then dinner. I was going to watch God Friended Me but can't find it on my TV in the bedroom. H. has living room TV muted but football is on.
A big milestone today. My 1 y.o. great grand son is WALKING around the table and couch!

First Thanksgiving without my DH in 51 years. I'm so thankful DS1 and DD and her family were here for me. We had a great time; and DS1 and his wife stayed all weekend. It helped.

NastyWoman Funny you should ask. I found the 1951 version with Alastair Sim on TCM last night. I don't have Prime, but Netflix will probably start showing it soon if they haven't already. Did you know that Patrick MacNee was in the 1951 version? He played young Joseph Marley. I never noticed before.

I did not know that Patrick MacNee was in the 1951 version. Can I use the excuse that this "39yo" was a newborn in 1951? → I use fluid mathematics to calculate my age. And I am really good at it, unlike my sons one of whom is now older than I am

One son was born in an odd-numbered year so I never can remember how old he is. Subtract one year to make it even, add one year to 2019, subtract another year, add another one... Math? I do it by twos and tens. Add or subtract odd numbers. My version of new math. Remember slide rules? Never did figure out how to use one. We weren't allowed to use calculators in high school, but they were too big to tote around anyway (picture that in your mind's eye!).
