fresh I know but that is the only house I've liked so far. I hate that the price keeps going up but I really like that house. So now I have to start all over and save for my upgrades again. It will be a little while before they get to that lot anyway. So I have time to save some more $.

DH has had more work lately, so we were able to put some income into savings. Finances are stressful lately. I have felt that we are struggling to just make our bills. DD is going to need eyeglasses at the least and possibly eye therapy; therefore, I'm changing the DD braces category to DD medical. DH has a new spot on his back that I'm concerned may be a new skin cancer. Our vacuum that we just bought 4 months ago broke. It was a $50 one. The vacuum co. is going to send us a part. It has been 2 weeks since the carpet has been vacuumed. I'm wondering how long it will take for the part to come. I am tempted to buy another low end vac or just tear out all this carpet which is horrible anyway. I'm stressed, but at the same time grateful that we were able to make a bit of headway with savings. Best wishes and good luck to all savers!

sealy that's a bummer about the increase, is there still pretty high demand that they would increase the price? Cross my fingers for you that the price drops again as you are saving and as they are nearing your lot! freshnewday back at yah and great news on DH getting more work I'm not going to say how long it's been since our carpet has been vacummed hehehe...sorry you are feeling stressed out with finanances and DH's and DD's health concerns, but things will look up! Just keep plugging away at it even if it's small amounts at a time.

I've added my sixth to the list: Deck & Garden, Home Repairs, Plays 2012, Car Needs and House Painting are joined by Gifts & Holidays! Any extra money has been going to my non-tracked accounts like Slush Fund and Mortgage Paydown (and Pilates). I'm trying to get my Vet Bills fully funded before I need to start withdrawing, but I don't think that will happen. I'm also planning for next year - some big plans are up in the air and I may need to add a Hobbies account (I've got to find something to do with my spare time besides reading!). Hope everyone is doing well. Only three and a half more months until 2012!

WIRSavers, I'm so sorry for falling off the reporting wagon. Once school stuff started in August it was all I could do to simply tread water. I'm starting to get all your wonderful updates organized and I promise to get them posted soon.

Hi all! It has been an eventful month, for sure!! Being a financial geek, and a new homeowner, I was kindof excited to receive our school tax bill. When it never came, I did some digging, and called the school district... although it defies logic, we actually have a zero balance for the 2011-2012 school tax bill. And, there's a chance we won't have a property tax bill in January either. The city's status date for the next tax year is May 1st... we didn't close on the house until May 13th, and it was a HUD/foreclosure house... which means the federal government doesn't pay taxes. And no one goes back and retroactively changes the statuses of houses that are sold to update the tax rolls. So... we lucked out. Big time!! So, we took the entire chunk of money we had saved for the school taxes, and with the savings we'd already set aside for the roof, paid off the credit card bill early. We got the credit card points for the roof bill, a new roof, and some extra financial breathing room! I am continuing to save for property taxes due in Janaury, since I don't want to assume that good luck will strike twice. I'd much rather be happily surprised that we've saved the money, but don't need it, than the other way around!! I'm going to keep saving at the rate I had been doing prior to paying off the roof. The money we save between now and 12/31/11 will go partially to a lump sum paydown to the mortgage, partially to bumping up our emergency fund a bit more, and then either to creating a house-specific emergency fund or to the car fund. I don't think we're going to hit that goal this year, but it's a long term one anyway, so it's alright. Also, if my new half-time job turns into a full-time position like I'd hope eventually, we won't have to buy a car when DH retires! The bus route runs about 1 block from our house, to about 2 blocks from my half-time job. So, if that comes to be, there's a very good chance we could be a one-car family for a good while!! I have to start thinking about my 2012 savings goals... I need to start saving for SS's college again. And, I want to create a car/house/life insurance fund for all those payments. It'd be great to have the money set aside, pay those bills annually, and be able to forget about them for 6 months to a year at a time. I should probably start that now, since it'll need time to grow before the next car insurance bill is due in early February! Anyway... I hope everyone is well, and enjoying our slow descent into fall! I'm looking forward to the pretty leaves, but I'm not too keen on the cold weather yet!! 2011 Accounts | Due | Goal | 8/30/2011 | 9/22/2011 | Need | Saved | | New Roof | 9/1/2011 | $5,500.00 | $5,014.24 | $5,500.00 | $0.00 | 100.00% | | Taxes - School | 9/1/2011 | $3,700.00 | $3,645.98 | $3,700.00 | $0.00 | 100.00% | | New Car | 12/31/2011 | $5,000.00 | $2,988.88 | $2,988.88 | $2,011.12 | 59.78% | | Taxes - Property | 12/31/2011 | $3,000.00 | $0.00 | $555.00 | $2,445.00 | 18.50% | | Total | | $17,200.00 | $11,649.10 | $12,743.88 | $4,456.12 | 74.09% | |

