I also view it as teaching my kid conflict resolution. I don't want her thinking busting into a situation without all the facts and using threats is the way to solve problems that arise. Kids are observant, they pick up more than you realize thru osmosis.
I want her to understand there is a right way and a wrong way to handle problems. There are also different things you need to do depending on the severity of the issue. I don't want her thinking every problem is a major crisis.

She has no clue if Loony even knows this child or is a schizophrenic off her meds. Why is there any reason to take Loony seriously? Haven't we all asked this question at some point...? What question? If I am a schizophrenic? Is it an indirect insult? just asking.

So not true. Otherwise you suggesting that education of a child is based on personality of the parent. You are not saying that unfortunate kids who have crazy parents will be not thought as well as kids of TPO clique?
This goes on in all aspects of life too, Loony. If you are at an airport and there are major delays, you get MUCH more information if you are rational to the gate attendant than if you go off the rails and bitch at one because the weather is delaying planes right and left.
I remember being trapped in O'Hare (Chicago) during a snow storm. I was waiting to see whether or not my flight was canceled and the guy ahead of me was berating the gate attendant because his flight was not leaving on time. She kept calm and cool, despite the fact that the place was an utter zoo. But he was so nasty to her that she really didn't help him. I spoke to her, noted that our flight just got canceled and did she have any ideas as to when the next flight was going to be. Not only did she book us on the next flight, she managed to score us a hotel and meal vouchers until the flight left the next day.
It was NOT her fault that the weather was crappy, but how much help you get largely depends upon how polite and calm you are to those who do have the power. This is not much different. This happened almost 20 years ago, but I still remember it as a prime example of the old adage.....you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

I don't really stress on the method when it comes to protecting a child. I've done and said a lot of things that, in restrospect, could have been done differently. Sometimes the heat of the moment makes me imperfect. Again, it's probably best I don't have any kids. I'd be one of those nightmares I referred to earlier! It's hard enough taking care of my dog.
LOL!

I really don't think a principal would take any notice of a person who is not the parent.
Small children are let out to the toilet...but there are still accidents occasionally. If I was the parent I would have a quiet word with the teacher in front of the child to find out what happened and look for a way forward.
I'm a secondary teacher myself 11-18 and the rule is that they go to the toilet at break and not during the lesson. Some will have a note allowing them out of class and sometimes they get signed out if they are desperate. ( Its logged to make sure there isn't a pattern) At our place the pupils may want to go to the toilet, or:- have a bit of a break....meet up with friends...interfere with another class...damage another class....or truant....so they aren't allowed out of class and there are people patrolling the corridors checking their notes. If one goes, others want to go...then you don't have a lesson. The simple fact is that it is extremely disruptive to their learning...and to the rest of the class if they miss the important instructions.
Occasionally a parent will phone up and demand their child go whenever they want....but they aren't aware of how affects their child or the rest of the class.
Rules are usually in place for a reason...not just to be pedantic or cruel, so its important to get the big picture.

It sounds to me that Loony asked for an inservice for all the teachers to insure that such an incident never happens again. Is that what you asked the principal for Loony -- to meet with all the teachers?
I don't think the principal will send you an email but now they know there was a problem.

In the REAL world, not loony world, kids with whack jobs for parents are singled out. If you think parents/admins/staff don't talk, you really are crazy. It isnt to say they are treated worse but they are treated differently. I always watched myself and some kids whose parents were known whack jobs. So did every other teacher. An incident comes to mind of a dad who, we all think, was probably molesting his own daughter because he sure went around accusing everyone who had contact with his kid of doing so. Only when finally threatened with a lawsuit did he finally shut up, and actually took his daughter out of the school.

This happened almost 20 years ago, but I still remember it as a prime example of the old adage.....you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. though I don't see how any of what you wrote is relevant to whats in bold...I want to say that I am not usually the one to start. When I pick up the phone and I am asked to talk about energy rates I am politely (almost sexy) asking them 'would you, please, remove this phone number from your database?' and 1 out of 10 will apologize and hang up. However 9 out of 10 will try to continue the conversation trying to change my mind. Must I tell you how this is ending? It is not PG13. Also I had learned for years is that when you are talking to customer service people it is almost 99% of the times you will have to ask them to get to a superviser because if issue is little more complicated than 'my balance please' a lots of operators are becoming useless. Supervisers however behaving very well after yelling/cursing/treats etc. They return your money, refund you for more time then you originally anticipated to be refunded for, sending you gift certificates and calling your conversation 'delightful' and begging too call again anytime. I once was nearly getting manager's cell phone number. It was my cc processing center, we were almost related at the end. I don't know WHY people can't do this right from the start. it would save time and energy and than some. P.S. This post had nothing to do with OP. I was merely replying to Mich's 'politeness will take you far' manual above.

Very uplifting that some people out there understand what I did exactly how I had done it and what for. And no, I am not looking in my inbox for the email. I just wanted to make iceberg to move a bit. This school is going downhill from where it was and I would like it to stop. We need good schools to stay good.

Strangely, I've never had to go all PG-13 to get a solicitor to stop talking on the phone. I seem to always have the option of hanging up on them if they don't respond to my 'not interested'. Maybe it's just my phone that offers that option.

Isn't it odd that someone in a customer service business, has so little knowledge of customer service? Or even behavior? I wonder how long Dark would be in business if he went off on every customer? Even the ones who probably deserve it.

All phone calls are logged on the system at our place...including the swear words. The only thing you usually think is .....poor kid.
If its a child protection issue...they will be produced for the authority.

And what made you think I didn't know that? Because you go off the rails at absolutely everything. Because someone should be, don't you think so? Too many people on their warm asses doing nothing about nothing and being oblivious to the world. Maybe if I am the way I am it is because you (no one particular) are the way you (no one particular) are!

Btw, we never have an inservice for such a minor issue. The principal might say for teachers to keep an eye peeled for those kids too shy to ask to use the restroom, but I doubt it.

They have those phones you know...that call...same number more than once if they dial. I think yours does the same, doesn't it? Do you have an ability to stop that calling back on your phone? You lucky sonoffagan!

You could get elected on the governing body......or go in to politics. The other route would be to work there.....or join the PTA

And you make yourself look like an ass in the end. <shrug> I can't remember the last time I needed to act like an ass (yelling or cursing) to get my point across and get what I came for (usually a refund or service done correctly), and in my experience it backfires....exactly what happened at the airport to the guy ahead of me.

I never understood why people chose to homeschool their children. I was always worrying about lack of socialization and stuff like that. I totally get it now. Way too many landmines. I'd probably choose to do it myself. That way, if I acted crazy one day, I wouldn't have to worry about me treating my kid differently the next.
Kudos to all of you who navigate the mine field so well. I have it easy (except for the nail-clipping vet appointments).
