www.foxnews.com/us/2013/11/26/report-family-says-tipped-gay-waitress-didnt-leave-note-about-lifestyle/Report: Family says they tipped gay waitress, didn't leave note about 'lifestyle' Published November 26, 2013/ FoxNews.com waitresstip.jpg UNDATED: Dayna Morales, who works at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., says she was left a note criticizing her "lifestyle" instead of a tip. (MyFoxNY.com) A New Jersey couple is reportedly disputing a story that made headlines nationwide about a gay waitress who was left a note criticizing her "lifestyle" instead of a tip, claiming their receipt shows they did leave a tip and didn't write the note. Dayna Morales, an ex-Marine and server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, said she received the offensive note on a November 13 receipt. "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I don't agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life,” the message read. NBCNewYork.com reports that the couple, who asked to remain anonymous, contacted the station after the story went viral and produced a receipt that was apparently printed at the same time, on the same date, for the same amount, except with an $18 tip. The couple also produced document they claimed was a Visa bill, which indicated their card was charged for the meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55, the station reported. The couple told NBCNewYork.com they believe their receipt was used for a hoax. The husband said he didn't vote for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie because the governor opposes same-sex marriage. "Never would a message like that come from us," he said. Morales announced last week she would donate thousands of dollars in gratuities from supporters to the Wounded Warrior Project. She told NBCNewYork.com on Monday she did not receive a tip and insisted the handwriting on the receipt was not her own. The restaurant, which reportedly could not produce the original receipt nor explain why the family was charged for the tip amount, told the station it was aware of the couple's claims and that an internal investigation is ongoing. "I just felt like people have a right to know that -- it's fine of people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors, but they're doing it under a false pretense," the wife said.

But, carry on gnashing your teeth and condemning people for imaginary "Hate" crimes. Whatever promotes your agenda.

Wow! If this whole thing was a hoax, anyone involved needs to be dealt with quite harshly! There's no excuse for defaming others in an effort to grab your 15 minutes of "fame" (in this case, if this is true [and it sounds like it might well be], infamy). I hope this family seeks some sort of restitution for the damage that has been done them if the original claim was a hoax.

Who you talking to Shooby? Its been posted for 15 minutes. If she forged the writing or had someone else do it they both should be fired and the restaurant should put a note on the web donation page and insure all the money is donated to the Wounded Warrior project. Swamp would have to weigh in on whether she or the writer on the receipt could be charged with anything. Defamation of character would be hard to prove as no one knows who they are except possibly restaurant staff. Until and investigation finishes, I'll wait for a final conclusion. I did note the family said they were introduced to the server as Dan, so perhaps someone in the restaurant set Danya up from the start. I don't know. The only thing I noted is Danya said it wasn't her handwriting and she did not say anything like 'to my knowledge that's the original receipt' or something similar so its possible she suspects its been altered or knows something she declined to say on camera. I wonder what Shooby will say if it turns out it was a cruel prank by a restaurant employee who introduced the family to her as Dan and wrote the note on a copy of the receipt to yank Danya's chain. The truth is still to be determined. Even if the odds are high the family is indeed telling the truth, it is possible Danya is not the one who wrote on the receipt. There are hate crimes Shooby. No one ever said this one was one as there was no physical violence or destruction of property.

The original couple is anonymous, so I am not sure how much damage could be done to them. My general rule is that I do not beleive any picture I see on the internet and very few of the stories. It is just to easy to make shit up.

Mmhmm, how can they be defamed if you don't know their names? They chose to be shown in shadow so its possible locals who know them may guess, but I frequent the area and I have no clue who they are.

So, let's see, you can be outraged over the supposed outrageous hate crime but not outraged that someone makes up a supposed hate crime and tries to cash in? Um, yeah, sure.

While you don't know who they are, as you say some in the local area may know. It only takes one. To me, this is just something that is wrong in so many ways. Anyone who would do it should have to face the music for what they chose to do.

Are you insinuating that people cherry pick news stories which support their own ideas while ignoring those stories which don't support them. I never.

