I'm in too! I started on 01/01/11 and am down 3 pounds (actually 5 but I'm not counting the first two-water weight). I really need to lose about 40 pounds but it's probably been 15 years since I was at that weight. In any case, any weight loss is a positive step for me. I just cut out alcohol and sweets. Started physio 2x week + 1 hr walk 1x week. I walk to physio and back so that's an extra 4miles per week. When I'm done with physio I'll join the local gym and add spin classes.

I'm checking in. haven't made it to the gym since I've been sick, but I did play my hockey game last night.....and damn, it's been a long 2 weeks since I've skated. I also missed my weekly weigh-in for the weight loss support thread, but I will be on the ball for next weekend. I subscribe to the "eat when/if I'm hungry, sleep when/if I'm tired" vein of thought when I'm not 100%, so I honestly have no clue what the scale has to say right now. hope everyone's doing well this week.

Hmm, I could have sworn I posted on this thread. Whatever.
I'm in. I'd down 7 pounds since 1/10. The plan is to cut simple carbs and no snacking. And hit Zumba class at least 3 x per week.

You girls rock! Great results already!
I started 1/17/2011 and am holding steady at 3lbs loss so far. I feel good about this because I held steady over the weekend despite my DH making his clam dip and dining out twice over the weekend. When he made his clam dip, I counted out 14 Lays ruffled potato chips (lesson from Weight Watchers) and measured out 1/4 cup of clam dip (he used fat free cream cheese). One night we split a meal at a Greek restaurant. My real challenge came at the Chinese buffet. I served one reasonable serving of a few of my favorite Chinese dishes and did not go back for any seconds. In other words, I stuck to my "Diet of One."
I feel like my "Diet of One" is something I can live with, as it allows me to eat normally w/o cutting certain foods out. We'll see how it works for a month. If that doesn't work, I'll consider something else.
Meantime, I couldn't walk today, because I took my 89 year old Mother to the Dentist. I will resume my Mall walking tomorrow.

In the past week, I have kept my calorie count down below 1800 for 6 days. Saturday I went to a party and had potato chips and M&M's for dinner - oh and beer. There is a meal plan to be handed down from generation to generation. We also worked out last night. I thought I was going to barf. I am really out of shape.

I am definitely in. I thought I needed to lose 15. Got on the scale this morning. Up 2.5lbs from where I thought I was.

I am so in too. I have not been tracking weight, but started my excercise and cutting calories and certain things out of my diet. If I lose 15 pounds that would be my ideal weight. 1/24/11 = 157 lbs.

I need to remember to jump on the scale tomorrow so I can get a starting weight. I think I know what I'm up to, but I gotta be sure..

Today I walked 2.25 miles at the Mall and kept to my Diet of One. About 2 hours after dinner, my DH made popcorn and I ate ONE small bowl. It filled me up.
Night time is my worst time for overeating. In the day time, I don't get very hungry and eat only because I know I should. I start getting hungry about mid-afternoon, so I eat ONE 100 calorie snack and have ONE small glass of wine.
Tonight I cooked some flounder. My favorite low-cal way to fix flounder is:
Dip dried fillets in plain yogurt. Then batter them in a mixture of crushed cracker crumbs, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and a little lemon zest. Next, I place them in a baking dish, drizzle w/olive oil and dot w/low cal margarine, cover w/foil and bake until they spring back when touched quickly w/my finger. I uncover them and bake a few minutes longer just to brown them slightly. They are delicious!

Night time is your worst time for over-eating? What do you have for breakfast? Nothing or just coffee? You crave at night if your daytime meals were too light. You eat steady is small amounts throughout the day and watch your fat waste away. It's about METABOLISM. You gain weight sitting on the 'puter, watching TV and driving around. Offset these through movement. When I watch TV, I ride my Airdyne (not fast, just half fast) so I'm moving while grooving on my favorite show. BTW... 1800 calorie diet? We used to eat lettuce and oranges while wearing plastic suits and running an indoor circuit to qualify for wrestling weights. BEST WAY to let your health decay. Your body will consider it an attack and store fat just in case you try it again. Pear-shaped? Losing on top AND rear? Now you know where your FAT is stored! Wear it away and rebuild the way you want to look. After getting to your favorite weight, use sculpting moves to shapen yourself.

I walked 2.25 miles today and avoided the free breakfast bar at the car dealership where I had my car serviced. Eating my usual breakfast of toast and a protein helped me avoid all the pastries and goodies at the breakfast bar.
With DH out of town, I baked a chicken breast and potato for supper. I steamed some broccoli to go with it.
Tomorrow's going to be a challenge. My friend is taking me to lunch and insists on going to a buffet. I will load up on vegetables and try to stick to my "Diet of One." Lunch will be the main meal of the day. I'll eat light at dinner.

