Well, you want this waitress to have made up a horrible note to appear as though she was discriminated against & gone seeking attention as a result of her mistreatment. Whatever actually happened, somebody did something that is just wrong. I don't see one wrong as better than another in this situation. Whether the note was written by the family, the waitress, or another coworker - I see all alternatives as equally repulsive. Vindicating the family just means someone else is a horrible person. That's not what I want at all. What I WANT to have happened is that one of her co-workers pulled what they thought to be a funny joke on her. I WANT to believe no malice was intended on anybody's part. You may want to ask me what I want before you assume you know. Fair enough. I just have a hard time envisioning how anyone would think that would be a funny stunt. I guess that is the least malicious possiblity though.

Angel...I guess I can see it happening. Maybe the waitress thought she got stiffed because the tip wasn't on the table. So she goes and says something to another worker - "Dang. That table of 4 people stiffed me for a tip!" So the co-worker, thinking they are cute, says, "Hey! Why don't I write a note like that other receipt that was all over the news just to make her laugh." And it backfires. Of course, nobody would probably admit that now.
It could have happened and right now it's just as valid a scenerio as any of the others produced. Do I BELIEVE that's what happened? Nope. But I wish it was. I wish it was meant to make somebody laugh and it backfired. I wish it wasn't intended to harm anyone.

I think it was something like this. "A massive racism hoax took place at Oberlin College in February 2013 in which two students made seemingly racist, anti-Semitic and other such posters, graffiti and emails for the purpose of getting a reaction on campus, not because they believed the hostile messages. At least one of the two was an Obama supporter with strong progressive, anti-racist politics. School officials and local police knew the identity of the culprits, who were responsible for most if not all of such incidents on campus, yet remained silent as the campus reacted as if the incidents were real. National media attention focused on campus racism at Oberlin for weeks without knowing it was a hoax." legalinsurrection.com/2013/08/the-great-oberlin-college-racism-hoax-of-2013/Some just like to stir up trouble when they are ready for trouble and will create it if they don't find it right there readily available while looking for it. I'm sure we all know people like that. This is just a larger scale of the same to me.

Sounds like besides the obvious problem......This douche has a little problem with the truth. What obvious problem? I don't see anything obvious about this mess except somebody did something despicable. Because somebody, somewhere says something about you, that doesn't make it true. That applies to this woman, as well. That's really what this whole discussion is about.

No it's so that fingers can be pointed at whomever's responsible for the nasty note - because it screams bigotry & hate.
The only reason "Christian" was brought into the discussion, was because of what was actually written on the scribbled message on the receipt.

workpublic - But you didn't say she was "possibly" militantly gay. You said, and I quote: "but because she's militantly gay he's afraid to do anything like fire her?" Your "possibility" is the owner/manager may be afraid to fire her (because as you say she is militantly gay). I guess I read the sentence you quoted a part of a whole: "maybe the family that are regulars spend a lot of money there, have been for years and the waitress is new and a general pita to the owner? but because she's militantly gay he's afraid to do anything like fire her?"As for militantly anything, are white, middle aged, Christian men (and women) militant because they have taken offense about something said and complained about it? If so, we have quite a number of 'militant' white, middle aged, Christian men (and women) on these boards. Is being militant about anything you strongly believe in a bad thing? mil·i·tant combative and aggressive in support of a political or social cause, and typically favoring extreme, violent, or confrontational methods.
There is a time and a place for everything, including being militant. If that is how you act with little to no provocation, in every day life... I don't find it very productive. It depends on what the person is trying to accomplish. I am a lot more willing to listen to your views when you present them civilly. In your face confrontation tends to turn me off, no matter how valid your point may be. So, if you're trying to garner support... yes, being militant about it is most likely a bad thing.

Let's see now. She was a former waitress at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, who told coworkers she had brain cancer, and shaved her head. She accepted "help" from the staff, and simply disappeared.
As far as being a Marine, she was dishonorably discharged from the Marine Reserves for failing to attend meetings.
Yep. I believe her story about being stiffed.

Even if it is proven to be false, it has now hit the internet, and people will forever cite it as fact.

Yep. I believe her story about being stiffed. Do you have links/proof that this server was dishonorably discharged, or "claimed" to have brain cancer?
I haven't seen any.
She did her job (at the restaurant - served her customers, and they accepted their food then paid their tab (minus the tip). What they left instead, was their hateful note.
No, I don't believe it was a hoax/another employee who scrawled the message. I believe it was the customers who left it - after getting good service -- due to their prejudice/bias/whatever you want to call it.
Did you see the uniform she was wearing? As I mentioned earlier, a lot of restaurants have a "uniform" for their wait-staff which includes a dress-shirt, necktie, and often black or dark pants/flat shoes - even for the female staff.

When I come across something I like, I will. Pinky promise. The Bay Area National Anarchists (BANA) anticipate a near-future race war ìn which all-white enclaves will have to be created. Some BANA members call non-white people 'zombies'. While I am pretty sure that was not your intention to select your avatar for that reason (and you state your avatar was for Halloween only), it did pique my curiosity regarding it.

If this was a scam to get money, adding the word Christian to the receipt was intended to rally people around her, and get more funds. You could never do any of this where I work. You couldn't bash someone for their lifestyle, and you couldn't bash someone for their religious beliefs. Just because someone doesn't agree with your lifestyle doesn't make them a bigot.

So the members of the Westboro Baptist Church are not bigots (let alone friggin crazy)? They claim to be Christians. Who is anyone to say they are not. At best, we can only say their thoughts, words and deeds are un-Christ like.

That is a tiny faction of people. Throwing out one small group as an example of an 100's of millions of people worldwide is just plain ridiculous. The example you cited is someone claiming to be. You can claim to be anything you want to be but it doesn't make it so. If you were to study the teachings of Christ, you'd find that he did not personally attack people like the woman caught in adultery or the woman at the well. He spoke to them, showed them compassion, and told them to change their lifestyles.

We have a few posters here who are pretty equivalent with Westboro members in their bigotry. And if we have some posters here with thoughts and words here like Westboro members, that means there a thousands and ptobably a few millions who think likewise. All one has to do ìs read readers comments posted after news stories regarding anything to do with gay ìssues. Some pretty hateful and bigotted comments. Westboro is simply the most visible of the bigotry.

It is ridiculous to translate a small group into being millions of people. You are lumping a small group of people into being the viewpoint of hundreds of millions. Purely ridiculous. I am well aware of Westboro. They tried to stage something at a funeral in Texas, and people turned out in such large numbers they were able to set up a human barricade to keep Westboro away from the funeral.

They are bigots - but not solely because of their disagreement of someone's lifestyle. They are bigots because of their hatred and they are assholes because of their actions.