I don't do rush to judgment when things show up disputed until its resolved. You apparently are different. You assume the family is correct.
They might be, but its like deciding a court case before all the evidence is presented. Like I said there is a possibility she's been pranked, so until I know with reasonable certainity the truth I'm not going to get indignant one way or the other. I notice the family didn't go to the media immediately and then set up a follow up after their bill came in. Its been almost two weeks. I understand why they may have waited, but bottom line is it appears they didn't care enough to stop the bad press or contest it from day 1 or day 2. If I felt defamed, I would have started the counter-press earlier. I bet they could have had the CC company send something via mail earlier instead of waiting for the statement.

Some people prefer to make up both sides of the argument instead of actually listening and comprehending what people who don't have their opinion actually think. I guess its cheap thrills if you like playing with yourself or playing chess against yourself. Seems silly and lonely to me, but whatever...

Yawn! The current winter storm crossing the country heading east passed just to the south of us sparing the gay people who live in our area any transportation hardship.

Of course. This story served the agenda of the Left so who cares whether it is true or not? It served the purpose to spread the Hate Boogey Monster to everyone and that was soley the intent. So, truth be damned!

I am waiting for the truth. Apparently you are so entranced by your own agenda you aren't noticing what's being posted right here, right now.
I'm not part of the Left. If you want to be part of the Right or wherever go for it. Get some sleep, drink some water, something. Even if the original incident had been true it would have concerned one whole family. If you notice my original thread, one thing I was concerned about was whether it was a trend. And that it happened in central NJ. If its not a trend, good and if its a hoax not good.
I'm not going to scream and holler over it though just to make you or any conservative happy. Not going to happen. If you need someone else's reactions to make your life complete, you might want to rethink your life strategy. MHO.

I am not a handwriting expert, but I do see very strong similarities of the '$.55' in both receipt totals.

Of course you don't.....I wonder who it was that started the thread titled...and I quote... "Homophobe cheapskates strike again - No tip for NJ waitress" Yeah...I see no "rush to judgment" there. You condemned the family before knowing all those facts that you seem to want to "wait" for. Now...are they innocent? Who knows. Is the waitress guilty of making this up? Again...who knows. However, you started the family bashing thread so at least own up to not waiting "until all the facts are in".

From the NBC New York article: But a family contacted NBC 4 New York claiming their receipt from the restaurant shows they did leave a tip, and provided what they said was a credit card statement as proof.
Not sure how the news station doesn't know a credit card statement looks like..pretty simple stuff. Below is also from the article. They also provided a document they said was a Visa bill, which appears to indicate their card was charged for the meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55.
If you actually listen to the news segment the reporter says she has seen where the bank took out the $111.55. I guess the reporter is in on the dupe as well?

So is the family supposed to pay for this handwriting analysis? What if this never comes to that point? I suppose you'll just go on blaming the family in this situation since an (obviously disinterested - "I'm getting paid" third party) doesn't do the job? Would you consider a bank statement a disinterested party? Obviously not since apparently they brought one to the party.

Bank statements can be altered. I would like a disinterested third party (an expert in fraud) look at the bank statement.
It is not hard to alter documents. And you know Visa won't get involved in this.

For their privacy, they are going to block out the kind of information that would be verified in a court proceeding. The snippet I saw of the CC charge does not look like any CC statement I've ever had, but there are lots of Visa's so again like Tenn says it should be verified. I can withdraw any amount of money I want. Even a statement with blacked out information could be falsified. You'd need to know how the restuarant should show up name-wise on the CC statement and having the bank take out exactly $111.55 is odd. How common is it to have just one restaurant charge only on a CC and then pay it under two weeks from the date of service? Its possible they are lucky and their billing cycle falls that way, but again, to be verified IMO.
Not enough information, and not yet verified in any official way. The receipt appeared legit initially, it appears the family might be correct. However, once bitten twice shy applies here for at least me. Having confirmation from the CC company in question that the charge was made for $111.55 on that day and time and was not changed, i.e. charged once, no modifications of the amount, etc. would be part of my vetting process if I were verifying whether the couple is telling the truth or not.
