Because I wanted to know what time my husband would be home? I was making him lunch - I wanted the bacon to be hot. Wait - that couldn't have been yesterday. I was at work yesterday. What day is it? So you use algebra daily but don't know what day it is? ;D

If it would help I could probably find a study somewhere that shows you burn more calories having sex than you do riding a bike. That might help the sitting around waiting for your husband to come back from bike rides problem. It should be more fun than doing algebra too... unless you're wired really really funny.

You have no idea how many hours I sit around waiting for him to come back from his bike rides. Seriously, my life is frickin' depressing right now. I have got to figure this out. I would have just taken a guess and if he wasn't home on time, I would eat his bacon.

I was somewhat joking Thyme. Although I have stopped trying to time my cooking to when dh is ready to eat. Ds and I would starve waiting for him. For a birthday I would probably go to more effort to have hot food ready. Today is dh's birthday. I didn't make him breakfast, and I'm taking him out to dinner. He had to fend for himself and the kiddo all day. Maybe I am heartless. Oh well.

Yes, she did, but she was seemed very happy to help her succeed. She talked to us after the meeting to get Jess up to speed and let her know what to expect from the LA portion of the day.

True, but in sixth grade they're learning algebra. They call it algebraic concepts now, but they're learning the same thing I did in junior high and we used to just call it algebra. She'll do algebra and geometry in junior high. Then algebra II, calc, and trig in high school. That means 5th grade is the last year to make sure they've got all the basics down before they move into higher math. Which is part of the reason I think they don't introduce any new math learning objectives in 5th grade. They want to make sure they've completely mastered simple math. She won't get that. Now, her test scores say it won't matter because she already knows it, but I can't help but worry a little. She's my baby girl dang it. Just a couple years ago I was giving her horsey rides around the living room. She can't be ready for algebra already. Right? Is anybody ever really ready for algebra? Algebra is common sense... Differential Equations is the shit you need to worry about!

DH was home schooled all the way through, so he got to work at his own pace and his parents were great about adding in challenging activities (socially, athletically, academically). I was in public > private > home > public. By the time I got to my Jr year an was back in public school I was BORED. I ended up convincing the school to let me graduate a year early and get on with my life. The counselor was really concerned that I would miss out on all of the social aspects of being a senior, but since I was not really a partier I didn't miss out on anything at all. I was much happier in college even though I was 17. I ended up graduating college a year early too because it wasn't extremely challenging so I would take 18-21 credits per semester + jan term & summer classes to keep myself occupied. I majored in math just because it was interesting and honestly the first thing that was challenging. I am leaning more towards home school for DD just so that she can work at her own pace (faster, slower). But we will do school year-round. I don't really see the benefit in having 3 months off. Around here there are plenty of sports teams just for home school kids, dances & other get togethers, challenging classes, etc so I am not worried about her social skills at all.

We don't do 3 months off... and i do some things year round, but my younger kid likes summer camp, and they run an 8 week day camp here, so we usually consider those weeks 'summer'... I try to do math year round, although not as 'intense' because i don't think large breaks are good for retention.
We had 2 moms just join our homeschool group that were both homeschooled themselves...

If only you had a nice spouse that took 3 seconds to do something nice and show you how much they love you - instead of these jerks who won't even take the time to think through your situation and then just eat all your bacon.

I should have done that. I did take a bunch of challenging classes my senior year - in fact, it was probably my hardest year - but I was making up for the easy classes I took freshman and sophomore year. If I'd gotten my shit together sooner I could have gotten the same benefit in three years instead of four - and I hated high school so that would have been awesome.
It just never occurred to anyone at the time. Everyone else in my high school did four years - two easy followed by two hard. That's just how it worked. Now, my kids - if they can be fast-tracked through high school and they want to be, I'm all for it. For the most part, I think school is an enormous waste of time.

Hmmmm..... where can I find one of those? ;D Mine hasn't had it occur to him yet that making me bacon would be a good thing. He does do dishes, laundry and other housework so I will just keep cooking my own bacon.

If only you had a nice spouse that took 3 seconds to do something nice and show you how much they love youI'll make DH bacon. I don't eat it because he won't wake up, I eat it because fresh hot bacon is yummy and no one will notice a missing piece. Then next thing I know the entire plate is gone. I've learned to make a double batch.

What's so great about bacon? I don't get it. It's salty and slimy and slippery... ugh.

You're not cooking it right if it is slippery and slimy.
