Update Well, I am only paid 1x per month, the last working day of the month.....so I just made my deposits. Any others windfalls I receive will get added later! Also, I am going to try and transfer whatever is left in my account on the day before payday to savings. This month it was only $32.99, but that was better than $0!! murphath 12/2/11 $554.50 (2/10/11 $22 WIRS7)
Up $47.50 this month. Not bad since my original goal was to hit $500. Since my Christmas shopping was done throughout the year with reg. budget $, this saving will continue for our DS's graduation celebration at Disneyland.
My Disney dollars now total $171 so we have a grand total of $725. I can get the two day park hopper passes through my union for @ $125. There are five of us so that's $625. DD1 may only be able to go for one day so that amount may go down to $560 or so.
This has been a fun challenge. Once we've done the trip, my Disney Visa will be retired and I'll go back to using my Amex card. I love using one card for everything and writing one check. And, yes, I do keep an excel budget sheet so we don't overspend. I've never paid a dime in interest to use a cc, but have certainly gotten some good rewards.

That is awesome you get good rewards on your VISA that you can use. I used to get great rewards on my debit card which I loved but that ended in July. Guess I need to do some research and find a different card that gets rewards.
That being said....what rewards card do others have? What do you find is the best deal out there? Any input would be great!

Wow, I didn't realize it had been so long since I updated. With two little ones now things are a lot busier plus we've been doing a lot lately. Our accounts have been taking some hits as I've been spending money like a drunken sailor but oh well. I'll need to tighten the belt and get back on the bandwagon for next year ASAP. I'll try and post my whole totals list for the year end post. Hope all is well with everyone!

twinmama: That's a smart move to save for next year. I don't know if this is possible for you because your kids are little and who knows what they will want next year, but the after Christmas sales are a great time to buy next year's Christmas p.j's etc. I do my shopping throughout the year when there are killer sales/clearance that I can combine with the merchants' discounts. We don't go crazy at Christmas but each gift is well thought out--if that makes sense. Also, my DH goes out and buys each kid (29, 25, & 21) a gag gift: usually a huge box of Cheez-its for DD!, a tub of licorice for DD2, and the most humungous bag of Skittles for DS. I think they like that gift the best!

Almost done for this year - I have some extra coming in since I filled up my 401K early, so my 2012 goals will get started early. I need to get back to where I don't like spending from savings - perhaps this should be a goal for next year! Good luck with the holiday spending everyone!

UPDATE:CaptainDuck 12/7/11 10199.72 (1/29/11 $2729.01 WIRS6)
Not a very big update this time, but up is up. My DH and I go all out for Christmas and we have a lot of people to buy for, so our Christmas budget of $2200 is never quite enough. For next year I better up our savings goal to $3000. It is nice that that amount was saved up and I don't have to stress about it, but I still have about $300 left to buy. Hope everyone is having a stress free pre-holiday.

Hi everybody! I can't seem to get to the old boards for instructions but I'd love to join the savers thread. Can anyone give me the gist of it? I really just want to track my EF savings progress and goals. Also, I could use the support of this board since I have trouble raiding my savings. I figure I can get some good tips to better discipline myself with savings. That is my achilles heal.

nightowl the one thing that really helped me was to put my savings in an online bank. That way I have to wait longer to get the money out usually 2 days.

So this is my last update for this year! Are we starting a new thread for next year or continuing this one? Overall I think I did pretty good essentially meeting all of my goals except for the Roth, which because of the way the IRS works I technically have until April 15 to decide how much to put in for this "year" so I will decide if I am going to increase that or not--not sure I want to take the money out of savings right now but will most likely take it up to a nice even 1000 at least!! DVM07 update 12/14/11 $9295 (1/1/11 $2023) Fund | Goals | Jan1st | Total Saved | YTD | Spent | % Met | General Savings | $3,000 | $1,203 | $2,957 | $1,754 | $0 | 98.57% | Tires | $300 | $25 | $306 | $281 | $0 | 102.01% | Presents | $400 | $141 | $383 | $242 | $0 | 95.67% | Taxes | $1,800 | $654 | $1,910 | $1,256 | $1,812 | 106.09% | Africa mission | $3,000 | $0 | $2,900 | $2,900 | $2,554 | 96.67% | Roth IRA | $2,000 | $0 | $840 | $840 | $0 | 42.00% | Total | $10,500 | $2,023 | $9,295 | $7,273 | $4,366 | 88.53% |

