"Apple cider vinegar contains valuable minerals such as Phosphorus, Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Iron, Magnesium, and Chlorine. It also contains Sulfur, Copper, Silicon, Fluorine, Pro vitamin beta-carotene, Pectin and malic acid.
Weight loss--- A study published in the Journal of Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry showed that both body fat and the serum triglyceride levels decreased in the subjects taking 30ml of ACV with breakfast compared to those taking just water.[3]
Another study on mice showed that consuming Acetic Acid (the active component in ACV), up regulates the expression of genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes in the liver causing a suppression in body fat accumulation.[4]
Acetic acid has been found to suppress fat accumulation in a study involving animals, and therefore another test was done on people to back this up. In a double-blind experiment, obese Japanese were assigned to three different groups based on similar body weights, body mass indexes (BMI), and waist circumference. Each group drank a 500ml drink containing either 30ml,15ml, or 0ml of vinegar daily for 12 weeks. Those in the 30ml and 15ml groups had lower BMI, visceral fat area, waist circumference, serum triglyceride, and body weight than the control group of 0ml. Thus it can be concluded that consumption of vinegar might reduce obesity.[5] Pills can also be taken, although there is much evidence against there being value in taking the pill version, as ACV pills are not regulated and may vary dramatically in terms of ingredients from brand to brand.[6]
Hmmmm.... BACON in a thread titled: 15 pounds, 15 weeks. Yummm.... Apple Cider Vinegar (tastes terrible straight up, but...) vitamin and mineral packed. A swig a day makes fat decay. The topic is-- weight loss? Swamp... my spouse still fits in that latex and looks as good as your avatar does in them. Very little DIETING, a lot of focus on a good fuel fare and stable exercise regimen. You know... I'd rather wince at a swig of something healthy than to be addicted to something that tastes great and threatens my stamina, metabolism or ability to fend off illness.
Bacon... sit-ups... good for getting the pistachio shells out of the belly rolls.

I have to second that. I've mentioned my grandma's love for REAL butter before. Followed closely by bacon.
She's turning 95 next month and grandpa just turned 95. They still live in their own house and are really healthy (for 95).
I'm not advocating a high fat diet, I'm just seconding the everything in moderation.

Apple Cider Vinegar is good for a lot of things. I don't think anyone is disputing that. I am saying that fixing the brussel sprouts in bacon grease once a month is not going to harm her kids. It will probably just make them more open to eating different kinds of vegetables which is a very good thing. Once a year in summer at the height of tomato growing season, I serve BTL's for dinner. I use whole wheat bread, romaine lettuce, home grown tomatoes and yummm, bacon. We all enjoy it and I don't think I'm killing anyone.

It doesn't matter - everything everyone is doing is just wrong, wrong, wrong. I was counting calories and apparantly that is wrong. Someone is losing weight, and that wasn't good enough. Eating things in moderation - nope, you must eliminate every single thing that is white - no exceptions - ever. Oh, and by the way, Veteran knows that my kids aren't active enough. I don't know if he knows me in real life, or stalks my kids or whatever - but he knows what he knows - and the rest of us should nut up and take his advice. PERIOD.
Oh thank you, thank you, thank you kind sir for coming here and correcting the errors of my ways. If only I could download your brain right into mine and I could just worship you and do everything perfect as you suggest. Right now I'm standing as I type and pressing my leg against the desk so I get resistance - that will tone me up and make me perfect in your eyes.

Lucky for Thyme, you can't "hide me" like you do on Facebook... yet another something you do sitting without exercising your metabolism. You've started SEVERAL threads on dieting, weight loss and related topics but reading what you post tells us all that YOU have no interest in actually losing weight at all. I'm not stalking you. I think you're REALLY PHONY. On the flip-side, I take my health very seriously. Frugal Nurse has the right idea... weights and cardio. Pretty soon she'll see results that by-their-own-merit will help sculpt her to the shape she wants to be seen in. I also eat bacon. I burn my food off as fuel so... I can pop a lot of M&M's in me and not post that my stomach is queasy. My point is--- if dieting magically actually did what advertisers said it would, people would only buy the cheapest version once and be set for life afterward. WORK IT, baby. BTW... try baking yellow potato [fries] in some EVOO and Sea Salt. If you cut them the night before and soak them in ice water and VINEGAR, then pat dry them before baking, you get a really crispy outside and tender moist inside without the artery-clogging heart-arresting fat-generating aspects you get with frying, especially in all that bacon grease.
See you on the beach girls. I look like Hugh Jackman, but I'm healthier.

By advertisers, do you mean the 90%+ of medical professionals who say how weight loss is caused by controlled caloric intake?

By advertisers, do you mean the 90%+ of medical professionals who say how weight loss is caused by controlled caloric intake? Deb says it's caused by eating 3 pounds of meat and 1 pound of spinach each day. OK, back on topic. Do I leave work early to hit Zumba? My butt hurts from Ultimate Cardio Tuesday, I did Zumba on Mon and Wed, I'll do Ultimate Cardio tomorrow, and will do Zumba on Fri. And tonight is hockey, so I'll rush home from Zumba, throw hockey equip on DS, drive back to town, and stand there at hockey when I'm all sweaty still. I think I'll pass.

You must have missed some of my posts - I'm currently doing a weight and cardio routine that incorporates plyometrics resistance. In addition to that, I include active family activites, such as fairly long bike rides, hiking, jumping on the trampoline and playing basketball or soccer. I won't count horse-shoes and bocce ball, but once summer kicks up we will probably reduce the basketball and add in a good hour of swimming each day. I don't actually count any of that as "exercise" because I don't goal set family time - I just enjoy it at whatever pace we are moving that day.
So, think I'm a phony all you want - but here you are giving me a big lecture on eating bacon, and then you come back and say you eat bacon and M&M's.
Go ahead - attack my exercise plan and contradict yourself again. Do you ever get dizzy from changing your story so much?

Swamp -- I'd skip today too. You'll still get in 5 classes this week which is plenty.
MM -- increased caloric expenditure can be helpful, no question, but it's not essential. You can lose weight without increasing caloric expenditure by simply reducing caloric intake.

Technically, if you have severely reduced caloric intake for a long period of time, you will continue to lose weight. It isn't healthy. Many anorexics eat 500 calories a day. Absolutely uncool. And before "someone" tells me that I'm encouraging this - I am not!

True. You caught me. I'm a big phony. I sit at my desk eating 5 pounds of bacon a day, I never move around and I weigh 400 pounds. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Weight loss has nothing to do with exercise and calorie control. I don't plan to lose 15 pounds - I plan to gain 15 pounds - HA!