"Night time is your worst time for over-eating?"
That is pretty common. A lot of people do stuff all day - go to work, run errands, drive the kids around - and then come 8 pm, they sit down on the couch and watch a little tv to relax. Many people have connected sitting on the couch, watching tv and snacking (or really eating.) If you just watch an hour of tv, you could shove hundreds, if not thousands of calories into your gullet. You aren't really paying attention to eating - it is just a mindless push of a huge bowl of ice cream, 10 or 12 cookies or whatever. You could eat appropriately all day, and not even be hungry, but just have a pavlov reaction to turning on the tv: "Gee, it must be snack time."
I watched Biggest Loser on Tuesday. The big guy said his favorite pizza place delivered a pizza every night at 8:30. He didn't have to call and order - they just sent it over. And every night he ate a whole pizza. This wasn't dinner. This was his after dinner snack. It wasn't because he was hungry. It was just a habit to eat at that time.

My wosrt snacking time is anywhere between 8 and 5pm. Work kills me. The candy jars on the desks, the goodies in the lunchroom. Right now there are chocolate cover macadamia nuts (my favorite) in the lunchroom. They've been calling my name all week- but I SHALL NOT ANSWER. THough everytime someone brings them out, I put them away so I don't have to look at them when I go in for water.

214.0 this morning -- 1/2 a pound gone. Slowly but surely.
I tend to overeat at night as well, but I have gotten a lot better about avoiding temptation.

Water, water and water (keep flushing). When at work it isn't what you eat, its what you do with what you eat. There are a number of great isometric exercises done at desks. Why? Because you need to trigger your metabolic rate when you eat, so it burns off fat and flubber. You can easily (and without drawing attention to yourself) do isometrics that target specific areas. A great one is the arm stretch... as far as you can for as long as you can. Why? It won't make your arms longer but it will target muscles associated with supporting your arms as they stretch. Strangely enough, those same muscles develop the area under breasts and firm them up. The same applied to leg extensions. You know you're doing something right when you feel a residual counter-effort in the desired area when finished. My store is on the second floor (no elevator). I don't just do a lot of steps every day, I do a lot of steps in different ways to get better usage from the activity. When I'm carrying stuff (up or down) I'll hold things differently to target. You can Weight Watch all you want, activity impacts metabolism, metabolism shapens what you got to fortify what you've got to do.

I've been on my "Diet of One" for a week now and have lost 4 pounds. I'm pleased.
I had to stop in the middle of what I was doing and leave everything half done in order to have time to walk, but I did. I walked 2.25 miles and when I got home, the unfinished items were still here waiting on me. I felt better having walked though.

Sometimes this is the hardest part. I was a single mom for 11 years before I got married, and everything surrounding the kids & home ALWAYS came first. It has been really hard to train myself to make time for me.

I have fallen off the wagon somewhat for this week... last week I ate really well, worked out or did yoga 4 days, and this week, I haven't worked out and have eaten like crap I'm getting back on it today & hitting the gym after work! (I will say that even though my eating has been bad this week, I haven't been *overeating*. Although, I did eat that whole plate of enchiladas last night )

OK, I'm stuck this week. I'm still about what I was on Monday, despite 3 Zumba classes where I just about wiped out because the floor was wet from me sweating so much, and eating only "approved amounts and types of food" Grrr....

cael - your last post reminds me of me. I found that if I push myself too hard one day by walking 2 extra times around the Mall, I start to dread walking. Then I start to slack off. So now I'll walk a distance that will help me lose weight without making me dread walking. I try to keep it a doable and likable level.
swamp - you really aren't stuck. Your body is probably converting fat into muscle. A pound of muscle weighs more than fat, but muscle will help you burn calories and it takes up less room than fat. Enjoy your dancing. You're on the right track. Just don't overdo it to the point that you start to not like the dancing.

A pound of muscle weighs exactly the same amount as a pound of fat - 1 pound. An equal volume of muscle weighs more than fat.
Sorry -- pet peeve of mine.

Are you eating enough? If you're not eating enough, your body will burn muscle before it burns fat.

I am in too. I gained 10 lbs since July. I have to take it off.
Like daisylu I have only been getting to the Gym 1x per week for the last few weeks. I will make it 2x this week and hopefully back up to 3x week after that.
How do you track your calories on your phone, I have an android, is it an app I can get at the android market or are you on Weight Watchers?
When I was younger and watching my calories my calorie intake was around 1200 calories when dieting. I googled calories needed for Goal Weight and it said I should consume 1473/calories a day and it said I should be able to do this by May 20, 2011. Like some others, I have no thyroid so it is hard to lose weight. I will cut out the snacks and candy and make sure I exercises 3x per week. I'm a week behind you, I will have to start on the 31st.

See, one of my problems is I really like food :/ so it's hard sometimes, especially if I feel like I haven't been exercising enough. I'm not particularly overweight - I'm 5'3" and 140lbs, so yes I can stand to lose weight, but I don't necessarily need to. It's hard for me to drop weight - last time I lost a lot, it was a combination of starting college and walking to the train station and being very sick for 2 weeks during the winter, so I lost like 25lbs in about 6 months (that was 9 years ago). I was 120-125 for most of college, and after that it has just slowly crept back up. Although, during college I wasn't particularly active, I am much moreso now. Took a nap today instead of going to the gym but, I am snowboarding tomorrow and that burns a lot of calories, and doing yoga Sunday.

"A pound of muscle weighs more than fat, but muscle will help you burn calories and it takes up less room than fat." I didn't say a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat. LOL! But I will say: a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat. Why do people feel the need to Nit Pic and 95% of the time, it is a male? Sorry, pet peeve of mind.