Does anyone know the easiest way to do updates without the ugly TD and TR crap?! It is such a waste of time.

Busybee - I used someone elses excel template that they posted. I have it saved then when I want to post I just go in and change the numbers since last post, re-save, then copy and paste. I never have to mess with the trs or tds.
Feel free to send me your e-mail in a private message and I'll e-mail it to you. That goes for others here, too.

Speaking of posting... I haven't in a couple of months. Fund | Goals | Last Month | This Month | % Met | Roses | Norway | $3,000 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | | Denmark | $3,000 | $0 | $1,000 | 33.33% | | Vehicles | $2,000 | $2,000 | $2,000 | 100.00% | August | Gifts&Donations | $1,500 | $1,500 | $1,500 | 100.00% | May | Harley Trip 1 | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 100.00% | April | Harley Trip 2 | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 100.00% | June | The Keys | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 100.00% | June | Cultural | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 100.00% | March | Vacay Prop | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 100.00% | February | Christmas | $500 | $500 | $500 | 100.00% | May | Oleana | $500 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 200.00% | February | Quilting | $500 | $500 | $500 | 100.00% | January | Fun Stuff | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | 100.00% | July | TBD | $0 | $0 | $0 | | | TOTAL | $17,000 | $11,500 | $12,500 | 74% |
I'm at that time of the year when all the saving I've been doing is now flying out the door faster than a speeding bullet. It's kind of sad for me. My money and I have become good friends and it's kind of depressing to see it go away. Sure I'm spending it on the exact things I had been saving it for, but still. There's something about a fluffy saving account that is peaceful and calming. Life's little ups and down seem easier to take in stride when I've got a healthy savings account. (No wonder why so many divorces happen in homes with tight budgets and paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyles!) Just another reason to be thankful for the lessons my parents taught me when I was a kid, I guess. Thanks mom & dad!

Checking in with an update. I am not as far as I hoped I would be in a few areas considering the quick start I had this year, but we are still making progress. We are also saving for some work on a water issue in our basement that will cost around 2k. I guess it is all the random expenses that are slowing us down! To all: GReaT UPDaTeS!!! WoW! Pointy & Saving4Norway: Look at all those roses! Very impressive! Update: DD needs a palate expander and we will start the process October 4th. The orthodontist gives a 5% discount if you pay for everything up front. DD's first round of testing for her vision will be about $360. I will be moving the money saved for a car to DD's medical category on my next update. The vacuum co. sent us the wrong repair part. So, it has now been close to 4 weeks since the carpet has been vacuumed, and it is absolutely awful. I'm hoping the part will come in the next two days. I am seriously beyond ready to get rid of this worn carpet. I woke up early and couldn't go back to sleep thinking about it. (I borrowed a vac from a friend, but when we turned it on, it smelled somewhere between a smelly wet dog and an outhouse. So, we turned it off and didn't use it.) tobinikui: You are a smart one! Cheering with you for the tax savings this year!!! SaverBee:: Thank you for the kind, encouraging words! I needed that!

