Stayed home and reviewed the budget spreadsheet. We just got the estimate for asphalting the driveway, $36,000! It needs to be done sooner rather than later but I want to pay as much as possible in cash rather than using our HELOC.

I don't know if the praluent is causing my sore throat or if I've caught something. Tonight I Vicked it and have a towel wrapped around it, its really hurting. That is one of the side effects that is common, sore throat and coughing. I wish I knew because I'm due for another shot tomorrow, think I need to make a doc appointment. I'm taking steroids so you would think they would help.

I'm taking steroids so you would think they would help. Steroids depress inflammation, including your immune reaction. If you get sick they are not the thing you need to take for your illness. You want your immune system to help fight your disease, not hinder it. Also, continued use of steroids can cause avascular necrosis. I wonder if this is what is going on with your joints, because I know you have taken steroids frequently. AVN is very difficult to diagnose because not a lot of people know about it and not a lot of doctors see it. Most common places it shows up in in hips and shoulders, but for some it is in feet, knees and ankles as well.

I have the prednisone pack, it was for 5 days I think, they used to be the ones for 10, took the last this morning. That's what I thought that steroids depressed the immune system. I didn't want to take it but my eye swelled so badly from the bite it was painful, took a couple days to go down.
I guess I will give myself the shot, honestly, I think I picked this up at the doctors office last week, lots of sick kids there. Last night was an awful sore throat, took Nyquil and wrapped it, slept good. Today I can't talk real well, almost squeaking. This morning I was coughing, but doesn't sound like or feel like chest congestion, now its better, throat not bad at all. But these are all symptoms listed in the literature. I guess if I take it and it gets worse I will know.
It's called praluent or alirocumab and I think I'm a guinea pig. I still have a mark from the first injection from 5 weeks ago. There was nothing there until I gave myself an injection in the other leg. The first I cleaned with alcohol thoroughly. The second I forgot, yeah, how could I but I did. Nothing on that leg, hum.
This stuff it says can also cause forgetfulness, like I need that. I guess you weigh the pros and cons. I want to make it through the 3 months and see if it helps as dramatically as it says. If so its well worth all this. My blood pressure last night is good 125/ 71 and heart rate 71. That is good, it was down to 50 and 55 at times. I'm really hoping eating good, weight loss, meds, and more activity clear the plaque as indicated. If so it should help me and be worth every penny. Will be no complaints.

It's long....about a 1/4 of a mile. We're in the process of getting a second estimate.

Strawberry season is in full swing up here. Unfortunately it doesn't last long (about two weeks). We bought two flats and made most of the fruit into jam. We, of course, kept enough out for several helpings of strawberry shortcake (yum!).
We had eight bags of cranberries languishing in the freezer that we made into whole berry sauce and then canned. It adds a bit of something special to our meals especially in the autumn and winter.

Another chilly morning. It's rained on and off for 2 days. Just damp, cool. I decided to stay home and exercise to a video. It's an 1.5 hours long of dumbbells. Last time I made 20 minutes. This time almost and hour. I told myself I'd do abs later. Ha. Not happening. My friend is in a Scandinavian club. They were having a Midsommars Celebration with pot luck. I had already eaten so I just had desserts and contributed nothing to the pot luck. I tried to get grandchildren to go but their parents were still working. I go to most things like this by myself.
The place where they had it was in an old time town where they have brought in historic buildings from various cities around the state.

Weeding, weeding and, you guessed it, more weeding. We finished yesterday just before it started to rain. It's still raining, off and on, today. Now I need to start on my neglected housework; seems there is always something that needs doing. I think a nap is a better idea.

Watching reports of wild fires all over the place. There’s smoke in the air, burn and firework suspensions in place, and mass public outreach by various agencies imploring the public to not light fires, fireworks, or do other dumb stuff with combustibles. Despite all that, I’m pretty sure there will be multiple dumbasses in my area setting off fireworks, lighting campfires and doing other dumb things over the holiday weekend, resulting in more fires.
I’ve updated my emergency evacuation kit for myself and the pets, just in case. Always fun to think about.

