I'm more worried that the advice is unsafe rather than the method of the delivery of said advice.
Adding in sodium, and eliminating all food just sounds totally unsafe. And the justification for making it okay is that the guy asking has a "large frame" - it goes against currently accepted medical advice.
Who knows, maybe in 15 years we will find out Veteran is correct and we all didn't know what we are talking about - but right now, what he is saying is NOT backed by the vast majority of medical or weight loss professionals.
He can call me cranky all he wants. I'm not saying this because I'm bitter or just mean (which I am - but that has nothing to do with food.) I'm actually saying this because I don't want anyone doing anything stupid and ending up less healthy than they started.
(I am okay with his suggestion to rid yourself of processed white food.)

I agree with you Thyme, but I have a hard time with his delivery as well.
I am extremely sensitive to sodium and therefore would be very ill on his diet. I do not buy canned soups for this reason. They are extremely high in sodium. They might be low cal, but I just can't do all that sodium.
I am also ok with his other suggests of drink water, eliminate white processed foods, but I really disagree with the soup diet. I just think that he could have gone about things differently instead of going on the attack when people disagreed with him.

Soup and water diets don't work because as soon as you add food back into your diet, you'll gain exponentially. Plus, there is TONS of sodium in most broth, which will make you bloat and hold onto water weight. It isn't good for your body's cells, your heart, your lungs, your brain, or your waist.
The simple fact is that losing weight = More calories being expended than being taken in. It is basic math. There are ways to make it more tolerable than others.
Example: My calorie "budget" is 1400/day.Side note- Any less than 1200 is typically considered unsafe in the medical community. Anyhow, I can have 2 donuts and some OJ for breakfast and use up half of my daily calories and starve the rest of the day, or I can have oatmeal and fruit, or an egg white omelet and coffee, then also have a sensible lunch (typically a salad and hard boiled egg white, or leftovers from dinner), and a nice dinner. It usually also leaves room for a small 100 calorie snack at about 3 pm (usually some fruit). Either way, once I've used up my "budget" I need to stop eating.
No one diet will fit everyone. We all have different foods that our bodies do best on. As long as you're doing what is healthy, and what works for you (and let's face it, by the time you're in your 20's, you know what foods make you feel healthy and which ones make you feel sluggish and gain weight).
I hope that we can all stay supportive of one another's efforts.
Good luck guys!

Who said anything about canned soup and condoning high sodium? Isn't salt... WHITE?
Broth as opposed to cream-based. Rinsed chicken and water simmered for a day makes a great BROTH. Add in any veggies you want. Did you know you can give broth a sodium-like taste just by dissolving celery leaves in it? It takes about four times in herbs to make up for what sodium adds in taste to our foods.

Veteran- it is still a starvation diet that will lead to weight gain once you add real food back in.

I went back and read Veteran's post. I thought he said "saturate your system with sodium" - but he did say "saturate the sodium in your system" - which I'm not really sure what that means - I guess drink so much water you flush the sodium?
So, I still completely disagree with the advice of a liquid diet - I will back off on saying his advice said to load up on sodium.

Sounds like you're doing a great job with eating healthy and exercising! Keep it up, after about 4-6 weeks, you'll notice a HUGE difference in the way you look and feel!

Sigh, gained 3 lbs over the weekend. This morning I have lost one of those pounds. It's not unusual for me to bounce around. I really should weigh just once a week, but I can't resist.
Since Monday, I have walked 3 miles. I also walked the steps up 3 flights to my Mother's apartment at a retirement home rather than take the elevator.
I'm still sticking to my "Diet of One." Even though I gained a little back over the weekend, I'm still feeling pretty good. At least the scale is going in the right direction - overall.

Well, I currently lost 10 lbs in 10 days and I didn't even go to the gym. I am currently "rubber band shut" due to a dental surgery. Anyone want to join me???

It's snowy, blowy and cold today. Lots of places are shut down. A GREAT DAY to put some SOUP on in your slow cooker and do some Wii Just Dance 2 with friends. HAVE to move your feet with the beat, not just the controller to make score.
How to make soup for stupes... rinse some chicken (get rid of that goopy stuff on it), put it in a pot. Add water. Add veggies... leaves and all. Add herbs because they're almost like veggies. Be sure to MOVE AROUND A LOT while you do this, instead of posting on a message board that you thought somebody advised you to down a salt-shaker to lose weight or only drink liquids. Stay away from things predominantly-- WHITE to reduce sugars, starches and sodium. Do more MOVEMENT. Drink MORE water, brothy foods... flush, flush flush. There is no hope of sustained weight loss until you break loose what is stuck in your caboose from sitting too much.
Swamp... Zumba... nice! Belgian study conducted for 25+ years suggests having a BEER rather than a fruit drink after a vigorous work-out is healthier for you. Not a bunch of beers, just good nutrient replenishment and refreshment. Hoo-da thunk-it.