Update: CaptainDuck 9/28/11 9989.14(1/29/11 $2729.01 WIRS6)
Another smaller update this time. Sooo close to $10,000. It seems like there are all kinds of unexpected expenses right now, in addition to the traditional fall things like taxes. I am just paying regular payments on my debt reduction also, so that has slowed down too. On the other hand the credit cards that I had paid down to 0 are still at 0 even though it's taking up the extra that I have available for extra bill reduction.

Freshnewday Sorry about the extra medical bills, I know those add up quick. I understand about not having a vacuum. I have 2 indoor labs and 2 indoor cats that all are shedding like crazy. It would drive me nuts without my vacuum.

Updates are amazing!
Two of my yearly bills have come in lower than what I saved, so I'll be rolling some dough into the 2012 goals, although I had a brief moment of grabbing the money and heading out to shop - frightening! I don't want to spend anymore from my savings, but I know there is so much more left in the year that will draw down my savings (christmas, house insurance, my new glasses (trifocals - eek!)). I want fluffy savings again!

freshnewday: I'm happy to hear you have found the funds for your DD's medical issues. Sounds like she has something similar to my DD1's choppers: she had to wear a "binater (sp?)" for a year, then had 4 teeth pulled, and then the braces. All in all, it worked out very well and her teeth are beautiful. Since I know all the work she had done, I can see how bad it would have been had we not done it in a timely manner. No one else notices, but I can see how her lower jaw definitely needed to be stretched and the upper one stopped. You have really come so far and I've enjoyed your posts. Re carpet: mine is the original to the house--27 years old and very much in need of replacement. Every time I vacuum, I swear at it because I hate it so much! But we can see the light at the end of the tunnel as our last child will graduate from college in May 2012 and we can begin to replace our flooring. Can't wait to start saving for that--seems like we've been paying tuition, room & board forever. But all 3 have been worth every single penny. ;D

It has been a crazy few months, which is why I haven't been checking in regularly. A tree fell on our house in August, which necessitated an 11 day hotel stay. We have renter's insurance, which covered the loss of household property, though. And lots of drama with my in-laws... But I am back in school now, YAY. I am getting a partial GI bill, so that's $700 per month, and I also got a Pell Grant, so that is good as well. Now, it is up to me to find time for schoolwork!

UpdateSo just like that the dream dies and any hope of making our annual goals is gone. Ugh. Last month we made the least that we have ever made. Our mortgage took half of it and then bills, groceries, etc. Soooo, the only one of our funds that got any love this month was our car insurance, which is a real HAVE to. I'm totally bummed. murphath: 10/3/2011 $432 (2/10/11 $22 WIRS7)
An increase of $74 this month. I'm happy with that--got some great rebate checks and found a $20 bill on one of my walks.
I'm also going to include my Disney card reward $ because we can use those for Disneyland tickets etc.: To date, I have $160 worth of Disney dollars. That's enough for one 2-day park hopper pass.
If I add that to the above, I have $592. $708 to go--don't know if I can make it by May 2012 but we'll give it a good try.

Babybear19: 10/5/11 $6,906.40 (1/1/11 $0 WIRS2) Total Saved Since January $6,906.40 Total Saved Since last update $698.97 I seriously don't think I posted last month. I've been in a huge whirlwind. My ex FINALLY came and moved all of his stuff out of my house (after he threatened me, I told him he had 1 day to come get it all or I was getting rid of it myself) This has been going on for MONTHS, so I'm glad that is finally over. My new guy and I are getting along GREAT! So much so, that we've actually talked about the possibility of marriage! This is the first time EVER that I've been SERIOUS about that topic. May seem soon to some people, but the way I see it, people don't know me or my life (even those people that THINK they know me---not talking about family here, though!) so they really shouldn't judge. Doesn't stop them from doing that anyway, though. So, my savings goals are going to change soon with wedding talk, baby talk, selling houses and buying a new one together talk......... For now, I am leaving the categories the way they are and will change them as needed. Hope everyone is doing well!!

Update coming soon. I want to save $2,000 each month towards my house for the next three months. I'm seriously thinking about using the money I was trying to save for an extra room to get landscaping and a cement fence in my backyard. I am more excited as they get closer.
