Two weeks ago, retailer Coach (COH) stated that they were shifting their reliance on China from 80% to 50% by taking production elsewhere. It is startlingly clear that western firms have a busted model and are scrambling like chickens with their heads cut off to avoid being mowed down in this ambush. This China.org story describes labor difficulties in the interior and western provinces as well. There are plenty of whack-a-mole stories like “Crisis-hit Bangladesh Turn to Sri Lanka“ for “analysts” who bother to look. If Asian platforms think they can bridge the gap by exploiting cheap labor in India, guess again as New Delhi pushed through 17-30% wage increases for 50 million workers because of inflation. The NYT filled in the rest of the story:

Trying to move production elsewhere, some retailers are finding many factories are already fully booked: Vietnam and Thailand each have populations smaller than some Chinese provinces, while Cambodia and Laos have smaller populations than some Chinese cities.

Vietnam is cited by some as as prospect for food riots and civil uprising.

The problem with sweat-shop labor country populations becoming aware of platform business control and manipulation is-- we will never be the haven of last resort without ANY industrial infrastructure to attract it. How ironic will it be when we become the place for manufacturing such items again and be a knowing people who take all of those platform criminals into custody, throw them and their kin into dark chambers and just operate those businesses the way they originally were designed to run.
We might actually see a flight to quality at a price workers can afford again!

I know what I'm saying my friend. Did you know that industrial investment in the US was the highest it's been since 2007 last year, and that last year was the first year there was a net increase in manufacturing jobs since 1997? All of this will increase and China will have to push consumerism big time now if they want to keep things in line.

we are getting a rapidly increasing amount of work helping American companies shut down their operations in China. Rising wages in China, coupled with a rising Renminbi and rising costs overall are causing American companies to reaccess China and many are determining they can operate more cheaply and/or efficiently from the United States or elsewhere. I am absolutely convinced this is a trend that will hit warp speed very soon, particularly as I believe China will be forced to increase the value of currency to combat inflation.

Note the part about setting it up so that you can come back when there is a bigger consumer base and make money in China selling to Chinese people!!!!