Hey Savers! As 2011 draws to a close lets stretch to meet our goals. As a Savers family, we have earned 103 roses so far. Can we make that 120 by the 31st?
Congrats to redracerris, murphath and dragon2008 who have already met their annual goals for 2011! Who will be the next to join this prestigious list?? YOU? I sure hope so!
What are your feelings about beginning 2012 with a new thread? dvm asked and I kind of like the idea. If you have an opinion to share, please chime in.

I searched around on my computer and found some of the old MSN Money WIRS introduction. If we decide to start a new thread for 2012, I can post it if we want to. To refresh your memory, here's a snippet...
WANT TO JOIN THE WOMEN IN RED SAVERS (WIRS)? Hello and welcome to the Women in Red Savers (WIRS) group! We are a supportive community group that celebrates reaching the personal savings goals of the WIRS members, whether we are women or men, currently “in the red” or “in the black.” This thread will give you basic information what our group is about, so please read all of the information provided below and then start posting! The purpose of the Savers group is to empower our members to take financial control of their lives by setting, tracking and achieving savings goals. If you're interested in a community of support, motivation, and inspiration, then this is the place for you.
As one part of the Women In Red, the Savers focus on encouraging members to save, no matter what your level of savings knowledge is. You may be starting on your first Emergency Fund or maxing out your retirement. It doesn’t matter to us, as long as you keep doing it. We feel that positive encouragement and motivation will help all of us to learn better savings habits, and accomplish those savings goals. A key part of saving is learning to incorporate savings into your daily routine – many of our members are also member of the No Spend threads or the Women In Red Racers. Savings is an integral part of paying off debt and changing your lifestyle, so no matter where you are in the process, this is the right place for you to be!
The WIRS - Women in Red Savers group is a TINY little sub-group of the larger Women in Red community because we are seeking the common WIR goal: Taking Total Financial Control! The same support, encouragement, motivation…and yes, sometimes “tough love” provided by the WIR is applied towards savings goals as well! And because the support and encouragement from a group with similar goals also serves to provide a sense of accountability in meeting our individual goals, what better way to approach this than promoting our own Savers group!!

I think when there is a new thread it makes it easier to find your info for the current year. Should have 2012 in the title though to distinguish the new thread from the old.
The info you found looks great!

Saving4Norway:I guess technically I made my goal of $500 for 2011. It was $544 at last report, not counting my Disney reward dollars. I'd love to continue in 2012. I'm just going to keep whatever I have at the end of December and use that as my start for 2012 since the goal is now to save as much as possible for DS's May graduation. I figure this may be the last time we'll be able to get all 3 kids together for a family vacation and it's been a very long time since we went to Disneyland. So, I'll be saving for: 2 night's hotel in San Diego for graduation: at least $250 Rental car for 1 week @ $300 4/two-day park hopper tickets @$640 1/1-day park hopper ticket (DD1 will still be in school the flwg. Monday ) $100 I have to come up with an idea re the cost of food, too. We will have a 2 bdroom suite type place closer to Disneyland (timeshare) so will be able to cook breakfast/prepare lunches to leave in D'land lockers. But I'd love to eat at The Blue Bayou by the Pirates of the Carribean. That place is expensive: @$50 per entree. Crazy, I know. Well, looking at all this, I have the tickets covered (using the Disney rewards, too) but not much else. Guess I'll have to get cracking!