Took a 45 minute walk. Mowed the grass. This could have waited till later this week, however looking at the forecast today is supposed to be the coolest day for the next week.

Not only slow going but a tad on the dusty side. My next task is going thru all the dvd's that I have kept over the years with files from when I got first computer with dvd/cd drive (back in the dark ages). Pictures, documents, who knows what else etc - just need to open and see if anything is on them worth keeping.

Canned several pints of our version of razzleberry jam. We used marionberries, raspberries and blackberries).

A guy whose brother owned the old bank building I bought that is now the post office brought over some very old bank books. they are 1924 to 29 or some year. They are all hand written and has a lot of local older peoples name in them. They are pretty interesting to look at but somewhat fragile, hope he comes and gets them soon, I don't want to have stuff like that around. Now I think about it I have some other papers of his he brought over. Need to find them, they are on my desk somewhere. The local historical society wants them, but he is kind of odd so not sure he will give them to the group.

Today DD, DG2 and I are off to NYC. I've never been there, haven't flown for 10 years so a little nervous but I'm sure it will be fun. DD is going there for business but she will have some time off so hope to do some sightseeing. Unfortunately, we'll get there just in time for the heat wave, and I was looking forward to a little escape from Texas heat. Oh well.

How? All of them would have to be at least 120 years old? I don't know of anyone in there that is still alive. The historical society shows stuff like that. That bank was closed in the bank crashes.

I unpacked some more things, cleared off and polished the dining room table (yes, my living room is big enough to have a dining room in it), washed the table runner, and hung up some pictures. I feel productive. It's too hot to go outside, because it's like breathing in chicken soup. We have tornado warnings blaring from the TV.

I think stuff like this is interesting, but I think most of the stuff that the historical society displays has been donated by the families involved or are public records. It is very personal information. I wouldn't just shrug about it as you apparently would.

We aren't keeping the books. He brought them over for us to look at. they will be going back to his house. The guy can do with them what he wants, we are not involved in it. He just thought hubs might want to see them. I wish he had not left them. I have some other papers he brought over I need to return, not sure where I put them in my office. They are written down recollections of history of the area.
Right behind our house was where Harrison and troops marched through on the way to the battle of Tippecanoe, probably a couple hundred feet back there is a cemetery where one of his men was killed by Indians and is buried. We went back and looked one day, there are some very old tombstones back there. Hubs said when the neighbor owned that before the power plant bought it the owner didn't care and let cattle trample a lot of it. The historical society finally got involved and it was fenced but its gone now, but no longer cattle. There was Indian encampments all around here, lot of people have some very impressive indian arrowhead collections. We see people in the field behind us looking for arrowheads every once in awhile. The Indians controlled this and north a long ways along the Wabash until just before statehood in 1816. White people stayed out of here, when they tried to settle they were killed. Then blockhouses were built for them to go to even south of us for safety. Amazing that happened a few generations back.

Staying home and enjoying the beautiful weather (blue skies, temps in the low eighties). Being lazy, sitting on the front porch re-reading one of my a favorite books.

Nothing very exciting...mended a sweater and stitched up the holes in one of our cloth shopping bags, did a bit of ironing and paid a bill.

Spent the week visiting friends, they wouldn't let me buy lunches but I finally managed to buy one. Got home yesterday, today am recuperating from the drive and keeping DD's dog for the weekend.

Went to the post office to address a delivery issue and then to the credit union to have a claim form (Dodge EcoDiesel settlement) notarized. The only cost was for the gas used to get there and back. Boring but frugal.

Did a big errand loop this morning ending with lunch out. It's a gorgeous September day, sunny, temp in the low 70's with a nice breeze. It's perfect weather for line drying so after we got home I did a frugal load of laundry (cold water, etc.). Rain is in the forecast for the next several days so I'm taking advantage of nice days whenever I can.