I know that in theory but I was really hoping to see at least a pound off in a week. But I am not giving up Have you tried adding in some weights and cardio mixed together? I've been doing 30 minutes of cardio most days, and every other day I'm doing 20-30 minutes of strength training. We bought one of those "total gym" bars that hook over your door for about $20 and that thing is great! You can use it for pulls -ups (which I can't even do one, but I'm working on it!), sit-ups, and push ups. It really helps your form. I haven't lost much weight, but I'm feeling stronger and more confident. I can tell my body is changing, even if my pants size isn't reflecting it! This thread is nice because when you're feeling down about your progress on the scale, you can come and get some encouragement!

Veteran- just because people are on a weight loss thread doesn't mean we are all lazy and don't move. I think a lot of use are in the healthy weight range, we just have a few to lose. Taking 10 or 15 minutes a day to check a message board and post is a nice break from my busy life. I know you're trying to be helpful, but it feels like you're lecturing us instead of encouraging us. Are you trying to lose weight too?

LOL. Zumba is an exercise dance class, kinda part salsa dancing, part jazzercise, part toning class.

I had a great work-out last night. I'm also able to keep my eating under control. I added in all the calories I stress-ate on Monday night, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It helped (overall) that I under-ate during the day on Monday - but I have a feeling that really contributed to the stress eating. By dinner I was so famished. I usually don't make that kind of error - but things went quite wrong on Monday. I live to fight another day.
This morning my daughter asked if Bacon was good for you. My answer was "No, but we don't eat much of it - so let's enjoy it!" Tonight we are having bacon & brussel sprouts, pork chops and stuffing. Yum!

I always hated, hated, hated brussel sprouts. My Mom use to steam them and put vinegar on them - blech!
So, yes, I fry up a piece of bacon, I cut the brussel sprouts in half, and then I fry them in the bacon grease. I remove the bacon before I put in the sprouts. When the sprouts are all ready to go, I squeeze a little lemon juice on them, and sprinkle the bacon back on-top. I only use a piece or two of bacon, and we only do this once a month.
I also have a spice mix that I put on brussel sprouts and then I grill them or roast them. As it turns out, we all love brussel sprouts now - and no one could be more surprised than my husband and I. We marvel at it every time we eat them.

I tried shredding them and cooking with garlic (which I love). I thought garlic made everything taste good. Turns out I was wrong.

I love garlic also - but I think it amplifies the cabbagy-bitterness that brussel sprouts have.

Read more: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=healthyliving&action=display&thread=2079&page=4#ixzz1CtrbKb63FRY THEM in bacon grease? If you followed your mother's recipe (the one that allowed YOU to live to adulthood), the stats would look like what you see below. KIDS don't move around as much as we used to, so your frying in bacon grease is ensuring big time heart and blood issues for your kids. Nutritional Information Per Serving (1/8 of recipe): 219.3 calories; 71% calories from fat; 17.6g total fat; 35.8mg cholesterol; 483.5mg sodium; 509.8mg potassium; 12.1g carbohydrates; 4.5g fiber; 3.2g sugar; 7.5g net carbs; 6.3g protein. If you sauteed them in EVOO and sprinkled turkey-bacon bits on them, you'd have a similar taste without the artery-hardening gut-creating heart-arresting fat you're disguising as flavor now. Try adding Craisins and unsalted peanuts to change the flavor without adding more fat. Mom's apple cider vinegar addage was the healthiest thing she did for you!

And my grandmother fried everything in bacon grease and lived to be 88.

Gee - who knew bacon wasn't good for you? And gee - if I followed my mother's recipe, we wouldn't eat them at all. Mom's apple cider wasn't the healthiest thing she did for me, because I hated them so much, the nights she made them I would not eat them and not have any vegetables for dinner that night at all - just meat and potatoes. I really think 1/4 of 1 strip of bacon 1 time per month, or less will not be the thing that pushes my otherwise healthy diet into a heart attack waiting to happen. I don't know where you got your nutritional information but here is something that says that 1 slice of bacon has 3 grams of fat in it. That means .75 grams of fat per person per month. nutritiondata.self.com/facts/pork-products/7676/2You also have no idea how active my kids are.
